Personally, I'd say it's a bad idea, but then again, people would buy it.

I don't like the control with motion thing, but other people do.

*sigh*

Here we go again.

HARDCORE GAMER: "The Wii doesn't have any serious titles!"
EA: "Here's Dead Space."
HG: "THIS SUCKS and even though it's not out yet, I can already tell it's got shitty graphics!"

Bad Idea: Making an awesome first-person shooter, on the Wii.

This concludes another Good Idea, Bad Idea.
It's apparent that you didn't like Metroid Prime Corruption. On the same level of bigotry as your own post, this has lead me to believe that there is something lethal working it's way through your brain, starting at the common sense area. I'm very sorry.
Actually, I liked Corruption (I own a Wii).

Uhh, yeah, it's not a first-person shooter. Yeah, I know. What a bugger, eh?

But yeah, I don't think it's such a good idea.
People who would want "commitment" from EA, and Dead Space, wouldn't buy Wiis, or atleast would ALSO buy another console (PS3 or X360).

And yeah, there's also the graphics, but I don't think that's that bad of an idea.
Okay, you caught me. I've never played Dead Space. And now that I think of it, i should correct "first-person" to "third-person (see Dead Rising: Wii).

I can see a lot of kids and old people getting scared to death because they don't know what their buying haha.

Seriously though, good for the Wii, it needs to get a more mature gaming line to attract a different crowd and break away from its kiddy-friendly reputation.

I don't know, this could work, provided that it's not just a hastily-thrown-together port. Unfortunately, this is EA Games we're talking about, so that's always a possibility.

I believe that it's going to flop because of the Wii's shitty motion sensitive controls in most FPS games.

Which one are you talking about? PSP? PC? The DS prints money, the Wii does too, the 360 has sold about 26 million units and the PS3 has sold about 20 million if not more.

Metroid prime 3, Amazing controls
Graphics ARE the best on the Wii because of the bloom and lighting
on my HDTV it can go pairing with Perfect Dark and Halo 2

Resident Evil 4, Amazing Controls
Everything else you know, Seriously who Doesn't have this game >.>

No More Heroes, Amazing controls
Cool amine Style graphics, incredible combat, Really makes you move, not a twitch here twitch there.

Zelda Twilight Princes, Amazing controls
Sword play also works really well, following your swings... And the graphics, the terrain is where this game loses IMO, because it tries to give you big spaces. unlike metroid, small rooms.

But let me give you this,
Me, as a game designer in the making (college Woot!) I can tell you this. The more powerful the engine, the less of a challenge it takes for the game to be cool. for example, look at metroid prime, the developers took their time to see how the accelerometers worked on the numchuck so a flinch wouldn't trigger the grappling beam, you have to move your arm out and then samus would mimic your movements. They busted their asses giving every little room allot of detail so the small textures would make the game look like crap. They took their time making really good puzzles to bust your head wile tow constantly respawning space pirates where nibbling on your butt(Seriously i hate that part). They had to study their area of work and learn how to use it.

If you look at other games on other consoles the thought process would be this: you want bigger chainsaw guns, YOU GET THEM!, You want bigger environments, YOU GET THEM! and so forth. what I am trying to say here is that GOOD wii games ARE HARD to make (IMO) as for GOOD XBOX 360 games are really essy to make because there are allot less hardware challenges.

Well, even dough i came here trying to defend my wii i guess i said it can birng trouble, Well the final line would be this, Good Wii games are hard to make, But are possible, and when pulled off. They are soo good the experience is like no other. But good wii games are HARD to make so go for the safer new release of 'gears of war' until people know how to use the wii technology.

You can't find a PSP anywhere in Australia not second-hand, and while I understand where you're coming from, I was actually referring to the PS3.

It's not that I don't like the console, it's just that they haven't found its Killer App yet.

LBP and MGS4 are probably the closest, but neither have boosted sales anywhere near as much as Bioshock and Halo 3 did for the Xbox 360 and SSBB for the Wii.

It seems alot of people dont know anything about Dead Space since people keep calling it a first person shooter. It's not in first person idiots. Its an over the shoulder third person shooter. Ya know, exactly like Resident Evil 4 was? If anyone here thinks RE4 was bad then they clearly have something wrong with them.

