Didn't see a topic on this here so I figured I'd post a new topic because I always love reading what the escapists think about stuff like this. If this is a repost then don't mind me :p

So let's get straight to the point:

Article can be found here: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/379069/xbox-720-xbw-uses-penultimate-issue-to-tell-you-everything-we-know/?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS

According to the mag's final 'exposé', the next-gen Xbox - which it speculates is likely to be called simply "Xbox" - will introduce Kinect 2.0, use Blu-ray discs and feature directional audio, a TV output AND input, 'innovative controller' and - at a later stage of the console's life - AR glasses.

Current codename 'Durango' dev kits boast a CPU with "four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores" and an impressive 8GB of RAM, XBW reports.
I'm stoked for this even though I'm a PC gamer, I can't wait to see devs releasing games for proper modern hardware without current restrictions. Good news all around!

Thats fake. If I know Microsoft they would not show it to a european magazine first.

Even if it isn't, it doesn't really look Xbox

Xbox World has used the Microsoft leaks and industry sources to come up with a 3D mock-up of what it expects the next-gen Xbox to look like.
"We built ours with the same glossy face and patented VapourMG magnesium alloy Microsoft uses for its Surface tablet, and modelled the silver band after its new 'Wedge' touch keyboard and flexible Arc Touch mouse," it writes. "The future will be black, sharp and curved."

"The next-gen Xbox, which it speculates is likely to be called simply 'Xbox'..."
Um... you mean like the first Xbox console? Why on earth would they do that? I mean, Xbox 720 would be an incredibly stupid name, but just calling it Xbox is almost redundant. They already did that. I mean, no one is likely to confuse it with the original Xbox, but still, give us something to differentiate it.

That alone is enough for me to call the article into question, but I'll wait to pass judgement until I hear an "official" announcement from Microsoft. Until then, this is nothing more than what every other speculation about Microsoft and Sony's next-gen plans is: just a rumour.

... Albeit a somewhat sexy looking rumour...

They should call it Xbox 9001 for the marketing... Honestly I don't know what they should call it. Xbox seems as good as any if they are really going to stick with naming their consoles in the way they have so far.

OT: It looks pretty sweet and it seems like this will be a powerful console compared to what we've got now. I do most of my gaming on a PC though so this is just catching up. Still, this rumour has me intrigued.

If it will indeed be called just "XboX", it's the stupidest fucking name for a console ever. Yes, it's worse than Wii, or Wii U. Jesus christ people, use SOME imagination!

They made a console as powerful as my computer almost to the letter. Im impressed. The computer cost about...600 pounds and has been a fine faithful computer for about 4 or 5 years. The console will probably last a little less time and cost less. Im marginally interested. The consoles are beginning to compete almost with the middle end computers. Which is impressive. Historically hardware in computers has been a LOT better but the gap is closing. Even as a PC elitist this pleases me. More choice is always good.

While I'm a console gamer, this amused me. You do realise this thing will be dated by the time it drops, right? It's not going to be "proper modern" hardware.

Granted, the specs will be dated by only a year or two at launch, as opposed to a decade or so, but really.

Of course, a lot of people don't give a damn anyway, so it works. Just saying.

I see they choose the Black Wii design...not bad.

Can't say I'll pick up this console for at least a couple of years (or until I'm satisfied it's a stable console).
I don't intend to buy an Xbox 720 four times in it's life-cycle.

In this case it's the fact that consoles finally get DX 11(/.1) which is a much more effecient coding path than DX 9. WoW got an almost 50% boost in FPS when going from DX 9 code to DX 11 code path on the same hardware/software even with DX 11 options enabled.

Why give it 8Gb of RAM but not mention whether it has a GPU? This has got to be fake.
