So wow sucks now(I don't like the direction the devs took, bugs me that I STILL can't raid months into the expansion due to a lack of guild effort) and I'm looking for a new mmo. Are any of the other mmos that are currently out any good or should I wait and see how the new star wars one(whatever it's called) goes?

Wait...

Is this more of a gripe with "Guild effort" than the actual game?
I know I'd go mad if I couldn't get a raid in, what are you guys currently tackling?

Sidenote: Personal opinion makes me wonder how lazy that guild is, all you need is cata blues from HC's to start raiding.

For a completely different MMO experience try urban dead: http://www.urbandead.com/ Its a very low tech text based game, set in the zombie apocalypse, you can play it as either a human survivor and a zombie, and run around the city. You have a limited amount of actions you can do, capped at 50, and you get 1 extra action every half hour, so it avoids the whole addiction aspect of MMOs. I like it, although some people might find it boring.

At the moment the zombies have ransacked three quarters of the city, I have no clue how they did it (about 2 weeks ago the game was 39% zombies, 61% survivors, now its 51% zombies, they're kicking ass) It can be slow to start it, but once you gain a few levels performing actions becomes a lot easier, you can also join one of the many clans, and try to work in teams.

Right now it's hard for me to give much in the way of MMORPG suggestions. To be honest WoW knocked out most of the competition/serious development, and pretty much every project that saw eventual launch has wound up lacking. Typically the problem comes down to a lack of content and serious endgame, you go into a game like "DC Universe Online" with even moderate MMORPG experience and you'll have seen pretty much everything it has within your first free month, the "raiding" and endgame content is pretty weak, and the PVP while interesting gets old fast and has some of the worst game balance issues in history IMO whther it's regular or legends PVP.

I'm pretty much waiting for "Old Republic Online" in hopes that it's budget will translate into a decent game.

Right now the closest thing I can give to a recommendation would probably be "Rift" which I'm playing a little right now, it's okay, but seems lacking to me. I have no idea if I'll wind up buying time when my free month is over with. It's a very average game, with an above average character system, doesn't either impress or repel to any great extent. Of course it has a better than average chance of winding up like DCUO in the end.

Don't waste money looking for a WoW-replacer like I have unless you have it to burn, I've been deeling unusually stupid recently. Your not going to find anything that good out there, and if your burned out, you should just wait for Old Republic. No guarantees with Old Republic either, but it's being developed on a level where it has a chance of being another great MMORPG.

I've been spending my money on steam games. Looks like Darkspore might be a game that can hold me over until the release of the old republic. It's not an MMO persay but it has online pvp and coop. It's decent fun.

Ill have to agree with you about the direction the devs are taking. instead of working on a "looking for guild" tool they should have been working on a "looking for raid" tool.

Runescape.

Hahahahano. I was kidding, though that game stole many hours of my life and many 5$ installemnts each month from my parents.

I've never really played any other MMO's, so I can't really say much about it, unfortunately.

Anyway, there's not much out there right now. I'd tentatively recommend Requiem: Memento Mori but the amount of bugs and lag problems make it difficult for me to give it a "YOU MUST PLAY THIS NOW!" stamp. Still worth a look as it's a bit different in style from other MMORPGs.
Ahhh. It feels like such a close-knit community when we can make sly personal jabs.

Anyway, my suggestion is for Vindictus. It's a free-to-play MMO, but you'll have to get used to the fact that a lot of them are now. It has more action than the standard RPG, and I'm happy to say that a level 40 character, fighting the first big boss, with an idiot at the keyboard, will lose horribly. It's very much about skill. Unfortunately, like many MMOs, there's a lot of repetition.

I agree with the people above that EVE Online is very, very different, and worth a try. It may be your thing, but there is a lot of waiting in it while you're stuck on autopilot. At least it comes with an ingame web browser (and I think an IRC client)

Yeah, I was pretty surprised too. Thankfully, this person picked up the slack.

I would say you should check out Anarchy Online. I am pretty sure that its still alive and kicking since I have been getting emails about it. The main game is free. The expansions cost money then start with the monthly/recurring cost like WoW. The anniversary is going to be in the next couple of months and they usually send out free trial keys. If you do end up checking out AO then I would also suggest going to http://www.gridstream.org/ its a fan run shout-cast that is pretty much the radio station of AO. They hold contests that you can win credits off of and thats how I made my first 10mil in game.
