I used to only play on easy mode, but I made the switch to Normal, because I've started getting used to the challenge.

That said, the last time I sacrificed challenge for fun was in Catherine.

Damn, Atlus. I like to think I have a mind for puzzles, but damn.

Only if I'm very new to the genre, and need to know how everything works. Otherwise I stick to normal. I think I've only ever turned the difficulty down once, in DA:O, The Fade.

I usually play on normal for most games except for turn-based RPGs because I'm not that good at them or I need to get used to the combat system.

Saints Row 2. - It's just more fun if you don't have to look after yourself so much - then again, it really isn't hard on hard either, is it?
but I often rather choose normal over hard, because I really get frustrated fast, and I want fun, not anger.

I played through ODST yesterday on easy just to go through the story again. I love me some pseudo-film-noir

Well it really depends on the kind of experience you want.
I know my first playthrough of every game is set on Easy, because I like to enjoy the story and such. Then I switch to a higher difficulty if there is any replay value. But some people are not like that, which is fine and which is why there are different levels of difficulty.

I used to be all about the challenge but now, I just want to lay back and enjoy my game.

I always play hard, if its a FPS or RTS I try to go as hard as possible, unless the AI gets stupid or unfair advantages on the hardest settings (Total War I'm looking at you).

But in Call of Duty, Halo, I always go for the hardest difficulty.

Easiest on the first playthrough, hardest on the second playthrough and back to easiest on any subsequent playthroughs.

And that's why you're a genius! If I want to play a game, I don't want to be ripping my hair out.
There are certain games where difficulty can make it more fun, but not a lot.

I always do this. It will always be more fun to drive a car off a fourty story building landing on a hot dog stand than it will be to run errends. I also said F those guys in GTA IV, I don't see why people are complaining, I just ignored them. I didn't have to do one unmandatory cousin thing. *shrug*

In pretty much every game I play. I normally start out with Easy or Normal mode, attempting the harder settings for when I've completed the game(if I'm after achivements/trophies).
I don't play games for a challenge, I play for enjoyment.

Hard mode pisses me off.

I play games for funzies and fuckingshitupzies :3

I don't think you can use the phrase, "sacrificing challenge for fun" with regards to Atlus games on easy. More like trading brain bustingly, bone crushingly impossible for something challenging AND fun.

I'll usually play games on normal or hard depending on whether or not they're actually challenging. The previously mentioned exception being Atlus games where I'll default to Easy because Atlus tends to have a messed up view of what constitutes an easy difficulty setting. If it turns out they actually weren't lying I'll usually either change it or set it higher on a second playthrough, but I can't think of any times that's been the case yet.

Games that are designed to be open world with no real reason to do anything but goof off is the incentive for easy mode for me, like your example.

Linear games, like Call of Duty (Or other FPS's), have to be played on Casual or higher for me because there are often more checkpoints and shorter levels, so no penalty for failing.

Now if i'm playing a linear game that incurages multiple types of play, I will play through a couple times on easy or medium to work out elaborate strategies for my later playthroughs. (Like Crysis 2 or Uncharted 2)

True for me, as well.

Also, sometimes it's like: "I'm fucking Batman! Why should 4 of Joker's henchmen be able to take me out?! Jeezus, I should be able to do better than this!"

When given the option, I always choose easy mode. It's just how I prefer to play. If I'm really, REALLY into a particular game then I'll try out the higher difficulties.

I play games to relax and unwind. Putting thigns to max difficulty isn't helping.
Normally I start out on Normal. If I wanna dick around I put it to easy, or when I feel like putting some effort into it, hard or higher. Depends on the mood I suppose.

Though I have the nagging issue of doing things on hardest when completed (I.e. Ninja Gaiden for the xbox x3)
