I agree completely. I hate the idea of working my butt off to get some arbitrary score I can then compare to thousands of other people. The thrill of the game comes in playing it and seeing what I can do with it. I'll spend hours trying something out just to see if it's possible (Once spent 2 hours stacking crates in a Thief level), but it loses the thrill to be told what useless thing I should spend my time one. On the other hand, some achievements can be useful for pointing you in a fun direction, but this could easily be accomplished some other way without the arbitrary awards.51gunner said:Based on accumulating some arbitrary score value? As a means of motivating me to try new things in my gameplay? Sure, they're great for that, or for the extra little challenges. They help add replay value to games.
