So long as you don't smoke where your not supposed to (like inside a hospital) and you're not rude about it, I'm fine with it. I will say that it's not a very healthy thing to do though and there are better ways to kill boredom.

Don't worry, you're not the devil, you're just Hitler NO, BAD ME!

I don't really have a problem with smokers, so long as they're polite about it (Like you seem to be), and show some self control while in other people's homes/businesses I'm fine with them. The only real 'problem' I have is that I find smokers extremely unattractive (which is a problem with me not them), that smell just... just no.
True story: The Third Reich was one of the first governments, and the first major government, to outlaw smoking inside government buildings.

So, yeah, smoking is worse than Nazism, right?
Thank you for this history lesson, but do you realize that I was joking, or are you the type who feels the need to shit on other people's jokes over insignificant mistakes?

Something that I find interesting is that if you see someone smoking a cigarette, most people think "what an idiot, they're going to give themselves cancer" or something along those lines, but when you see someone smoking a pipe, a typical response is closer to "what an utter legend". It has the same consequences, but for some reason, smoking a pipe is just much more awesome.

Just going to put it out there that no, no you don't look like a legend, more along the lines of "oh that old man is smoking a pipe, he must have some interesting stories" or "the hell is that kid smoking a pipe for? He isn't 70".

Smoking around me can cause my poor, horrible lungs to seize.

I only dislike people who notice that I stop breathing as I walk past them smoking and get all in my face about it. You have a half-decent chance of killing me, so let me get past you!
Yeah, this.

What pisses me off is the inconsiderate people who are all 'Blabla deal with it it doesn't affect you at all', when every single fucking time I walk past someone smoking in the street I double over coughing my lungs out, and have to reach for my asthma pump, while the smoker in question gives me a dirty look for being inconvenienced by their fucking selfishness.

And to all the people saying 'deal with it, it's a public space', what the hell are you talking about?! If by 'public' you mean 'shared', then what right do you have to make me ill just so you get your nicotine kick? Do it on your own time, in your own space, but don't ruin my poor, asthmatic lungs because you can't wait for your daily dose of cancer.

EDIT: Just for clarification, if you're gonna smoke while alone then knock yourself out, but just be damn considerate when you're walking around town! If you do this then fine, but if you don't...

Well, you can fully expect a scathing glare, and a tut - a fucking tut - if you have me projecting my innards all over the pavement.

I don't smoke myself (and I don't mean that in the way where I wrap myself in paper, light my hair on fire and suck on my feet), but to be honest, I kinda like the smell of cigars and pipes. They smell so... homely. Which is odd, since neither of my parents smoke. Cigarettes smell like rubbish though. I don't really mind being around smokers either, they're often some of the nicer chaps I know. So not a single bad word about smokers from me.

Smoke all day, every day, and don't give a fuck.
"Ah the Chris Farley method."

Moderation is the key 4 cigarettes a day probably would do much harm. Probably stain your teeth over time, but they make stuff for that now.
Been working in a hospital for 3.5 years it's usually the pack or more a day people that end up with lung problems and even then they're from the older no filer generation.

I don't care if you sit there and kill yourself even faster. Its fine with me. People going about telling other people how to live their lives annoy me. As long as you aren't interrupting their lives, you're fine.
Second hand smoke is a thing, you know.

An estimated 46,000 deaths from heart disease in people who are current non-smokers
About 3,400 lung cancer deaths as a result of breathing SHS
Worse asthma and asthma-related problems in up to 1 million asthmatic children
Between 150,000 and 300,000 lower respiratory tract infections in children under 18 months of age, and lung infections resulting in 7,500 to 15,000 hospitalizations each year
http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/CancerCauses/TobaccoCancer/secondhand-smoke

So yes. If you smoke, you're a terrible person and you should feel terrible. If you smoke around other people, well, look above. If you smoke by yourself, then cancel your health insurance. I don't pay taxes so that they can go treat people with self-inflicted lung cancer and other bullshit.

Well, I do, but I don't want to. At all.
You are aware that second hand smoke is something you worry about, ONLY if someone you know smokes all the time while you're around, right? You can't get cancer or anything from passing someone smoking on the subway.

Are your lungs and sinuses that fucking sensible to cigarette smoke? Even when I was a nonsmoker I didn't have as much trouble with cigarette smoke as some of the people in this thread have. Honestly though, I'm fine with smoking being banned in public as long as the government builds smoking designated areas. Smokers also pay taxes and in fact pay way more taxes than non smokers so we should at the very least be given a compromise.

Also, no smoking in bars? Really? Are you folk going to start telling people what to do with their private property now? It's no different than banning smoking in your own goddamn house.

"sure, i enjoy cocaine weekly, but then these arrogant 'morality police' offend me by comparing me to convict, boo-hoo"

cry me a river, smelly. you're helping unjust industries which destroy the soil of farmlands across the world, including my home, virginia, that could be used to make more food and lower food costs for poor people. also, if you live in a country with free healthcare, you're a drain upon society's resources. You destroy cars' and homes' value by permanently stinking the place up, and, on a related note, you smell.

Yup. Straight up ruining traditionalist values, you. Not to mention killing your body, alongside delicious foods, minor radiations, and tourists. Pass a light, would you?

Hey, if you want to stink like shit, be my guest.

I like to think that Charles Darwin personally blesses every single cigarette sold.

Also, nothing can taste 'eloquent', that's just bloody ridiculous.

Second hand smoke is nothing compared to people who spread germs by coughing, sneezing, and sniveling in public. Alcohol causes far more destruction to society then tobacco ever will.

I think smoking is a terrible habit, but only with cigarettes. Cigars are fine with me. The act isn't bothersome as long as you don't breathe it on others or act like the cool guy in town. I would never smoke cigarettes because I think they're gross, nothing moral at all to it.

In short, you're not the devil.

Also...I've seen this thread so many times.

Language evolves all the time, this metaphor is applied more often to wine than tobacco:

"2006 Eloquence Late Harvest Chardonnay"
http://www.raymondvineyards.com/2006EloquenceLateHarvestChardonnay

"Scrio 2007 was the most eloquent wine of the trio that day..."
http://www.thewinecellarinsider.com/wine-topics/bordeaux-wine-varietals-bolgheri/

"A sexy, masculine, and eloquent wine..."
http://thewinewitch.blogspot.com/2011/11/columbia-winery-merlot-07.html

But there is nothing wrong with that since everyone who is brainwashed by TV knows alcohol = sexy + fun + cool and tobacco is the devil.
