That was six years ago when Blu Ray was still a new format. You can pick up a Blu Ray player for like £50 these days.

Yep, sure has. Hard to believe this gen's gone on so long isn't it? Hell the 360 is seven years old.

wow are people that jaded? I am seeing a lot of comments saying how horrible that is. I think it looks gorgeous and the specs seem amazing if they really pull it off. This next gen should have some amazing looking games on console.

It's not jaded, it's elitism. The Escapist is site with 75% of the people being members of the vaunted "PC MASTER RACE". If the new console doesn't have twice as much RAM and a processor four times stronger than their rig, plus cost less, they'll call it a waste of time.

I believe that it's a combination of both being jaded and elitism. This is the Escapist, positive thinking and optimism went out of style here sometime around 2009.

OT: I'm actually kind of excited for this, since most developers dev for consoles now, giving them more to work with should lead to an improvement in the the games they make, at least compared to the current crop. I am slightly nervous about the Kinect 2.0 and the "innovative" controller, but so long as the latter isn't too gimmicky and the former isn't forced on us (and I have no reason to believe that it will), then I don't think that many problems will arise from them. I will say that I appreciate the Blu-Ray drive, though.

OT:
I'm a mixture of happy and unimpressed. Unimpressed because its hardware doesn't really seem all that great at this time. Happy because it means my current gaming PC's lifespan will be just that much longer and I won't have to drop the money to get it upgraded until either it breaks or the next next console generation comes out (which won't be for, what, another decade?).

Like any console, if the exclusives look interesting, I'll buy it. Otherwise, it'll merely act as the minimum system requirements benchmark for my PC building.

$60 a year for no-dedicated-servers is a deal killer for 90% of games.

Over a console cycle that adds up to $300-$420 for nothing my PC cannot do and do better with more variety and options.

Because Sony do not have much say in the matter, licenses are sold by a consortium called the Blu-Ray Disk Association made up from most electronic manufacturers and some entertainment publishers.
