No. Hyperthreading allows a single core to efficiently divide its' power among two threads, effectively allowing your 3 GHz 4 core processor to behave like a 1.5 GHz 8 core processor. It makes task switching quicker.

It's not a magic thing that can make programs twice as fast. It's just a small optimisation with a good buzzword. That's why you don't see any improvements, and also why it's in there regardless of whether you feel you want it.
I never stated anything about twice the performance, also technically the Durango won't have hyper-threading, it will use another name for having 4 logical cores to one physical since it being an IBM chip.

Also are you saying this guy is wrong http://www.overclock.net/t/756266/hyper-threading-enabled-vs-disabled-in-real-apps ?
These are real world applications and not theory.

We do all realise that all of this information is just speculation with a picture stuck on?

If it will indeed be called just "XboX", it's the stupidest fucking name for a console ever. Yes, it's worse than Wii, or Wii U. Jesus christ people, use SOME imagination!
Nothing will ever be stupider that the Wii or Wii U...lol

Also, what imagination do you need in continuations of a product? The best approach is to have it be numerical to cease confusion.

Xbox 3
or
Xbox III - if you want to be fancy.

There!

I positively hyped by the news, even though I will never in my right mind buy the thing. It just means that new stuff is coming soon. Like the PS4 and better games. I hope for a future!

Because I guess and apocalypse happened when no one was looking. I mean why else would we have "Star Trek' and "Wolfenstein?"

The little Yathzee inside you. It talks to me.

Why is the CD slot so small? (or) Why is it so giant?

It seems unlikely that this is where it would be revealed.

Anyone else look at that and think "Hey, that looks like a Hauppague HDPVR turned on its side!" Here's a pic of the model:

See the similarity?

Well, the image is an artists interpretation...so there really is no sense going over the looks of the thing. Specs sound good, if some things seem...overblown. Hyperthreading? Why? Should be good tho, and maybe finally we'll get full syncro between Windows and Xbox.

Um... you mean like the first Xbox console? Why on earth would they do that? .
Theyve done a 360 you see, and now the cycle may repeat...

I like how the PS4 mention is given a minor footnote.

It's Xbox World. They're not SUPPOSED to enthuse about things that aren't Xbox.

I imagine you're surprised when you find out that Rush Limbaugh doesn't think highly of Obama.

OT: Looks nifty. I think I'll still pass.

let's hope that, whatever the final design turns out to be, it's smaller then that mock-up. if that slot on the silver band is it's optical drive, that thing would be at least twice the height of a Wii U, and somewhat bigger then most 15.6" laptops.

size aside, I hope we see a trend away from graphics focused design with the next hardware cycle, we're pretty close to the point where poly count slams into diminishing returns against rendering power requirements, so if the next generation machines are significantly more powerful, it should be used for smoother animations and more accurate procedural modeling.

that probably sounded a lot better in my head.

its legit as most people on the inside already know the performance range of which parts are going to be. Now its just detailing out the little items to make sure the price point is right to the best equipment that gets them.

I reckon it's fake since it says the magazine will be out in January 2013...So why are they reviewing Ass' creed 3, Halo 4 and Hitman so late?

My now 5 year old computer is more powerfull than that. :/

Dont really see why everyone is so impressed.
Standards for console power are a lot lower than PC. I don't know them off the top of my head, but the 360 and PS3's specs are basically garbage compared to a PC, yet they can play a lot of the same games.

Didn't see a topic on this here so I figured I'd post a new topic because I always love reading what the escapists think about stuff like this. If this is a repost then don't mind me :p

So let's get straight to the point:

Article can be found here: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/379069/xbox-720-xbw-uses-penultimate-issue-to-tell-you-everything-we-know/?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS

According to the mag's final 'exposé', the next-gen Xbox - which it speculates is likely to be called simply "Xbox" - will introduce Kinect 2.0, use Blu-ray discs and feature directional audio, a TV output AND input, 'innovative controller' and - at a later stage of the console's life - AR glasses.

Current codename 'Durango' dev kits boast a CPU with "four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores" and an impressive 8GB of RAM, XBW reports.
I'm stoked for this even though I'm a PC gamer, I can't wait to see devs releasing games for proper modern hardware without current restrictions. Good news all around!

Also.....Redcoats with lightsabers....I wish to learn more.
