In the original UFO, no matter what difficulty you selected after the first mission it reset to Beginner.Crazzee said:TFTD was amazingly difficult on purpose, as I hear it. Something about the skill levels being buggy in the first one, so they all ended up being just as hard as the "Beginner" level. People complained that it wasn't difficult enough, so the company went "Difficult? You want DIFFICULT? Okay, we'll give you difficult."
Don't forget the long boring mutlipart missions where you have to open every closet in maps that are too large and complicated.GloatingSwine said:TFTD made everything much harder numbers wise (your guns became weaker, got less ammo, enemies got loads more HP and armour), and then made the difficulty work properly, so it was even more psychopathic.

It literally looks like a Bioshock mod.
The fucking weapons look nearly identical, the plasmid hand/power whatever stuff is clearly present.
What a cop out.
Star Control 4 would be annoying but too appropriate and therefore shows a lack of progress in the genre. I think that it should be called Zork's Guide to The Galaxy in honour of infocom.Halceon said:Hey, guys! Here's an idea for a great game! It's going to be a 3D space flight simulator with extreme emphasis on stealth and evasion. Meaning - for the most of the game you will be a tiny ship among colossi. It will be rather open and you can literally float out into the black, if you so choose. There will, of course, be on-planet and on-station interactions with NPCs, as well as a crew. Maybe even a love pentagon somewhere in there, including gay/lesbian relationships. As for the title, well we're still undecided between Commander Keen, Dora the Explorer and Pac Man.
Very, very improbable. The X-Com continuity starts with the First Alien War in 1999 and just goes on into the future. There is very little backwards compatibility here. More on that here [http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=X-COM_Timeline].TheComedown said:But who knows, maybe they will have a spin on the story that will make it actually fit in to the xcom world somewhere.
I'm not saying i'm completely going to ignore this game. I too loved XCOM back in the day (seeing the trailer made me dig up my old XCOM floppy that I had). I'm just hoping that they don't drag the XCOM name down with a poorly made Bioshock clone...Sartan0 said:The thing is... if they did not call it X-COM I would say this game looks like fun and the setting is refreshing. Frankly I am willing to give them a chance. I loved X-COM back in the day and even Terror from the Deep but I am willing to see a re-imagining of it.
I will keep an eye on this one.
I hear you. There seems to be some confusion as to how much Kevin Levine is involved. If he is running it I have some faith.MrBrightside919 said:I'm not saying i'm completely going to ignore this game. If they make a great game...i'll certainly be picking the game up day one...

Naw... they'll remake it in the same style as Puzzle Quest.octafish said:They'll probably make a Jagged Alliance kart game next. Shit.
