I thought it looked pretty cool.

And with the exception of a shotgun, the guns look nothing like BioShock, although the way Dude Bro holds them does.

TFTD was amazingly difficult on purpose, as I hear it. Something about the skill levels being buggy in the first one, so they all ended up being just as hard as the "Beginner" level. People complained that it wasn't difficult enough, so the company went "Difficult? You want DIFFICULT? Okay, we'll give you difficult."
In the original UFO, no matter what difficulty you selected after the first mission it reset to Beginner.

TFTD made everything much harder numbers wise (your guns became weaker, got less ammo, enemies got loads more HP and armour), and then made the difficulty work properly, so it was even more psychopathic.

Don't forget the long boring mutlipart missions where you have to open every closet in maps that are too large and complicated.

It literally looks like a Bioshock mod.
The fucking weapons look nearly identical, the plasmid hand/power whatever stuff is clearly present.

What a cop out.

Ugh.

Please stop remaking good games by turning them into dime-a-dozen FPS's, plox.

Fallout 3, not included, as yeah, it was still Fallout. They just changed the camera angle.

This though... this is a shame. A shameful, shameful shame.

Hey, guys! Here's an idea for a great game! It's going to be a 3D space flight simulator with extreme emphasis on stealth and evasion. Meaning - for the most of the game you will be a tiny ship among colossi. It will be rather open and you can literally float out into the black, if you so choose. There will, of course, be on-planet and on-station interactions with NPCs, as well as a crew. Maybe even a love pentagon somewhere in there, including gay/lesbian relationships. As for the title, well we're still undecided between Commander Keen, Dora the Explorer and Pac Man.

Commander Explorer-Man? Sorry had to put some humor in this even though I am one
of those the played the original and everything that came after(including the clone
that shall not be named), and I am still annoyed with X-com being slapped on this.
After watching the trailer, if they really wanted to slap a known name on it, they
should have called it The Thing: First Encounter. At least then it wouldn't be
raping my nostalgia any more then the last game that had that title.

*edit*
just to clear that up. the last game just had the title, The Thing.

Star Control 4 would be annoying but too appropriate and therefore shows a lack of progress in the genre. I think that it should be called Zork's Guide to The Galaxy in honour of infocom.

Never played or really saw anything of the original X-com games, but you're right it does look like its taken bioshock and fallout3 smushed them together then pulled out any rpg elements that may have survived before throwing in the revolver from bioshock.

But having said that, it does look like it has an interesting premise, but this is coming from a shooter fan. Even tho I'm not much of a strategy fan, it annoys me when they do something like this and ruin the franchise name. But who knows, maybe they will have a spin on the story that will make it actually fit in to the xcom world somewhere.

Edit: One last question. How does a bullet/s stop a liquid form?

It's not Xcom if you can't keep playing after your squad is wiped out. I could almost get behind this if there wasn't a main protagonist just ranomly generated soldier/agents, and if you could control the squad Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six style.

I don't mind it being set in the 50's, I don't mind there being new aliens, I don't mind it being a FPS exactly. It just isn't X-Com, and I want more squad oriented, turn-based strategy games damn it.

They'll probably make a Jagged Alliance kart game next. Shit.

Very, very improbable. The X-Com continuity starts with the First Alien War in 1999 and just goes on into the future. There is very little backwards compatibility here. More on that here [http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=X-COM_Timeline].

The thing is... if they did not call it X-COM I would say this game looks like fun and the setting is refreshing. Frankly I am willing to give them a chance. I loved X-COM back in the day and even Terror from the Deep but I am willing to see a re-imagining of it.

I will keep an eye on this one.
I'm not saying i'm completely going to ignore this game. I too loved XCOM back in the day (seeing the trailer made me dig up my old XCOM floppy that I had). I'm just hoping that they don't drag the XCOM name down with a poorly made Bioshock clone...

If they make a great game...i'll certainly be picking the game up day one...

Hmph. Looks promising, but I wish they'd at the very least venture outside of the same damn neighborhood in the trailer. It's like some others have said... It gives it the feel of a mod rather than a separate game.

I'm sorry for those of you who are disappointed, but I guess I'm personally not in a position to be such because I never played the old games. I'm willing to give this a chance, but only if the story is good. I'll wait to pass judgment until I hear more about it.

I hear you. There seems to be some confusion as to how much Kevin Levine is involved. If he is running it I have some faith.

Naw... they'll remake it in the same style as Puzzle Quest.

Because nothing says "rough, tough mercenaries fighting in a 3rd world shithole" like matching up brightly coloured gems.
