Imo, yathzees latest review has gooten so negative that it borders on not being fun to watch anymore. I disagree with many of his last ones (well everything in the PoP review was spot on). I know I shouldn't take anything seriously, but things are funny when its true. Even though I liked halo 3, I still thought he had some good points.

I doubt anyone would want to make a living reviewing things they didn't enjoy. It's like making a living reviewing Disney films.

I really don't think he dislikes games. He very much cares about how to make a game good and how to advance a game in the artform but I don't think he dislikes games. Some games do deserve the mediocre reviews he gives them as well. Though his show has stopped really being so much of a review any more and his jokes are getting played out. I'm now much more partial to Unskippable.

If you watch all the reviews of bad games, of course you'll think he hates everything. Saying good things isn't as funny nor entertaining as making fun of something that is bad. He's just used to the days when games were actually good.

And does there really need to be a new thread about this everytime the other one goes off the first page?

He just a very, very, very, very,......(5 hours later)....very, very, very, very, very pickey gamer. He's the kind of gamer that because of his high quality tastes, will point out the truth about a game that while we don't talk about between each other, we know exists.

I think it's because he plays games to have some good ole' fashioned mindless fun, not for a story or an engulfing experience. That's why he liked Painkiller so much.

True Dat
But more seriously,
Yahtzee says it himself in his Mail bag showdown or whatever:
"Yes I may be critical of a game, but I'm a critic"

He's a critic. It's his job to point out bad things. "I put my hands up he has me there. I do point out every thing that's bad about a game, but then, I'm a critic; it'd be weird if I didn't."

Umm...We are talking about the same guy right? There are a few games he said are worth getting because of the story if nothing else (psyconauts springs to mind).

Watching a random guy rant on mainstream games will almost always be more popular than a guy praising it. Especially when using humorous comparisons.

Yahtzee actually states in his Bioshock review:

"If my Psychoauts review taught me anything it's that nobody likes me when I'm being nice to a game..."

I think alot of people forget about the real reason of being a critic its to point at the good things, the bad, The great games, the horrible games, Its pointless reviewing all the obviously good games, with yahtzee he points out the flaws and good sides of EVERYTHING which makes him a great reviewer and critic ad he is also funny as hell, but that doesnt mean to say he hates video games if he hated games why would he be reviewing them?

It's kinda sad how people complain about Yahtzee's 'reviwing method', but it's obviouse no one would like him if he was nice about it. Besides, everything he says is right. There are hardly any worhtwhile games out these days in my opinion.

Look, all I do is ***** about how shit the film, game and music industries are. Seriously, ALL I do. This isn't because I hate films, games or music. It's because I love them and they're all now seen as nothing more than quick ways to make cash out of idiots.

Yahtzee (from an gaming point) is NOT one of the stupid people who spends £40 on a game because either;
A-It's got realistic graphics and shiny colours
B-The advert on TV told him to, or
C-He feels if he doesn't join in on this week's Xbox Live gang bang, he will be uncool.

At least Yahtzee brings some passion to the table with his reviews\opinion. Something 99% of "critics" and most modern gamers DO NOT. Constructive Criticism is so rare these days. Mags and TV reviews consist of "Best game this year!", although the reviewer has said the same thing about 5 other games this month and is just awaiting his big fat pay cheque. Payola Scandal anyone?

Most gamers today are happy with some tits, a protagonist built like The Rock (because it's better than remembering you're scrawny and weak) and the thing we ALL tried to avoid at school......physics. Easily amused by generic crap but are quick to jump down the throat of anyone playing something that hasn't been dry humped into the category of "Cool Game" or "Hardcore Game".

So yeah, go Yahtzee....he sickens all of those who sicken me.

I believe Yahtzee loves video games of quality and substance, that's all. In the words of Ego (from Ratatouille) 'If I don't love the food, I don't swallow', so why swallow what you don't like?

I've been beaten by few people already...

He's not an asslicker or a GameSpot reviewer.

He's a critic. His job is not to like everything. Quite contrary, critics usually... crap at stuff.

Here's my two sense.

Yes he's a critic, he's paid to critique games as much as he likes but I would like a little bit more of a balance between his criticisms and the things that are good about the games, yes he touches on them, but I think it should be more balanced. Otherwise it could rob someone out of purchasing a game that they could quite enjoy, as, lets face it, he holds sway with some (not all) game purchasers.

Personally I reckon he should review his own games (in particular the Chzo Mythos series), since that would be quite interesting :) (idea if your reading this, Ben). However, some people have a point, HE IS A CRITIC!!!!! Yahtzee isn't there to say each game is good. Games that are good but still have huge flaws (e.g. Assassin's Creed) he says this. Although I disagree with some of his comments, games that I love and he doesn't I can still see those flaws when I play. Yahtzee is truthful and just doing his job, is the point I'm trying to make here.
