I feel good when the little achievement thing pops up, but I don't go out of my way to get them.
Same, I find that it's more amusing when you get them on the side :)

the only time i don't care is when i play a game that is totally shit and i feel to bored to play the rest so i only get 1 achievement....a good example of one is Soldier of Fortune: Payback......game is total shit....and one more is cabelas trophy bucks hears a little review of that game

This is one of the mos misleading games ever on the back of the box it shows amazing visuals....BUT THE GAME LOOKS LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE ON THE DS.......and on cabelas game page it says to "immerse yourself in a realistic hunting environment" bullshit, i didn't know that having the power to see inside the animals using x-ray glasses was realistic. and the concept of the game is 50 miles behind the word hunting. all you do in the game is see how many birds you can shoot in 3 minutes......basically 5 million come out and you shoot your gun wildly...after that its win game and go back to playing a good game....the only people who like playing this game i can assume are raging fanboys who in their spare time eat bugs and make love to sheep.

I'll play a game for story, and i'll also try to get achievements as i go or repeat the game for the achievements.
Also i think this thread has been done before, you should use the search engine before starting a thread.

I was, then i didn't care for a long while. However Halo wars has turned me into that snarling beast 41 out of 50 so far.

Achievements are pure genius. It convinces gamers to go deeper into the game and see things they may never have seen. Think GTA 4's "Pigeon" achievement or Fable 2's three seperate ending achievements.
You can just save before the choices and reload to get the 3 ending achievements.

I like the achievement system I thought it was a good idea and I still compete with my brother for them but since Sony came out with the trophy system I like it way better. The achievements only give points and logs the games you play. The trophy system pretty much does that and much more with a level system and 100% completion trophy.

I think all achievements should be "secret achievements" so they won't spoil anything.
I usually can't resist the urge to read through the achievement list of a newly purchased game.

They say curiosity killed the cat, but I never learn...

Yep, and I am more likely to go after a particular goal in a game if there is an achievement for it. Hence why I didn't bother going after all the intel reports in Operation Anchorage though I did colect all the bobbleheads in vanilla Fallout 3. The effort does seem a little pointless if there isn't going to be any recognition for it...

As for the point regarding secret achievements, if you have watched the video from the Gears of War 2 people regarding their achievements, then you will know my thoughts on them as well. I have only ever unlocked one secret achievement, that was in N+ and I think it came from dying a lot in a single level. But seriously, how do you actually go about gaining an achievement that you know absolutely nothing about?

It would be somewhat like trying to pass your driving test, except the invigilator doesn't one tell you what to do during the test...

Not really, although that might be hard to believe as I have >25k. I just play a lot of games and try to go for them because I like the "Achievement Unlocked" sound

I heard it best on the Halo 3 forums. Achievements are like Tourist Traps on Vacation. Your there for the city, but occasionally you might go out of the way to see the landmarks. Some people choose to see all the landmarks, and make it the entirety of their Vacation. While others may just pass one when travelling.

I got this from a web comic.
Guy 1: My dick hat is worth 2,000 points
Guy 2: Well my dick hat is worth 10,000 points
Guy 3: Do you giant dick hats do anything?

To be honest, they're just another way to be snooty about how you're a "better gamer". and that stament has nothing to do with me being bitter about everyone in my friend list having at least twice my gamerscore.

I used to be a bit of an achievement whore, but I have so many points now that the little 10 pointers don't even really mean much anymore. I've slowed down quite a bit and just focus on the game. Though if I happen to unlock an achievement, my black little heart warms up for a short while.
