If you must waste your life doing so as I have play Guild Wars because it has no monthly fees.

Well, Guild Wars has no monthly fees, and it's far more plot-driven than most MMOs out there. WoW, on the other hand, has a load of content and a far busier online populace.

I play Guild Wars and love it. The graphics are amazing, the storyline brilliant and the level 20 level cap (making the game about player skill not hours spent grinding) makes it worthwhile in my opinion. Oh and no subscription fees. And a maturer class of people.

Guild Wars, because I didn't have to play for a year to get to the max level.

You see Im a fairly busy man with many places to go and see (one reason why this post is at 3:00) so I prefer my games to give me at least some gratification for a few weeks of gameplay, and not require me to loose all social skills in the process.

Guild Wars does both of these because it is more gameplay and less leveling driven then WOW, this allows me to have just as much, or even more, fun without having to degrade myself completely. This coupled with the fact that I don't have to shell out several bucks a month to play is a sealed deal.

Unfortunately my friends who are into this sort of thing don't agree with me, so Im currently not playing for lack of REAL friends.

I vote for Guild Wars as well (though I haven't played WOW yet). My main reason is the skill based combat system, it's more satisfying coming up with a line of skills that can help a team (or just soloing) to achieve something rather than having the biggest dildo in your hand to whack down enemies.

Guild Wars. Started playing 38 months ago, played about 2,2k hours during that time.

And during THAT time, I tried playing WoW 5 times, and I don't think there would be a total of 10 hours. I think I've spent more time downloading patches for the game than playing it.

If you want a traditional MMO, I'd say Ragnarok Online or City of Heroes - two games I don't regret spending cash on official servers.

Because I do regret my $65 put in Warhammer, at least for now, till they fix the game a bit.

It depends how long you are looking to play for.
I got GW when it was relatively new, played through all the expansions and had a great deal of fun. The problem i find though is lack of endgame content. PvP is mediocre, and with they've nerfed most of the "dungeons" so they are hard to solo. I'll admit I didn't play much of the latest one so maybe there is more to do.
I just got bored of it, although the lack of a monthly fee was great.
I prefer WoW now though, there's just so much more to do.
Depends on the person really, if you like MMO's you should enjoy either game, but i suggest WoW.

Guild wars all the way.
You've got a ton of build options, fun classes, diferent kinds of pvp and pve, good achievements and you don't need to spend months of your live (paying) just to know how the game works.

Plus, if you really are going to play GW I recommend this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.84568

Are they? I don't think so. I don't think that anyone can say "that's a noob character" in that game. I have a WaMo... I was asked to marry someone because of my mighty hammering... weird people.

But know this: most of the people in that game that called other noobs, are mainly assess that love the cookie-cutter builds and don't give a damn about innovation.
I was doing a mission with a random group and we had a smiter monk. One guy just started calling him noob, and that smiter monks sucked, etc. So he left. Some of us were fucked up by that and left too. I ended up with that smiter again in the party and I have to say, he was great, made me want to make a monk too. Its all about play style and finding yours.

That depends on personal taste.

WoW - Uncountable amounts of time will be spent grinding to get stuff and therefore reducing your social life to 0.

Guild Wars - As mentioned before Guild Wars has a lower cap level so the issue with grinding for hours doesn't really occur. But, the longevity of Guild Wars is questionable since getting to level 20 or whatever is so p**s easy anyone can do it, on the other hand this is good since PvP is apperantly a major feature in the game, but (again) since the level cap is only about 20 the people who have a social life of 0 will STILL be the better players in this game. But then you go on how you've lost your virginity and they haven't...

I would like to disagree with that last point. Even someone that has played for hours on end may not have the same tactics as someone who is not so game obsessed. The game is all about strategy and everyones' is different.

Yes, everyone IS differen't but on Counter-Strike: Source you don't see noobs killing the pro's, because of tactics that the pro's have evolved over a seriously long amount of time and it's the same with every game. With an exeption of SSBB.

All Counter Strike involves tactics wise is a fast and steady mouse hand to turn and shoot. Also knowing mas helps. Guild Wars is more a bout what abilities you take into a fight, how you use them and when you use them. That and being able to run your party properly.
