In Diablo 2, on Battle.net with strangers (Battle.net kicks Steam's ass ) fighting Diablo. I was hardly involved due to my being s level 18 or so, but they all worked so brilliantly. I was doing my bit, smacking him with my socketed Crystal Sword, when suddenly WHOOSH! That big fire circle thing. YOU ARE DEAD. Death takes it's toll of 10,000 gold.
I still fail to understand why death needs money anyway. I doubt it's got a family to support and it's not like ethereal anthropomorphic manifestations of human insecurity have taxes or bills to pay.
First PvP kill in Ultima Online, damn that felt good to have someone whining about drylooting their character over ICQ
'That' twist in Baldur's Gate, I genuinely had no idea it was coming up.
The first time I played Operation Flashpoint. I thought it was as realistic as games get and was amazed by the fact I could get into a jeep AND BE DRIVEN AROUND, it was a real watershed moment.
Condemned : Criminal Origins, in the farmhouse when you find the message painted in glow in the dark paint and have to follow it, unarmed. I thought that was really well done.
Mine moment is from Knights of the Old Republic, so for those who haven't completed it yet(it's been years, people...get a move on!) I've marked it as a spoiler.
When you learn that the player character is Revan.
That's probably the first time something was revealed in a game that I wasn't expecting, I actually said "No way!" to my Xbox, lol.
Off the top of my head would have to be the first cut-scene i saw in WoW when i first run Magisters Terrace.
Other than that, it isn't really in gaming, but when i look back at screenshots from FFVII and realised how much the graphics have moved on, seriously they were like a few pixels per body
* So much of Bioshock - the whole atmosphere and graphics. The awesome soundtrack, the scary moments where I'd turn around and be scared out of my skin. I think it's the title that best displays games as art. It created a believable world and THEN made it scary. If I had to pick a few choice moments, they would be when you surface in the burning oil, the amazing sequence where you fight the magician.... but the one thing that sticks in my mind is watching the plane hit the tunnel, subsequently flooding it in such a realistic way that I actually felt my heart race. Some truly amazing moments...
* Coming out of the tunnel in Oblivion and being awestruck by the sights.
* Realizing how big Morrowind was and that I'd only scratched the surface of such a complex world in over 100 hours of gameplay.
* Entering the world of Fable full stop.
* Running from the Berzerker in the museum in Gears of War.
* Using Knights of the Round to execute Sephiroth in FF7. Leaving the main city in FF7 and realising the enormity of the world.
* My first major battle in Rome Total War.
* Defeating Ragnaros first on server back in the grind old days. I hated the game, but enjoyed the team work and sense of reward.
The first time I played Command and Conquer: Red Alert and saw the little pixelated civilians getting lit on fire and running around flailing their arms and then dropping onto the ground and rolling around. Up until that point, my gaming experience was essentially limited to the Apogee sidescrollers such as Duke Nukem, Monster Bash, and Bio Menace. When I saw the sick sense of humor games could have I was filled with amazement and evil glee.
The first time I played Quake 2, heard the thundering soundtrack and saw the bad guys running around in beautifully-animated, true 3d. Up until that point the most graphically advanced shooter I had played was Wolfenstein, and for those of you that weren't gamers back then... Q2 was easily the biggest technical step-up from previous games that had ever been seen before. It was a really exciting thing to see.
The showdown with GlaDOS in Portal was another, where I was just amazed by the cleverness of her character and the theme of the fight in general.
The plot twist in Knights of the Old Republic that everybody who's played the game knows about. Definitely a high water mark in game storytelling that has yet to be exceeded.

but it was JUST before it was revealed.. I got it, just as Malak was describing what a fool you were, and I was like "No way!!" then it happened and Iw as like WOAH!

My first kill wasn't server first, but it was guild first.. That battle was INTENSE, I had only read the strategies and whatnot so I wouldn't be a useless lump (I probably still was), but there is no strategy guide that can give you the impression of just how big Ragnaros is. He's ginormous. The Battle is intense, and the Pretext is Wonderful. Rag getting pissed at Executus for waking him up then killing him? Hell ya, he deserved it.
It would be the first time i played Crysis when you are sky diving towards the island that was a screen shot type moment...then my video card blew up.
It's kind of funny, people talk about Crysis now, like my friends talked about Halo when it first came out. When I got it (months after they did) they said to me "Oh man, it looks so awesome.. as soon as you get onto the planet surface, look at the grass, it'll blow your mind"
Final Fantasy VII was the first proper RPG i played and so when i got out of midgar and realised there was this ginormous world map i was like oh my god this game is HUUUUUGE
Sajuuk is a giant ancient spaceship 4 times as long as your largest battlecruiser. It's main gun can kill any ship in the game in one shot and it has the longest range in the game. The entire vessel is covered in point defence lasers that can shred smaller ships in seconds. Basically for the last level the developers gave you a free pass to exact your revenge on a defenseless enemy armada.
The first big WOW moment I can remember in a game is when I was playing Doom (the first one), and I got the BFG and got to kill everything in the room with one shot. I darn near killed myself too until I figured out not to stand too close to any targets.
Some other ones are:
Using a light saber in 3-D in Dark Forces II Jedi Knight. So fun!
Driving a vehicle while shooting bad guys in Battlefield 1942
Blowing up the Death Star in X Wing (it looked really cool for the day and it was really tough to do for me).

Aw, man- using that lightsaber for the first time in Jedi Knight was absolutely fantastic... That was the very first game I ever owned that even had lightsabers in it, and seeing myself (okay, Kyle Katarn) swinging it around and dismembering foes (bloodlessly) brings back some very fond memories
And I remember that Death Star bit of X-Wing! As I recall, I never blew up the thing because my craft would crash into side of that gigantic space station or the turrets would blow me to pieces
