I find he does seem to polarise games as either hevanly goodness or the foul effuluance of satan's hounds. I really dissaprove of how he's rated a couple of games (Halo 3 and EVE included) and didn't take multiplayer into account. I will admit on its own Halo 3's single player storyline is a bit short etc. But what keeps people playing it is the matchmaking, custom games and forge. All of which he completly neglected to mention.
THAT I will agree with, me and my stepbro have had a great time on the multiplayer. But as a gamer, I think single player is = important.

Multiplayer is an addition, not a subsitute.

I disaprove of how he bashes Halo 3 without giving any credible reason, the story seemed basic to him as he did not play the backstory, the gameplay was average only because he didn't realise that the first Halo revolutionised the formula, and because he only played one part of it he has no right to complain about how the game had 'so little'

That said I find the man to be very funny and I respect him.
I got to disagree because I played the previous Halo games and although 1 was good 2&3 were serious let downs because the story was severly shortened (I don't have XBL), the weapons got worse, and as a side effect of the game series itself it made the player characters stop being able to carry all of the weapons in the game and reduced it down to sniper rifle and whatever.
Halo: CE was by far the best in the series gameplay wise. The fact that Halo 2 was a severe let down for some shows the side effects of a game released when it really wasn't ready (it had many delays until it was pushed for a release date, which was a shame). However, there were a few good things about it, such as the Battle Rifle and the shield bar with no health, as well as some of the missions became rather iconic (boarding the Scarab in Metropolis). Halo 3 was mediocre, in my opinion, the missions felt rather standalone, seperate scenarios, they did not feel as though the Master Chief was going between places, but more just doing seperate objectives for a new mission.

In response to the only two guns rule, it shows how he can only physically carry two guns at a time. Sure, some people can carry a few more side weapons, but would it really seem real if you could carry every weapon on the battlefield?

EDIT: And multiplayer was where Halo 2 succeeded best, with the introduction of Xbox Live Online Multiplayer Matchmaking (I don't know whether many other games did it at the time of this genre).

I mainly watch yahtzee for entertainment a review of his wouldn't stop me getting a game i liked the look of, Having played prince of persia i'd say he was way off the mark in his review of it and i loved the sands of time.

I bought physconaughts purely on the basis of his review and it did not disappoint. I also have many of the games he reviews like Halo and Bioshock and, while I did notice some of the issues he brought up, I think the level of criticism was a bit to high and slightly undeserved.
Although I do love his reviews and what he says is true he just exagerates a little.

I'm pretty sure Yahtzee says something along the lines of if you like a game it really shouldn't matter what other people say... (Mailbag Showdown anyone...).

A few points:

I generally agree with his points on games that I have played as well. I thought his RE5 review was one of the most spot-on I had ever seen. His "Psychonauts" review drove me to get a copy of the game (as well as a few other Lucasfilm Games classics) and his praise of the PoP Trilogy has led me to jump back into those games, which I missed out on as I was deep in college and had very little time for gaming at the time (other than the occasional drug-induced Halo fest.)

As far as him being "off" with the Halo 3 review because he hadn't played the first 2, I think that some games do rely too much on the assumption that a player has delved through the previous ones. A game like Halo 3 maybe can get away with it because it was so popular that probably > 90% of those who played 3 played at least one of the previous ones. But for lesser known titles, at least a basic outline of what happened previously would be nice. For example, I rented Killzone and Saint's Row 2 without playing either of their prequels, and I had little to no idea as to what the hell was going on. Granted, I could just go on Wikipedia and get a synopsis of the previous game's plot, but I'd rather have a produced presentation about what has transpired before instead of reading what essentially is a video game "book report."

I haven't flat out disagreed with any reviews he's done, or at least not understood his view on a game that I had a differing opinion on. I understood how he could dislike SSBB (as my cousins who I played it with shared the exact same views when I brought it to them, and I had unlocked almost everyone at the time) as well as disliking JRPGs, fighting games, and Nintendo's constant reuse of old IPs. The only thing I'll never concede is that MadWorld, as it was made, would have been better off on a system OTHER than the Wii.

Ugh... I think his shows are entertaining but I wouldn't want to use them as proper reviews. I looked into POP:SoT because of his review, it was alright but the sequels sucked. I also bought the Orange Box based on his review. Good buy. Other then that, I take his opinions as more satire then review. Also, no one seems to realize that his reviews are given by a persona and not the actual person.

I bought Psyconauts just because he told me to, and I never laughted that hard while playing a game before or after that.

I also like Spiderman 2 for its webswinging..

Why do people think Halo 3 should have a standalone plot? It's Halo 3. The third game in the trilogy. It's pretty obvious that it's gonna be picking up plot points from the previous two games.

Honestly, that's like watching Return of the Jedi and complaining that it didn't spend 20 minutes recapping everything that happened in the Empire Strikes Back.
Umm... Contradicting yourself much? Seriously, Return of the Jedi continues the overall story, but ALSO works great as a standalone title. Aparently, Halo 3 doesn't...

Anyway, he is not bashing the series, just that one installment/title/episode (choose what fits your state of fanboyism).
Now, I haven't played Halo 2 or 3, but I can't say I saw anything that great in Halo 1, so I haven't bothered with it.

As for Yahtzee's reviews, I find them hilarious, extremely entertaining and HIS PERSONAL OPINION! I don't let anyone tell me what to wear, eat or think, so I don't let anyone tell me what to like either. On the other hand, the games he's reviewed that I've actually played, he's been scarily right on my own opinion, except as others mentioned, Mirror's Edge. Great fun!
I disagree if people came into Star Wars at VI they'd be confused. Who's this guy they're rescuing, who's that ghosty guy, what's the deal with the weird talking muppet, WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE THOSE TEDDY BEARS! Oh wait...that's everyone's reaction to the ewoks =P

Please, stop making Yahtzee threads, like someone recently said, you're preaching to the converted. Talk about him on other sites, it will bring more people here.

Well I tend to take all reviews with a grain of salt as it is, but I don't really watch his reviews for an actual opinion, I watch them for the humor. I liked his older reviews anyway. The ones where he used actual songs for the intro and conclusion, that one aspect alone was part of the uniqueness and charm for me. (I know he can't do that anymore with the whole copyright issue, but that's just how I feel)

A few of his opinions are obviously biased being a PC gamer and all. But what are you gonna do? There were a couple things I felt that he was bashing just for the sake of bashing. The Darkness review was a little harsh, but I guess that's to be expected when reviewing a demo. I myself was very pleased with the final product. His opinion of Thief III was a little disappointing, but that's the beauty about having an opinion, I guess. I'm not gonna bash the guy for for disagreeing with me.

For the most part most of his comments are very true, ex: The Mako in Mass Effect handling like a fat man on a unicycle... genius.

... Flame on!!

So you mean you have to play the previus games to appreciate halo 3? How that's about as bad as MGS4.

Saints row 2. I knew no one could say anything about that game except for the minigames
