Article Below------

Microsoft has announced that as of November 1, 2010, the price for Xbox Live Gold will go up in Canada, the US, United Kingdom and Mexico. The annual fee will go up by $10 in the United States, with one and three month subscriptions also going up in price.

Starting November 1, a one month subscription in the US will cost $9.99 and a three month subscription will carry a price tag of $24.99. These are increases of $2 and $5 respectively. In the UK, a one month subscription will go up by 1 GBP to 5.99. Canadian and Mexican one month subscriptions will go up by $1 CAD and 100 Pesos each to $9.99 and 599 Pesos. All other subscription packages will have the same prices.

In a posting, Microsoft spokesperson Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb explained the hike:

"Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription."

Analyst Jesse Divinich of EEDAR believes this price increase will not have a major effect of Microsoft's momentum or subscription base, saying that, "EEDAR believes the fee increase will do little to impact the positive momentum of the Xbox 360," and that given the service improvements through the year, "it comes as no surprise that Microsoft would eventually increase the price of a Gold subscription by a moderate amount."

Well that sucks for 360 players, though it probably wont effect anything. :p

Wait, what. Isn't PSN free? Does XBL have a lot more stuff on it? What he is saying doesn't make sense to me.

I have a PS3 so this is no big deal for me. It just makes even more less likely that I will be getting a 360 anytime soon.

Well I don't own a 360 myself but I am sure that they both have similar amount of content on their stores.

Yeah it's not going to change anything. Kinda pisses me off, but I'll still pay it. I suppose it's not too big of a price hike.

Well it is annoying, but it's fine, really. I mean $50 for year-long access to online play and all the other awesome stuff XBL offers? It's a great price, and a $10 increase isn't going to change that.

As for the comparisons to PSN, yeah, PSN is free. It's also not nearly as good.

Sure, its a small hike, but Fuck this. I don't use any features on xbox live other than multi-player, why should I have to pay more the same service?

That's why I bought a PS3. If you don't play online, I don't see the point in Xbox live. I don't, (as I prefer games with real stories and interesting characters) and I opted to get the PS3 because of that. But why are they hiking it? PSN is free, and that's been updating itself for a while now.

they should have different rates depending on what each individual wants. Silver is the free default, Gold should keep the same price and be used for gaming and videogame related things, while the premium service (Platinum?) would offer all the other things like music and movies and would be a bit more costly.

just buy the subscription cards online from different stores and you'll be fine. thats what i do, i end up spending even less money than most people do, i have bought year subscriptions for 24 bucks before from certain website stores.

I kind of like the aesthetic more, but other then the Mii rip-offs I'm not aware of any features the PS3 lacks.