Also, for the persistently ignorant, here is a small rundown of how I think they could throw together the control scheme.

Wave the [Wii remote] left and right for melea.
Shake the [Nunchuk] up and down for stomp attack.
Hold to bring up your weapon.
Press [A] to fire your weapon(while holding ).
Press [A] to pick up items lying on the ground(while not touching any other buttons).
Hold [Z] to sprint.
Press [A] to acces work benches(while not touching any other buttons).
Press the [+] and [-] buttons for any and all pause/start/options screens.

And finnaly the Kineses. I havent actualy playd the game yet so im not entirely sure how the kineses powers work. But with the [1], [2] and [C] buttons still not in use im sure EA could find a way to easily implement them into gameplay.

And last but not least. For those of you that are extra thick. You would use the [joystick] to move. Wow, that was a toughy.

So here ya go. Quit complaining that the game is gonna have bad controls.

Aswell, for the person(I dont remember who) who said that the Wii's physics engine wouldnt be as good as the XBox360 and PS3's. Shut up. The physics engine has nothing to do with the console. It has to do with what the game designers develop as the games physics engine.

fnph and MrEco, I love you guys. A credit to the board.
I own a Wii, and only a Wii. I play for over 40 hours a week. I would be considered a 'hardcore' gamer, yes?
So, over the shoulder horror shooters? That does sound interesting. Something vaguely similar to the MP3: Corruption control style would be ideal. (if you have *NOT* played this game, and you wish to mention bad controls, Would those kineses powers be convenient on the D-Pad?, by which I mean, are they used to similar amount as the items are in Twilight Princess? (1) and (2) are terribly akward to use during nunchuck play (lets knock these down to being map configuration buttons, if there is such a thing in this game?)

To all the nay sayers, I shall ask: Do any of you own a Wii exclusively? If not, shuddup. (That is not directed to those who backed up their opinion with some facts and a dab of fairness). 'Casual' gamers? They don't buy games. Leave them out of it and let me wait for the day that the bigshots turn their attention.

MrEco, perhaps Z would be more suited for 'raising weapon' and A for sprint?

Hearing about this game has made me quite optimistic.

Also, graphics arn't the end all. Ruin the atmosphere? You don't play a lot away from your HD powerhouse, do you?

I see exactly where you're going with the idea that good games are harder to make on the Wii. It seems the console has similar problems as the Saturn (A 2D and 3D Processor that could be combined to create amazing graphics for the period, but was never fully utilised due to the difficulty and amount of research required). It doesn't help when the "Hardcore" (I hate that term so much, just something for self-important gamers to throw around to make themselves feel superior) ***** about everything and anything they can despite having no solid facts, or even anything resembling a play of the game.

I also love the way that one game having bad controls on the Wii means that all games have bad controls. At the end of the day the Wii is doing something different, which I believe is to be commended. They could have gone the Bigger, Better, Harder, Faster route with the console, but they took a gamble and it paid off big time. Who's to say that what effect it will ultimately have on the industry, the nay-sayers will continue the "All my precious hardcore games will disappear even though there are still tons of them being made" dealie, while the more optimistic may see it as the first step towards really involving the player in these types of games once the technology has moved forwards a little more.

Anyways as for the topic at hand, I can't say I've played Dead Space, but my interest is piqued here. I may pick it up at some point, something I doubt I could say for many of the moaners on this topic.

Reading through most of this thread, most of what I see is comments about shitty graphics. Graphics do not make a game good. Yes, they can enhance a plotline, but they don't create story or plot. As far as Im concerned Dead space should be ported so more people can enjoy the this fantastic game.

The big N should really re-consider the whole " sure the Wii can play 360 games! " policie. they have a good thing going with motion control, why not actually make more games that support that properly instead of ports to games the system cant possibly run well?

Because it's not them with that mentality, it's EA Games. Nintendo's mentality is to bring as many people into gaming as they possibly can.

Other than RE:4 and TFU (technically a PS2 port, right?) what ports have been released yet?
