The playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 are two of the greatist gaming consoles to come out too date. And both have there own pro's and con's, but which one do you think is better fore someone who wants to move up to the next generation for the first time?
( to all the "reasearch you moron!" posters, i have done my reasearch. i know about the detailed pros and cons, i just want another persons honest opinion about his/her persional preference. yea, i should of looked at the other threads to make shure that this wasent a dead horse, but still, i just asked a simple question, no need to be rude.)

Does anyone else smell smoke?

It's really up to your personal preference. Choosing a console is something you need to decide for yourself.

Ok before the flaming starts (and it will if this thread isn't locked) You gotta ask yourself 3 things.

What console has the better library of games that appeal to you?

What console has the comfortable controller for you?

What console after accessories you figure you will need has the better price fit for you?

We can't tell you which one you should buy. Each one has its own pros and cons that pretty much equal each other out.

I couldn't choose either. It came down to one factor for me...money. Sure the PS3 has better tech under the bonnet, but frankly, I had £100 left for more games. Got Gears, never looked back.

Regardless of my 'life experience', it's up to you. And frankly, most games come out for either system now. You'll just have to decide whether you want Halo or Killzone really.

Well...first ask yourself if there are any exclusives you absolutely must have. I know folks who bought the PS3 because they were hard core Metal Gear Solid fans, and others who bought the 360 for Halo. Is there a particular series you have to have that's exclusive to one or the other? If so, you have your answer. If not...I went the 360 route despite being a PS2 rather than original Xbox owner. My chief motivation was volume of games. Everyone keeps touting the PS3 as being so superior in graphical capabilities, but no one's taking advantage of this. People keep banking on it for potential, but it's been out for 3 years now and just doesn't seem to have delivered. The number of titles available for it is a bit less than the 360 last time I checked. Some people complain about the 360's reliability. Honestly, I haven't had any problems with mine. I'm also careful with it. I don't knock it around, I don't drop it, I don't stand it on its edge, and I let the darn thing cool off like it should. I did the same thing with my PS2 and it still runs (and plays all the PS games I happen to like). The other big concern for me was money. I didn't have the extra $150 (at that time, I think the difference is smaller now, but not much) to get the PS3. And why did I want to pay more for fewer titles? Some people complain about the crowd on xbox live. I don't play multiplayer, so I wouldn't know. But these are all things to ask yourself. You might want to do some research, read some articles, etc.

I recommend you get the Xbox 360 because you can get most games for both and the 360 is a better product in my opinion. Also the Playstation 3, not really something you would associate with the words "greatest gaming console" for future reference.

Also if you wish to scream at me a bit about how the Playstation 3 is fare superior and how I'm just a fan boy then please do so in a PM and not in a post in this thread

well buying a ps3 isn't the cheapiest way to buy a blue ray player in more but that is a huge bonus, I like the... simplness in adjusting settings and accesories( i don't know how the 360 compares like that) some possible problems setting up an internet connection. And hopefully eventually the motion sensing in the controller will feel less tacked on and useless. Plus full back wards compatibility for every game from ps1 up.... i'm also a fanboy so yeah

I have a PS3
But if I could afford it, I'd get an XBox 360 on top.

More of my friends have a 360 so I'd enjoy the online play far more most likely.
Also, for those of you going "it has a blu ray" I have yet to buy a blu ray DVD...

In the end, it's up to you.

/shoo fanboys.

I'd go for the Playstation 3 purely because it's the most powerful and therefore more future proof. Also, if you live in the PAL region is the only chance you'll get to play Ghostbusters.

Ask yourself, are you a big fan of RPGS and the Japanese Culture? PS3.

Are you more of a macho, scratchy voiced alpha male who beats people to death with the sheer size of their massive erection? 360

Or are you five? Wii

No, seriously though, go to Wikipedia and look through the games for both systems. The PS3 tends to have more JRPGS and japanese games ala MGS. 360 tends to be more varied.

While it all depend on your personal preference, here's a short list of the pros and cons for both:

PS3:
Pros:
- Free online
- A sizable library of exclusive titles
- It's built like a US Navy battleship, both in terms of hardware and software
- Built in Wifi
- You can swap out the HDD for any SATA 2.5" drive
- Doubles as a Blu-ray player

Cons:
- More expensive than most variants of the 360

360:
Pros:
- More popular
- A sizable library of exclusive titles
- More exclusive DLC
- Extremely polished online play
- Most variants are cheaper than the PS3
Cons:
- You have to buy a separate wifi adapter
- You have to pay for an Xbox live subscription
- You have to buy specialized HDDs that only come in preset increments if you want to upgrade your storage
- RRoD
- Some have been reported to scratch discs

In the end though, it depends on which system has more of the games you want.

Either. who really cares anymore they both produce the same graphics, they both have awesome sound and they both have awesome games. So what's the difference? Buy whichever, because neither can outdo each other. I own a 360, but only because it was cheaper. I'd love both, but only because I like collecting things.

i had both systems but just sold my 360, the ps3 overpowered it with killer exclusives. both systems are great but for me the ps3 won. also the ps3 may be more expensive but you get more for your money. rechargeable controller, built in wireless and free online multiplayer are all included whereas you need to buy those separately for 360 and as i mentioned the ps3 has a great selection of exclusives.
