Yeah I started up again and even roped my girlfriend into it, turns out she loves it! WoW's a very odd creature, because when it's fun it's really fun but when it's boring it's mind numbingly boring. There are those moments when the tank dies and the squishy ranged DPS scatter and as the only melee player you have to decide whether or not you can be a temp tank... only to find out you can't and get everyone killed! Then you just blame the healer and everyone laughs it off!

Nope, not really into MMO's and from what I remember WoW was pretty boring with alot of "kill X amount of X". Not to mention it may be free but only up to level 20. I might give it anouther shot at some point if I run out of things to play.

Yea, OP - even if it is a Hypothetical Question, 90% of the Escapist thinks it is 'cool' to hate on popular games. So basically every single one who posts in this thread will say something along the lines of 'no cuz it suckz i an't no [insert racial hatred here]'.

Oh, minus the hatred part I have been correct so far :p
... What?

I don't really think hipster gamers are setting their sites on WOW. I've been told it's the most feature rich MMO, but a huge portion of society at large and gamers just don't like MMO's.

It's actually not that deep, most people who hate WOW hate it because their friends play it and it's worse than having a girlfriend because it has literally changed some of my friends into people I no longer wanted to be friends with.

When a game changes a friend more than pussy it's understandable why people who don't play it or don't like MMO's hate it.

I guess, my friends have been on my ass for YEARS to play it full time but I never could justify the cost...just don't like MMOs.

Nope. I tried WoW out with the free week trial and didn't care for it. I tried because all my friends were playing it and I just couldn't get into it. I wish I could as they played it for like 2 years while I was playing other stuff. The cost isn't really the issue for me.
The leveling isn't the fun part. It gets fun after level 60.

Yep. Got one as soon as I heard. So far, it's pretty meh. Thinking about uninstalling it. I don't know, I like my games to feel actiony and intense. For me, WoW is about as intense as making a spreadsheet. Hell the only reason I keep Champions Online on my computer is so I can design characters and have a 360 degree view for art purposes.

No, most other games are fun. WoW really was endless repetition and electronically-induced OCD. Labor. I'm open to arguments that Cataclysm improved things.

I was addicted for years. I played from release till a while after cata, with the occasional 3-4 month break.
But WoW always had a serious flaw. The other players. The hate and bile spewing from so many people on there really kills the game.
If you can find nice people to play with then I'd recommend it but otherwise it's a lonely repetitive existence.

That being said, the itch to play is still there and it'll eventually win one day.

i actually did play it for free, on my uncles account. I played it too much, and didn't ever play any other game. I realize now that i would have enjoyed playing a variety of other genres rather than just WoW.

That's a lot of work to get to the fun. I had just came off a game that used the same system but 1) wasn't the overused fantasy setting 2)Had an item database that was probably 100x larger than WoW 3) Had a level cap of 200+ and more. WoW was nothing I hadn't seen before. It was just a new one. I later bought City of Heroes and got 30 days free with it. My 30 days was a blast and I quickly hopped on board with it playing it for about a 6 months. Then I took a 3 month break. Then one of my friends who was playing WoW got CoH and me and him played for about 6 months. Then we got Guild Wars and that is where we have been since. Well, actually we went back to CoH a couple times. Now I am still on Guild Wars, he is sporadic in his gaming. My other friends and I play on PS3 together but the guy who played CoH with me has a Wii and I don't so mostly we play PC games together like Diablo 2 and Rise of Nations and stuff.

I have already played tons of games with WoW's system and I think it is a dated system that is easily prone to stale gameplay. Starting over in another game with that same system really makes you see the tedium in it. That is why I think WoW clones tend to fail and everyone usually just reverts back to WoW for the most part. It is the one where their progress is.

Nope. I gave up my WoW days a long time ago, and now is not the time to get back in.
For truth!

It's not worth getting back in. I didn't quit due to monetary costs so much as social and health costs that come from maintaining a competitive character.

Not worth it to put that much time into a game for other people's sake. If I was doing it out of enjoyment maybe but I was doing it to be able to play with friends, not due to enjoying it.

If it went proper f2p I'd probably play it a bit again, but I'd probably burn out pretty quick, seeing as I played it a lot, and wasn't really fond of the direction the game went in. My favourite "era" was the TBC expansion. All my characters that went through Northrend it felt a chore to level between 70 and 80, didn't really enjoy it as much.

I played in the cata beta, was fun, but by the end of the beta I didn't feel as if there was enough stuff left to justify subscribing again.

In the MMO department I've recently been playing Global Agenda and just started on Forsaken Worlds. FW does borrow a fair bit from WoW, from the amount I played, but I liked WoW, so it's going OK for me so far lol.

Pirates of the Burning sea (PotBS) is a very good game if you have an interest in ship combat in the 18th century. Yeah, pretty niche but it's good fun with great endgame PVP called Port Battles. It's free-2-play, but you won't get the best out of the game unless you pay. You can pay for only one month and that gives you all the neccessary benefits like full economy slots and ship storage and stuff, so tht's pretty cool. Simply a one time payment of $10.

((Wrong bloody forum...))

Nope. I bought an account back in TBC, Got up to level 80, bought Lich King expansion, got to level 85..... then got bored because i didn't like the end-game content.

So i leveled another character to level 85... then got bored again...

only good thing i liked about the end were battlegrounds, but those aren't really "End game" as you get them at level 10 -__-

I mostly enjoyed the whole traveling, exploring, leveling part, the end game content though, just bored me greatly.

so, i don't think i shall play again.

repetition? you're doing it wrong. first 20 levels with my human paladin i:
-played through an almost full length campaign involving rescuing four warriors from Blackrock Orcs, retrieving the equipment of a former hero, helped them demolish an Orc outpost and killed: two low-ranking(but powerful) Orc warlords and a motherfucking dragon.
-in a separate country, i helped locate a sniper, assassinated an enemy leader, spied on a dangerous cult, observed that cult returning and i havent finished it yet.
-did two completely different dungeon questlines
and i havent even started Burning Crusade. 'repetition' is only if you grind, but you get more XP from quests and dungeons/raids.

And back when I played, 90% of the quests were drop quests that took an hour, or just grinding where you kept count.
