360, I've already had one break.. But it's cheap(er) to replace it seeing that I've got a harddrive and now the arcade is only £127.99.

PS3's are too expensive atm, when I get my student loan (if I get one) I might buy my dad one for christmas if they're cheaper enough cos I don't want one, they're too big and I'm quite happy with my PS2 tyvm

As long as you don't buy a pre-owned Xbox - it should be immune from the 3 Red Lights now (or so they say) and anyway if it does get RROD, its a free repair, and I got mine returned to me within a week.
Yep, sent mine off for repair today and I'm still saying go with 360. I mean, I never did anything too crazy with it so despite being an original version it lasted two years without problems of any kind.

PS3's are worth getting if you can, but I decided I could afford one console and it was the 360.

Well, it seems that you've already been answered, but i'll put my 2 cents in. I only own a 360, but I go to my friends house and he's got a PS3.
Xbox 360: Better Online, more exclusives(including DLC), cheaper, larger amount of games overall.
PS3: Blu-Ray, free online, more features by itself(Wi-Fi,etc.), and so far, better prospect for the future.

or a good ol PS3
i like the games on both and stuff but im pushing towards PS3 becuase of its smaller break down chance and bluray.
soo any ideas.
dont forget to give me reasons too.
What did you have before?

PS3 is region free with games so I reckon if you move around a lot - Buy that.

You must have played one or both where you moved from, can't that help you decide. Friends abroad (online) to play with, which console?

2009
PS3 - announced loads of great games.
360 - Alan Wake.

Not as easy as it looks. Really want Alan Wake.

All it really comes down to is the games, for me the PS3 was sold the moment I knew that God of War 3 was an exclusive. But in all honesty I would of brought it regardless and heres why.
The games. (Just my opinion thought)
The graphics, though on most games you can't really tell the difference.
Blu-Ray, for me buying the Blu-Ray disc is a way of honouring really a good movies.
Online, less screaming retards and racial slurrs. Bsides that MAG and Resistance 2 offer a unique online FPS experiance.

Also the fail rate is much lower that the 360 and it's environmentally friendly :)

ok let make it simple the xbox is the best one because all game makers r now bring the games out on both (on less the game is made by sony killzone and lbp) but with the xbox u get the dlc on it gta is the biggest one so far and the reason the ps3 wont get it because it cost 2 much 2 port it to work on the ps3. so people that say that the ps3 is goin 2 get better is worng for the simple point that the playstation can not get the big games for the ps3(like the big sell point of the ps3 was FF but the ps3 can not sell the games to cover the cost of making it so in comes the xbox) only do to the fact the that the xbox out sells it on games(gta, resident evil 5, call of duty 4 and world at war) the ps3 may have blu-ray but really u can get a xbox and a blu-ray player for the same price of a ps3 so what the point. o and before u think im a fan boy i do have both and i love playing killzone online but i still will buy the games for the xbox because of the dlc and the online on the xbox. but in the end it up 2 u.

Xbox 360. It has more games than PS3, and overall, it just has better games. But if you plan on having on Online subscription to play multiplayer for about 5 years, then go with the PS3 for its free Online connection. If you're not playing online, then definitely the Xbox 360. Much cheaper.

Xbox has better muliplatform games in terms of running/visuals. Better online that you have to pay for, but is worth it in some ways. Comes with everything you need standard/HD hookups, a mic, free month of XBL. It is not 100% backwards compatible so if you were hoping for that you're boned.

PS3 has amazing exclusives that make the best use of the system, far better than the multiplatform games which -almost- always look just slightly worse than 360 (this is if you're super picky) or run at half the frame rate (If you play assassins creed). It has free online that works pretty okay, but it's free so it's awesome on it's on merit. Has more storage than it 360, doesn't come with HD inputs or a headset. Only some versions of the PS3 are backwards compatible half the time on certain days of the week.

SO both systems have their faults and their perks, if you're going to get a 360 get a warranty, if you're going to get a PS3 get some HD cables and a non-static cloth to dust the thing.

If you're worried about consoles breaking down get a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive , I've had mine since 1991 and it still works perfect. Sure it doesn't play blu ray but it plays Genesis/Mega Drive games and has blast processing, something these new consoles could learn about.

It depends on what games you like. Theres not one PS3 exclusive that i'm losing sleep over. The games that are cross console tend to be better on the 360.

And while it may seem small, the 360 controller is much more comfortable if you have big hand like me.

I don't have it anymore, but an Xbox Live goldmembership only costs about $4.20 a month.
On the contrary, I believe it depends on what kind of person you are...
if your the prius/focus driving kinda guy then buy a Xbox360
if you'd love a '70 Mustang Boss 302 go for a PS3
and if your a GT kinda guy then get....build.... yourself a PC and start overclocking...

I'm a hardware junkie though so my preferences are always based on specs....
I tend to care more about the ride than where I'm driving it, but to each there own....

ok i'm gonna say this first...i understand the circumstances but please don't ever ask this question again.

I think PS3 because it has more or the same amount of exclusives as the 360. and more are on the way. plus online has been getting more populated with mics so people are getting alot more social. also sony has a ten year plan for the ps3 which means you will still be getting games for the ps3 until it is older then 10 years. the 360 Microsoft is just gonna drop a year after their next console

i have both and i do just find myself playing the ps3 a whole lot longer then the 360. but that's my reasoning for the ps3 if you get a 360 fine by me it's a good console with good games.

PS3 will last longer but is more expensive.

Xbox 360 is cheaper but lasts for a short amount of time.

Both have a great library of games.

What are you more interested in?

I think 360 is better, more games, better online... I have both consoles and it's true that the ps3 games look amazing, has LittleBigPlanet(which is practically a reason to buy a ps3, it's why I did), free online, runs a hell of a lot quieter and plays blu-ray but the online gaming doesn't work at all due to how strict the console is with NAT type, and it's very possible that you may experience this problem.

But really, if it's between the two consoles, definitely 360 would be my suggestion, it's has really great games to get online (ie. Castle Crashers, worms, N+) and also has a greater, wider selection of games to get in stores, most of which are worth playing.

If you do get a 360, then get a warranty because after about a year, the red ring, unfortunitely, is inevitable but still the console is worth it.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck with your new console whatever it may be

Both if you can. PS3 for Blu-ray and not just this generation of games but PS2 and 1 classics too. Can't play Shin Megami games on my 360. That said I have more this generation games on my 360 than on my PS3. I love Fable 2, Warriors Orochi 2, Oblivion, and Tales of Vespiria. Hubby plays Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Too Human, Bad Company, plus the ones I mentioned (and others we have but no longer play.)

- While the PS3 is more expensive, it comes with free Wifi and online, which are pretty expensive on the Xbox 360. So in the end, the prices of both consoles are about the same.

- Some multiplatform games on the PS3 lack anti-aliasing, but other than that they are equal to the Xbox 360's.

- The Xbox 360 has Netflix, but the PS3 has Blu-ray. It's your choice.

- The Xbox's controller is much more comfortable, but require you to change batteries every time they run out (or get rechargeable ones). When the PS3's controller runs out of power, just plug it into a cord (that's connected to the PS3) and continue playing (a very convenient feature).

- The Xbox's controller randomly disconnects (even at full charge) if you move around a lot, while the PS3's controller always stays connected.

So in the end they're both pretty equal. In my opinion, the PS3's better because it has Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Warhawk, and Ratchet and Clank. My advice, learn what exclusives you're more interested in :)
