What happened to Digimon is that it was basically too arty to make it among mainstream audiences. I'm pretty sure its fate was sealed after the "Waiting for Godot-mon" episode came out.

I remembered loving this show and putting up with some SERIOUS criticism from Pokemon wankers who said it was just another pokemon clone.

Fuck that noise. This show was NOTHING like Pokemon, its only similarity was that it had monsters owned by kids and the title ended with a Mon. It was a completely new series with this interesting idea of a world of cyberspace. It never got so ridiculously over-powered as Dragon Ball Z, had a host of interesting, fun, occasionally annoying but NEVER unlikeable characters, some appropriately awesome bad guys, good action, and the weirdest and most bizarrely beautiful backgrounds and images I've ever seen in a cartoon. Even when it got completely revamped and transformed in the third season and they ended up fighting a giant blob it was still well-drawn and well written enough to be awesome.

And then the fourth season showed up and it became Beast Wars...:p Never expected that to happen. What was even supposed to go on in the fourth season? Didn't they turn into digiomon or some stupidness? I've only seen about one episode myself.

That show was THE Shit. I'm just thinking about all the awesomeness that it was, now. Villains like Leomon and Devimon, and Miyotismon, and Puppetmon! All awesome! Characters with their own personalities like Izzy and Tai, and Matt, and TK, and Joe, and Mimi!! How many times have you seen someone named Mimi who has NOT been annoying? And even though the Digimon Mimi was...also annoying, she wasn't THAT annoying!

Hell, the only problem I have had with that show was Eddiemon or whatever the hell that monkey digimon that sounded like Elvis was. Best show ever. Even season 2 kicked ass. Hell, even season THREE was pretty cool.

And to all you douche bags who think Pokemon was better than this...You know that one episode where Pikachu evolved into a giant robotic dinosau-- OH WAIT YOU CAN'T BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!

I'd take Genai over Master Roshi or Professor Oak any day.
Each has their own target audience and are their own things. Yeah so what if Digimon and Pokémon have similar themes, kids running around with a monster partner. They are totally different shows. They each have their own good aspects, as wellas bad ones. I hate it, as well, when people can't stand but to put them together. Oh well, people will be people, you know?

The ending, or at least the last few minutes of season 1 goes a little like this:

apocalymon destroys their crests so they cant digivolve but then they go all emo and realise that all they need is the love in their hearts or some shit and they all digivolve right up to their top forms at the time, i think a couple might go even further than ever before in the series. They proceed to kick the shit out of apocalymon who dies but releases his final attack - total annihilation - which would destroy both the real and digital worlds. The kids digivices suddenly go crazy and create some kind of containment cube that stops it - which is why there had to be 8 digidestined - 8 points to a cube. After all that nonsense is done with they realise they have to go back to the real world and never see their digital friends again. Until season two.

If that sounded a little facetious I just realised that this is the reason I struggle to converse with attractive women. They generally don't come in geek flavour.
It had it's moments. I personally LOVED the first three seasons. The first two were good adventures, different than what Pokemon, or DBZ, or even current animes have to offer. And I liked it. I also enjoy analyzing animes like this, that I watched back in the day. My brother and I can go into hour long, even day long conversations about certain aspects of what we're watching currently. I can remember the time when we were discussing how Etemon's network spanned all of Server, and how it could also be hacked and such. And how the Ultimate digivolutions worked and such. I love having these conversations with people, sometimes it's even hard for ME to find them with people, so don't worry, it's a shared feeling. Maybe the opposite whenit comes to sexes, but still the same feeling...

My favourite digimon was either agumon or gabumon
On topic the reason why I think it ended although it did end amazingly is because it couldn't compete with pokemon for some strange reason.

I had my fun with the digimon series when I was younger, enough fun to keep my watching all episodes that is.

But yeah, every story needs to have an ending ( unlike pokmon where they just make up a new tournement and draw some new pokemon by walking in a zoo, Pokemon based on real animals ? Who would have quessed. )

heh...I'm aware how silly this sounds, but I always liked Digimon better because it was a tad more...."adult" i.e. the Digimon regularly died/were eaten/absorbed....good time...

I liked it until... I'm not sure what season it was, but when they brought in the 3rd set of Digimon. After Veemon and that lot.
But we got Rumble Arena 2 from it, so it will always have a portion of awesome.

I agree, like I said, Digimon wasa more morbid Pokémon. Sure you can't compare the two, but where PKMN shows more kid-friendly aspects, like friendship and happy situations, Digimon showed Friendship and macabre. It was more real, moer down to earth, while IMO Pokemon was just easier to handle. The game was easier to play, so more people stuck with it than they did Digimon, but Digimon was still fun and cool!

It finished. Epicly. Then got resurrected with some crappy new version a few years later.
Digimon was awesome.
This.
I loved the first season, so much more brutal than pokemon, in one those two guys beat the crap out of each other, when if the boxing catus was annoying. The ending was excellent.
The second was complete balls and had nothing to do with the first one. I never watched it. Due to this balls up they did no more with it.

Edit: By first season I mean the original cast, I dont actaully know if they were split into seasons.

I was too busy watching Pokemon in the first season when it was good (but I was 6-7 years old at the time). Same with many other people, so it just stopped like a lot of things.

God, I loved Digimon when I was little...

You can still find all the episodes on Youtube, though. [Unconvincingly]: Not that I've watched them all...

Digimon were the champions, they changed into digital monsters to save the digital world.

I agree man, there was another show i can't remember, but it was about some kids in a hot air baloon who were always getting attacked by the "evil Miss Moore, Who has evil plans in store... as the opening credits announced in song.

Anyone remember that show?
I don't know, but for some reason I was reminded of the show "Flint the Time Detective", any one remember that show?

Thought not.

Well it did go out with a bang in my opinion then they ressurected it and went out with a bang again albiet a lesser not as spectacular bang but that really depends on your opinion of the ending at least they tied everything up.

Hm, dunno. Never cared for it.
I didn't really watch Pokemon, either (except maybe two or three times, when I was just bored and intrigued enough), even though I very much enjoyed the Gameboy games.
But whenever I zapped into Digimon, it was just... utterly weird.
So, from my limited experience, I'd say Pokemon was better.

I liked the Digimon anime much better than the Pokemon one, though the Pokemon games were better than the Digimon games.

They made a new season (Digimon Savers, known in USA as Digimon Data Squad), and it aired in North America on Toon Disney, but for the most part I think they stopped doing much with Digimon here because of its unpopularity compared to Pokemon.
