Wow, this has to be one of the worst advertisements ever. (WoW related)

I know gamers are one of the most neurotic and insecure populations of hobbyists in the world, and I'm not saying there aren't fair reasons for that, but getting our collective panties in a knot over a clearly farcical commercial has to take the cake.
The cake is a lie. ( sorry couldn't help it)

OT: i liked the commercial . And i think you got the message wrong . It's saying that wow is a great game , better than diamonds and more fullfilling than a relationship .

I like the weird Skittles commericals. Sure they don't really have anything to do with the candy, but they're memoriable. And the web-focused ones? Really clever.
The Skittle commercials are alright, but mostly because they're so surreal and impossible that you don't attach any reality to the commercial, they're more cartoon than real.

This?

This could totally happen, and we all know it. It probably has happened before, and I pity the person it happened to.

But if you are trying to sell a video game, you don't imply that your game is the thing at the center of something like this.

Uhh...no, I'm saying I don't care that she's on 'Parks and Recreation'?

Having fun on your high horse up there? How's the weather? Or are you above the clouds?

Hey! What's up with his outfit? Is he a pirate?

Pirate? no, It's his official outfit as the fifth horseman of the apocalypse: Conquest wears White robes and has a crown, War wears Red and has a sword, Famine wears Black rags and has scales, Death wears a White shroud and a scythe, and Chuck Norris wears Denim and has a ginger beard.

Here's a better view of the "Denim Destroyer's" outfit:

The uzis fire feelings of shame and inadaquacy.

The funny thing is that I was actually considering trying out WoW free to play, because I lack money currently, and wished a distraction.

.....then I saw this commercial and all considerations vanished.

i think your missing the point.

the character that Aubrey Plaza plays on Parks and Recreation is famous for that ''meh'' attitude. its not like they found some unknown and just said '' advertise this game, but act like you dont give a shit''
....Uhhh...

I don't care?

She's still acting like a *****?

A 'Meh' attitude would be fine. This is "I'm a freaking ***** who dumped my boyfriend because he gave me a gift that I love. Possibly because he wanted to share his enjoyment with me."
hmmm forgive me, i thought you did care, and thus created a post because of how much you cared.

i see now you are just butthurt, possibly because girls dont talk to you, more likely because you are having WoW withdrawals. even MORE likely, both :)
I would say your last two lines, are a bit too far.

On to the topic: They could have easily turned it into a *meh girl gets games, instead of DIAMONDS. Girl plays game with guy, both on new characters (wanting to keep together on it). She sees a couple of new things from WoW, gets completely into it, insert "One week later" panel, and she is ruling the game, instructing him on it, like a baus. From "F**KING DIAMONDS" to "OMG YES I AM A GOD" within one commercial.* easy peasy.

Its a way to advertise how WoW has changed, the new race, etc, as well as showing that even someone who was a bit bitchy and meh before, finds a crapload of enjoyment from a supposedly "Geeky" game.

So this girl, first is bitchy because her boyfriend won't give her freaking DIAMONDS (In this economy? Seriously?), and then says 'I'll play the game anyway'. Then she casually mentions how her boyfriend says she loves it more than him, she agrees, so she dumps him.

The worst part? The boyfriend probably got it for her because it was something he enjoyed...So he wanted to share his enjoyment with her. She throws it in his face by saying "I WANTED DIAMONDS", and then takes it and plays the game anyway.

Then when she finds she *loves* the game, she doesn't thank her boyfriend for showing it/giving it to her, she tells him to fuck off because she enjoys her game more than being with him.

How....is this supposed to make me want to try WoW again? Its just implying that people who play WoW are complete pricks. (Not saying they are, simply saying that this is what the commercial implies.)

P.S. If I knew how to embed, I would be doing that now. >_<
I just saw this commercial and I though the same thing. Perhaps they're trying to be ironic but missed the lesson on irony.

The same reason those Skittles commercials make me want to go get Skittles. What does a kid being forced to sit there and "tree" out Skittles have to do with Skittles? Absolutely nothing but I think it's funny so I'll consider it.

If for some reason you haven't seen it, the commercial I'm referring to is this one:

No THIS is the worst Skittles Commerical of all time[footnote]I know it's not real, but it convinced quite a few people before the disclaimers were put up[/footnote]:

I'm sorry but this is so full of WIN that i need a moment to regain my composure.

...

+2 internets for you my friend.

OT: I just see it as another piece of mindless garbage that really doesn't deserve any deeper thought. The Chuck norris commercial was better.

Uh... huh.

Exactly how insecure does a person need to be in order to get their hackles up over that ad?

So yes, WoW supports murdering children, I don't think I can support that.
Wait, what? Chuck Norris uses World of Warcraft profits to run an anti-vaccination campaign in Denmark?!? I see from your profile you are actually Danish so I am going to infer that something got lost in translation and you don't actually mean this guy[/quote]

"It" refers to WoW, Chuck Norris promotes superstition which has left thousands of children dead around the world, in addition to creationism. Associating your product with that man associates you with his views.

The advert in question. He doesn't promote his views but Blizzard is giving him attention and indirectly endorsing the man by his presentation here.

Someone has been reading too much into commercials.

Its just a simple advertisement. I don't think Blizzard is trying to make a statement about women's needs in today's economy, but I could be wrong.

I could very well be wrong.

Seems on par with their other ads.

They go for humour instead of actually selling the game. Much like with Mr.T and Chuck Norris. I certainly don't remember all their prior ads, but I'm happy to see at least one of them star a female for a change.

So the joke is that WoW splits up relationships...hell, at least they're being honest about it.

Maybe I just don't get the reference (haven't seen or read Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), but my reaction was a resounding "meh." Nothing to get worked up about one way or another.
