Yeah, I do. Which probably says more about game reviewers in general that Yahtzees own ability to review. He's one of the few game reviewers I know who I feel like I can actually trust. He's also about the only guy who list multiple down sides to a game too, so if he mentions something which I know will get on my goat I won't get the game.

Also I think it's important to listen to his conclusion of the game. Often he'll spend the whole video listing a games faults and then end with "But all in all I liked this game" or something along those lines. People just don't like when he gives a good review apparently so he sticks to what he hates about it.

Yes I take him seriously. He specifically states that he is a game critic unbelievably high standards to point out what is wrong with all games. In his Bioshock review he teared it apart even though he admits it was good. A lot of the games he plays likes, but he is trying to point out the problems that exist so more people will stop accepting them. And he is always right. It's his opinion so he can't be wrong, but his criticisms are agreeable though not game breaking. He also knows that there are hundreds of reviews out there and having another would be completely redundant. So restating the beginning yes I take him seriously, because he's being serious critiquing, not reviewing games.

no. if you took his reviews seriously you'd probably only own three or so games. Plus i have completely different preferences in genre from him and so he pretty much hates most things i would like.
That said, his reviews are still useful in that they point out a lot of flaws... you just have to decide for yourself whether you actually view them as flaws or if you don't care. You also have to keep in mind he never says anything good about a game.
For an actual review, i would go elsewhere.

Yahtzee's reviews are great for weeding out games that have a problem that you really can't stand in your games.

I played Dead Space before I saw his review, and it disappointed me in one major area alone: the atmosphere wasn't done right. I found it so bad that I was thinking about it almost the entire time I played. When I saw Yahtzee's review, and that he ragged on this one point throughout, I've taken his critiques quite seriously.

Any game that has bad atmosphere or a bad mechanic(s) that I can't stand (ex. Assassin's Creed), I can generally avoid and save myself some heartache. It is just important to understand that if you only buy games that Yahtzee likes, the only game you bought last year was Batman.

Just as seriously as any other reviewer. In the end I decide for myself if something is fun or not.

It may be mostly comedy but, as in life, comedians say what no one else will and in a way his reviews are more honest than what you get from other sources. I have played and liked some games he trashed but there's been more than a couple of times where his rants convinced me not to buy something because really, we gamers do put up with too much crap.

Yes, because he and i have alot of the same opinions, and even the ones i disagree on i see his side. like Clive barkers jericho for example, yeah its bland, annoying, poorly written, but hey i get some entertainment out of it.

His opinion is great because you ARENT exposed to a numerical value, meaning you should think about what he says and if its a game you would enjoy playing. He really comes off as the "mostly" unbiased reviewer. except to JRPGs, but one genre is excusable lol

you dont have to agree with him or any critic for that matter, but his opinion is still valid

not, really. i don't really care about what any reviewer says, unless it's something gigantic. most of it is just opinion. yahtzee can say a game is terrible, mediocre, and great but that doesn't mean that's how i feel.

i just watch it for giggles,

Yes, his rating system is the best. Which he says "a complex opinion can't be summed up numerically"
Yeah it's funny the two reviewers I watch (Yahtzee and Classic Game Room on youtube) don't simplify their ratings to a simple number or letter like most reviewers. I've seriously stopped paying attention to those who do use the number/letter system.

OT: I watch it mostly out of amusement but he does bring up a lot of points which I do take seriously because he's not just a swearing moron, he does know some things that I didn't pick up on. Does that mean I don't buy the games he hates? No I have a good chunk of them including Darksiders, Dead Space and Just Cause 2. Do I buy the games he recommends? Not really.

I do.

Once you strip away the penis jokes there is usually an excellent critique under there as well. Plus, penis jokes are awesome.

Yahtzee is a one-of-kind critic who strips all the games he reviews until he find there terrible little secrets that other critics would ignore some obvious some not so obvious. But for me that doesn't mean I have to take his reviews seriously sure he does have a point on most of the games he'd reviewed but there are some that I disagree with.

That said you he has given games a "good" review even though its against his nature, so watch his videos of a game you want to buy the worst thing is that he could spoil the ending of the said game. so stay in the Grey between "taking every word he has said came from god" to "that his reviews don't exist to me".

So what im saying is that i take his reviews seriously but so much that it puts me off a game that i don't want to play it anymore. And I take it in various degrees from game to game.

Please.. how many topics like this did we have during the last 3-4 years? Is it really that bothersome?

On topic though:
Sometimes.

Do I take him seriously... he is my source of Wednesday comedy who I think just may be an alien, yes, I completely trust, and agree with, his views and vow that I shall remain a virgin if I ever I disagree with him. If I took him seriously, it would be because someone drugged me.

Hasn't this thread been made loads now?

OT: I do listen to his opinion, I can't say I agree with him when he gets onto multiplayer.

He is for entertainment, not real reviews. I take his entertainment seriously tho, really, really, really, seriously.
it's not just what games he likes or doesn't, it's the actual critique of the games that is spot on for the most part. i don't think i've played any game that yahthhthhzhee has commented on where i haven't thought exactly the same about that part of the game. i do no revere him, however, as that would be ludicrous.

I take his reviews into serious consideration when buying a game. I, as he does, think all a game's good can be looked over if it has a few major flaws. The only game I liked that he did not was Dragon Age and I still had major gripes with it. I think people are too lenient and accept a bunch of garbage in their games instead of setting a higher standard.
so accepting a higher standard is doing what others tell you to do? that isn't a higher standard, that is enslavement.
Someday I'll be allowed to toss people like you into the bottomless pit. *sigh*... I have very similar tastes to him so more than often when he doesn't like a game I don't either. I still play many of the games he shits on, and I usually find that they are indeed sub-par. But seriously, go die somewhere :)

He's an entertainer and a critic, not a reviewer. Hence why he doesn't ever offer a scaling of how "good" or "bad" something is.

His overlooking of the good seems to be for one reason: Everyone else has already harped on the good points until they're stuck in your head. You need the opposition of the standard viewpoint to be able to look at something objectively.

Video-wise, I only take him seriously around half the time. Mainly because my personal taste in videogames is different than his. The extra punctuation columns are something that I do take great interest in, though.
I may be wrong but isn't a reviewer a critic? reviewers play games and then dissect their experiences with the games into bits of information which are then put into articles... like a critic does. Am I wrong?

No, he's much too biter and bias towards his personal tastes and hatred of multi-player, but his videos are funny and entertaining and I enjoy them.
As to being bias towards the tastes of the people who made the games? In fact I think you used bias improperly there, if not then it is definitely redundant.

He doesn't hate multiplayer, as he has stated half a dozen times he thinks that a game should hold its own in single player as well as it does int multiplayer.
