wow are people that jaded? I am seeing a lot of comments saying how horrible that is. I think it looks gorgeous and the specs seem amazing if they really pull it off. This next gen should have some amazing looking games on console.

All of this worry over a controller when w all know reinventing the wheel is a must regardless, and Microsoft is obsessed with motion now. Hell they even said at E3 that their primary focus was going to be Kinect and that demographic, probably less because of it's appeal to the "core" but more because they are likelier to spend more frivolously on throw away shovelware, DLC fleecing, etc, and we all know how much modern game companies love the idea of optimum monetization of their consumer base.

And that last point is what you should really be worrying about. How will they find newer and better ways to fragment the market beyond map packs, input devices, even storage mediums? How will they further capitalize on their brand and exploit their customers? What manufacturing corners will they be willing to cut this time around? What about their online component; how much will that end up costing and how invasive and restrictive will it be?

It's funny to see people get lost in the hype, but sad to see what the landscape looks like when the reality isn't nearly as palatable as the fantasy. I remember when "glasses free 3D" made a lot of people get moist in the britches, and then came confusion, apologists, and now almost nobody's talking about it.

Now I'm just harping. Considering the huge dook console makers and their developers have been taking on consumers I'm going to go with a lot of what Jim Sterling said about how consoles have become a platform for abusing customers and seek thrills elsewhere. How obtuse do you think the next batch of consoles will be about playing games, whereas they will be easier than ever to get to their market to buy more shit?

Oooo AR Glasses. Now you're onto something Microsoft. I can't get behind that stupid Kinect crap, but if it doesn't hurt my eyes, AR glasses mixed with controller could make for a very impressive gaming experience. Then again, Kinect has continually met my expectations(of failure), so we'll see.

Looks aight, even if it is a mockup based on speculation. I won't even consider it unless it's fully compatible with games right back to the xbox 1 library. Yes, all of it.

A Disk slot instead of a tray would be nice, too.

According to the mag's final 'exposé', the next-gen Xbox - which it speculates is likely to be called simply "Xbox" - will introduce Kinect 2.0, use Blu-ray discs and feature directional audio, a TV output AND input, 'innovative controller' and - at a later stage of the console's life - AR glasses.

Current codename 'Durango' dev kits boast a CPU with "four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores" and an impressive 8GB of RAM, XBW reports.
OMG!!! GIMMICK!!! DO NOT WANT!!!

... wait, this isn't about Nintendo? In that case, OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEIR AWESOME NEW CONTROLLER!!!

Never, but if Forza is any indicator, we'll keep getting half the game we pay for while the rest is held until you pay ransom to access it.

Is that why Epic estimates it would take them 5 times the amount of money for a current console game to make a PC game like that tech demo they made?
No, Epic says that because they're full of shit. Not because the statement is completely untrue - it may as well be perfectly true, for all I know;
The key words being "tech demo". If you're demoing the tech for an engine you hope to one day licence out of course you're going to pour buckets of cash into making it look as sleek and fantastic as you can. You'll burn thousands of work-hours rescripting and tweaking each sequence so that it renders perfectly... You'll spend untold hours pissing about with new features just so you can show them off... You'll work overscale so you can tweak things in downscaling... and so on and so forth. You'll work yourself and everyone else half to death so you can put out a tech demo that makes people go "Holy shit! Can a single computer do that?"

I just want x-box live to not be so much of a bother to use. Like how it was on the original x-box. It was so handy and accessible. And you never had to sit through a fuckton of downloads before being able to play a game.

Easy accessibility is supposed to be console's major advantage over PC. So make it more like that.

My now 5 year old computer is more powerfull than that. :/

Dont really see why everyone is so impressed.
Standards for console power are a lot lower than PC. I don't know them off the top of my head, but the 360 and PS3's specs are basically garbage compared to a PC, yet they can play a lot of the same games.
That is becouse the console have worse graphics, and use a lot of tricks like having huge guns on the screen, low FoW and fps and so on.

So its a 4 core with hyper threading?

Not particularly impressed. Even with 8 gigs of ram, which I already have.
Yeah, this was my thought too......

I mean really? 8 gig? Sure RIGHT NOW 8 gig is more than what you need to have a good gaming experience.... But the 360 came out 7 years ago.... In 7 years we will all be laughing at the concept of a quad core ( even with hyper threading) with 8 gig.....

They had better think about doing that whole modular thing that was rumored a while back.
If you're gonna be forced to swap out parts for expensive new ones every couple years or so, why not just cut out the middle man and get a PC?

People prefer consoles because of the ease of use. You don't need to worry if your new game will run on your Graphics Card or Processor. And it allows developers to make games for one spec, rather than a general idea of what every unique PC has.

Well, speaking for myself... I have pretty much given up on the consoles at this point, most every game I buy is for PC.

DUDE/DUDETTE!!! The 360 is able to do amazing things, such as Witcher 2 at medium level, with .5 Gig of ram and 3 core processor.

Threads are just as good as cores. This will have 4 cores/8 threads and 8 gig of RAM, WITHOUT having to do much besides process games. Consoles have, IMHO, about doubled what a PC can do with similar hardware.

And even as a PC gamer: I think PC games have been held back by 7 year old console tech. A great PC rig will out perform any console. As consoles take a leap forward (and this is a giant leap: 3 core to 8 thread, 1/2 Gig RAM to 8) so will PC games.

I for one, cannot wait. My 360 finally died after 6.5 years of service and I don't want to replace it, knowing this thing is coming, and my HD 7970 isn't really challenged by today's games. When this comes out... what will PC games look like in turn? It is going to be awesome!

Uh, no.

Because those specs are on par with a minimum spec PC. Hell I have a computer I built last year that has AT LEAST the same power as the Xbox.

Those specs are minimum now, not even high specs. If they were, expect 900-1,000 watt power draw and at LEAST a GTX 650 with 16 gigs and a TB of HDD space.

Those specs WONT make it very far.
Compared to a PC. But it appears to be quadrupling it's current power, which will leave room for PCs to stretch themselves a bit. Right now, consoles are the lag.

Why only 8GB? Ram is so cheap, I bunged 16GB of DDR3 in my new system and it was the cheapest hardware in the whole build (fans and stuff not included). The system is easily future proofed now.
