A pact!? Really!? Why?

I am not going to get one, because I am in the military and often don't have internet, so am already excluded from their customer base. What I am not going to do is kick up a stink about it, or sign anything saying I won't get one... In the future my circumstances may change, and it may warrant me purchasing one, but at the moment I am going to stick with the PS4.

And so what if you can't get second hand games... You can't buy a downloadable game second hand, and this is exactly the same!

People saying better exclusives than the ps4 what... halo 5... are you serious? The games on xbone look awful like beyond terrible, the only good ones are coming out for the ps4 as well

Calm down, people. Microsoft hasn't done terrible things to your dog. They're a COMPANY. They don't know you exist.

You don't like what they do, don't buy their stuff, but don't try to whip up some sort of "boycott" or make a "pact". You can only speak for yourself.
You see, whilst I totally agree that's how business works and that there has to be an element of cuthroatness and detachment which comes with that, Microsoft have a duty of care to show it's customers the respect they deserve, and repay them for giving them such a foothold in the console market to begin with.

By investing in Microsoft these past few years the gamer has funneled funds to them which could have gone elsewhere, and in doing so have placed trust in them to use those fund for the good of the industries future - not just themselves.

As you say, we can take it or leave it, but people should feel pissed off at how Microsoft have acted - most people do what they do (graphic designer, fisherman, architect etc.) out of an initial passion for their chosen field, whereas Microsoft just have a passion for making money. That's fine if they stick to that passion and back the creative types, giving them the platforms, backing and freedom to create great things and fulfill their own passion. However the passion for making money has actively stifled that, and if all gamers were to take a bit of a stand it would be the quest way of re-addressing the balance IMO.
Nope, Microsoft doesn't have a duty towards its customers. They have a duty towards their shareholders.

I've been watching MS mess up the X-Bone reveal 82 ways from Sunday and all I've been thinking is, "wow, have they just fired all their marketing people and gotten a lobotomized Proboscis monkey instead?". They've been incredibly arrogant and condescending towards their own customer base, trying to sell something that nobody's wanted since the first release of Windows Media Center back in the day, but that's their prerogative.

It's our prerogative, however, to vote with our wallets. Don't start acting all hurt and agonized because Microsoft has "betrayed you". They don't know who you are.

They made a decision to do this, and the ONLY way to let them know they've messed up is to hurt their bottom line and not give them your money.

I'm in . But it has to be a blood pact . With sacrifices and everything .

So what we need is . A knife , a virgin , a lunar eclipse , some black hoods , some candles , and a bag of oreos . Because everything is better with oreos.

All other Xbone shortcomings are but annoyances except one: you no longer own the games you buy. You "license" them. Which means when the expiration date is up - you no longer own shit. Keep that in mind when buying your Xbone. I feel that this abominable practice must be abolished as soon as possible.

Trust me, right now the only way MS is getting money for a new console from me is if my 360 dies and I get a 360 slim to replace it.

Anyway, I was thinking of getting one. It has better exclusives.
Well, to each their own and everything. The stuff shown at the PS4 reveal was miles more interesting, imo. I liked the look of MGSV (multi-format) and Titanfall (out on PC, too) looked OK. Nothing else grabbed me, though. Ryse, in particular, stands out as looking truly awful.
I was thinking of Sunset Overdrive and Spark, but PS4 doesn't have any exclusives I find that interesting. That said, because of the price I will still get a PS4- I posted that comment before it got to the part in my stream about price. And the Mad Max game.
I liked the look of Spark, but they mentioned it was on Windows 8 devices, too. I can't help but be skeptical of Spark, but it might be worth keeping an eye on; it was nice to see some colour.

Oddly enough I agree with the tone of the OP, I dislike melodrama but some people are missing the real point, this isn't about just gaming and console wars, this is about consumer rights. Since the dawn of humanity we have traded what we bought, we have ownership of objects (outside of proto-communist tribal societies), and Microsoft have decided on a centralized, super controlled system like a soviet state, it is a sinister development, and I have no doubt Sony would have happily gone down the same path if not for the massive and justified backlash against Microsoft, that backlash just saved the console.

Now the PS4 is the only real next gen console left. Since the NES, and even before during the 2nd gen era (Amiga 500 anyone?) we traded games with our friends, we factoring re-sale and swaps into our buying habits, it was our little slice of the market and trade world, it was freedom, and along with pro-consumer competition the good side of capitalism, Microsoft wanted to impose a monopoly, the bad side of capitalism. It takes away competition, so higher prices, our choice of brand and use of the product, and I truly hope that the shiney new exclusives don't cause all that many to allow corporations to take yet another liberty from us, one tiny step at a time.

Game publishers are the most of arrogant, self entitled companies that have ever existed, literally. Looking throughout history I have yet to find any manufacturer of anything, from flint tools to elegant 17th century tables that demanded the buyer lose ownership rights, unbelievable. The XBone was made for these publishers, to allow them to indulge this attitude, and I for one will never spend money to encourage these parasites, and neither should anyone else. Ignorance and apathy is no excuse, we need to educate and inspire our fellow consumers to be aware of the enemies of our rights.

I am not denying that you have a right to buy an XBone if that is your choice, but it will be one of the last you can make from then on.

It's good to raise awareness. This should be couched as a self-respect issue. Basically people that fall in line, treat them as if they don't have any self respect. And don't let them forget it. And by them, I mean them as a group. Which is kind of like a pact, but basically its just a counter culture. It's about time for a good ol' schism.
Insulting people for their taste in entertainment devices isn't going to convert them, it's just going to get their backs up and reinforce their decision.

Do it in a non-condescending way and then it'll work, but from experience I don't think many gamers can actually do that, the vindictive little cunts.

holy balls dude, you take games way too seriously (never mind, after reading Ed LeCore's post, the op doesn't look nearly as intense). we're talking about a console here, not a dictator. really, none of the policies of the xbox one bother me. i already avoid used games and never cared that much about drm. im mainly a pc gamers so it doesnt matter either way, but i dont have an issue with the xbox one. seriously, imagine what a better place this would be if people cared half as much about real world problems, as they do about video games

Consumer rights are real world problems, as I addressed at the beginning of my post, its not just about consoles. As to dictators, one of the problems with giving corporations too much power and control is that they have as much money, and in some cases actual political power as actual countries, but without the democratic restrictions. Some with too much faith in the market think that that's ok and it will sort itself out, but not if the consumer fails to recognize a threat to their purchasing power. If your're going to reference my post at least acknowledge the points I made. I am a PC gamer too, and neither console effects me directly, however we are all effected by changes in corporate culture. Big picture people.

The silliness that the Xbone has brought to the table should hurt them on it's own. Sony should get to experience a decent amount of market share this time around and Microsoft will loose their dominance in the AAA space.

While I'm now firmly decided on a PS4, I don't begrudge people who decide on the Xbone. I just hope they understand what they're doing when they choose it over a ps4 or the computer.

I will probably end up getting it as my friends will most likely get it and none of the problems are that important to me. I will wait for the price to drop to at most $399. So it comes down to apathy and the power of friendship. Now isn't that just sad.
