I'd first like to point out that this threads main focus isn't Yaoi. Anyone can have whatever fetish they want, it's not important. But rather the trend of Yaoi fangirls to be very loud and open to discussion about there fetish. Congregating in groups, clubs and even conventions surrounding it.

Is it just me or does anyone else find this weird?

Maybe it's a girl thing unrelated to Yaoi in particular. Or perhaps a lot of guys do it and I'm the strange one. I just don't see a conversation between me and my buds starting along the line of, "So I was jerking off to this awesome porn last night".

I think it's slightly weird and probably a sign of low self esteem when a straight girl's idea of the best relationship involves two guys.

Um, I did say it wasn't about the yaoi but rather how the people who like it create groups, clubs and conventions around it. I thought my first two sentences brought across pretty clearly that it wasn't about the fetish it self but rather the group surrounding it.

I do find it sort of weird that they do that, yes.

I wasn't really aware that they did, though.

In their defense, I think most yaoi has better storylines than most porn. And yaoi isn't straight out porn anyways; it's just stories about boys/men in love. Or so I think.

I wouldn't say it is much weirder than people forming clubs around Twilight. Or Romeo and Juliet for that matter. Only difference would be that the yaoi fangirls form clubs around a story where the characters are homosexual.
Come to think of it, they do embrace the entire genre, not just one work. So I guess, the simile doesn't stand.
It would be more like if they formed a club around romantic films.

Edit: I might want to clarify. If my post made it sound like I read, watch yaoi: I do not.

Well I had no clue what the hell this was until I just googled it.

Honestly, who gives a fuck? Me, and many other men have fetishes or at least a general appreciation of female on female. It's something that's been portrayed everywhere. Even just yesterday I saw some video in a thread here, with Samus vs Halo soldier and at the end they both get in their skin suits and... well, it looks kinky but they don't actually "do" anything more than hold hands.

Anyway about the groups, well, ok that's a bit odd. I don't think I've ever seen a public group of men about lesbian art/pics/movies etc. I mean, I'm sure it's appreciated, but more of a behind closed doors thing. I'm thinking if men held a convention purely based around girl on girl action there would probably some feminist group uprising.

I've seen this behaviour in various UK anime conventions and while it can be a little cute-but-tiring-when repeated type high pitched squeals now and again I've nothing against them whatsoever.
From my experience they haven't leaped out at me and begged me to join their interests or force any particular viewpoints on to me so I generally don't mind them. Sure it's different but I don't get creeped out by it really.
In fact it's good in one respect as they can enjoy the freedom of having such interests and passions that would be outlawed within other locations and societies

I find it weird as well. Not the Yaoi, but the whole "festivities" they have about it. Then again this pretty much happens with almost everything else, which I also find odd.

But I really don't mind any of them, as long as they don't bother me.

It is kinda weird to me but hey, its their thing not mine.
Besides, when people find other people who share their interests they tend to flock to each other and discuss their interests.
Same things happens with Movies, Video Games, and Books.

I just don't get Yaoi Parrings and the fangirls who INSIST that its actually Cannon.

Two guys say hi to each other and suddenly its proof that they want to bone each other?
And honestly iv only ever seen it taken to this extreme with Yaoi Fans.

I'm not really bothered by them, UNLESS:
-They are against the law
-They are just plain disgusting
(-They make other people feel uncomfortable)

I just figured it was because girls are weird. Well the short of it anyway. I don't really feel like explaining in-depth.

What I find creepy is their tendency to stick every fictional (and sometimes non-fictional) male character in the entire history of the Universe into some sort of explicit yaoi relationship.

Meh, people are weird and we are all different. Many will like different things. If it just happens to be yaoi then I'm fine with that. It could be weirder.

Probably, though I always imagine the two girls being bisexual.
But it does seem that girls find two guys more romantic, looking good together and devoted the fact they're purely gay. Whereas guys imagine two girls purely for sex.

What about people who play video games?
We like to hang out with-eachother and have all our own in jokes and so on.
Who would you like it if people were saying that we are wierd for doing that?
I never said the people them selves were weird just the Idea of of creating a gathering or social group based around it. It's just a small opinion, not meant to offend anybody.

The main question was are there other types of porn that attract this kind of following? Do people join "girls gone wild" clubs? I'm not trying to insult or demean anyone, I'm just wondering if only Yaoi has this kind of fan base.

True enough. I did say there's nothing wrong with having whatever fetish they want. Just wondering if people who like say, S&M, or whatever, have thing kind of community.

no! it's more like a Roman fantasy than a Greek fantasy...
