Also, my dog in Dragon Age. He's a party member so he can't die like Horsey (From RDR above). But whenever someone started attacking my dog, I would drop everything and I'd go help him. I knew the others could take care of themselves and they didn't really care about the dog. After all, he was MY pet. So that left me to look after my pal. And that I did.
Pretty much this. That dog has to be the greatest digital pet of all time.

I'd also say that I get ridiculously attached to my car when I play any of the Saints Row or GTA games. The way I play those games is I'll randomly steal cars until I find that one that just seems to drive perfectly. From that moment on, for a reason I still don't understand, I will refuse to use any other vehicle. It just wouldn't feel right.

For me I always get attached to the first bird Pokemon I catch in every Pokemon game I play. For example Pidgey, Tailow, Starly and Pidove. I keep these Pokemon from the very start till the end and I don't know why. There's just something about them that makes me not want to get rid of them. They are like my Pikachu, they never leave my side.

The TMP resident evil 4. Every guide may tell me not to get one, but my god this guys has seen me through tough times, letting me cripple hordes of villagers at long range before going in for the shotgun based kill...such a team.

I find that whenever I play Halo I'm always trying to protect the marines. Since I play on Heroic, they die pretty easily and I guess I just feel sorry for them. I've made it to the end of sections, accidentally killed one, then reloaded a save because I couldn't live with the guilt.

That sounds like an awesome name for something

When I played Red Dead Redemption it was at the height of that whole 'I Own A Horse' troll meme. You know the one.

Anyway, I'm generally kind of a crap person so I named my horse Connection Issues. And I loved him, I did.

Then one day, Connection Issues took a hilariously and tragically misguided leap from a high and rocky Mexican cliff. John Marston survived the impact. Connection Issues did not.

Another notable example of a game character I've become attached to is Lydia, my eternally-faithful housecarl, who broke my heart when she was slewn by Falmer.

Seriously fuck Falmer. All of them.

The RDR horses are great for stories.
I lost my trusty steed after whistling for it. I had just cleared a gang hideout and released the cows. My horse came and landed right in front of me after a 10m fall. It was the sidewinder gulch if i remember the name right.

Since this was pretty early ingame our relationship was over before it begun. It was never the same again.

Agh that stallion...

I accidentally shot it in the head. It was running around panicking while I shot at some dudes and then it crossed into my shot and died to a headshot from my pistol! I finished the fight...

THEN THE FUCKING GAME AUTOSAVED!!!

Nooooooo!! Mah horsie!!! :(

Red dead redemption, i honestly never wanted to play it just because horses can die. so i played it once at a friends house, was happily trotting along with my horsey pal and BAM got hit by a cougar in this really pretty forest place and my horse died, i thought you could heal it or somthing and i accidentally skinned my horse! i was so sad i made my character walk over a cliff and he still didnt die before being mauled by the cougar ....lmfao my friend who had been playing the game for weeks had said she's never seen that happen ever before....what luck i have :( ...seeing my skinned horsey friend will scar me forever and i refuse to play that game again. . .even though it looks so fun

That Shadow kid from twilight princess. I don't know why but I felt instantly attached to her because I just dug her dark yet somehow cheerful attitude and when the decision came for her to show where her true loyalties lied I was like, "NOOOooooo!" and was legitimately worried about her survival!

in my inventory I ended up with a "wedding ring" it didnt do anything, it was just there, I dont know if I sold it eventually but I held onto it, even though it was clear my charachter wasnt keen on my arraged fiance..it was to remember him I guess
Yeah, now that you mention it, I did the same thing, except I was a Male human. When my character's castle-thing got attacked, my character's mother gave me a key to open the armory. I grabbed a shield with the family crest in it or something. Then everyone died.

I always kept it as a memento of that happening. I never used it because a while after that, I started getting better shields. But I kept it anyway.

I have a similar horse story. Frost in Skyrim.

I loved him from the moment I went to steal him from the Black-Briar Estate. I told Louis to shove it and kept Frost for myself. From that point on, I tried to be as careful as I could, trying to not let him get hurt and/or die. So, when going to retrieve a kajit's amulet, I left Frost in cover, well away from the fort I had to enter. after maybe an hour inside the fort, being unable to figure out how to get to the amulet (the questmarker kept 'helpfully' telling me that I had to get to the top of the tower, of which I couldn't find the way to enter it.), so I decided 'screw it' and went off for my horse to leave. He wasn't where I left him though. I searched and searched, and to my dismay, I found him dead, stuck with at least 20 arrows. I was heartbroken. To make matters worse, my last hard save was more than four hours prior, and all my autosaves were of me either entering or exiting the fort recently.
So, I reloaded my last hardsave and lost all that progress, but still more upset that I had let Frost down.

In RDR, the second a horse was acting up a little too much for my tastes, I would get off and shoot it in the head with a shotgun. If I really got mad, I would purposely ride to the part of the map with cougars and ride in circles until my horse got eaten out from under me. Horses in particular drive me nuts.

On the other hand, in Skyrim, I found the dog in the abandoned cabin (Peeko?) and forged a bond by helping him fight off a couple giant spiders who were hanging around his place. I invited him along with me and went off into a nearby barrow. In the very first fight with a few draugrs, Peeko died. It might have been from an errant spell by me to be honest, but he was full dead instead of Lydia kneeling for a few seconds and shaking it off. I couldn't handle that so I reloaded to the beginning of the barrow and sent the poor dog home. I couldn't bear to take responsibility for the death that would surely come to the dog fighting the dragon.

In 99% of JRPGs, death is a minor annoyance that might occur a dozen times against tougher fights, but in the Persona games, I always took death very seriously. That might partly be due to the MC death=game over system, but the way that teammates would shove me out of the way of hits and sometimes die for me, or that they would be doing so well only to be cut down by an unexpected Mudo spell, it just drove me nuts whenever it happened. Sure, casting Recarm is just as easy as using a Phoenix Down, but I never got mad for all the times Barret fell down on the job.

I personally wasn't attached to it, but in my Fallout 3, whenever the I left vault 101, I took the bb gun my dad gave me. Now I have a house in Megaton and in one of the lockers is the bb gun. It's not worth anything, it does me no good, but I know that if that were really me, I wouldn't sell that bb gun no matter what.

And then just about any pet in any game. If you get to have a horse, dog...um...any other animal that I'm not thinking of right now... I take care of it like it was real in any way I can. Does it need to be fed? Best food I can get it! Are we going somewhere dangerous? You stay far away from the danger, I'll be back soon.

Remember the varen on Tuchanka in ME2? When I found out you could give it pyjack meat, I did, and let it follow me. I don't know why but I loved that Varen and wished I could have bought it and brought it on the normandy with me.

Fallout 1 i got attached to the original dogmeat. That dog you could get by wearing a leather jacket(which made you kind of look like Mel Gibson in the road warrior.) or by feeding it some kind of meat. That dog had insane movement and insane attacks. If he died I reloaded the game. Almost everytime. Fallout 2 it was Sulik. That crazy smg wielding tribal was amazing if you put him on berserk. Fallout 3...Hunting rifle and Fawkes. He once took a tumble off a bridge. died on impact. I turned the game off. In New vegas it was Boone. He just sort of fit my style.
Mass Effect 2 and 3. Agreed with someone above me. The Space Hamster. Who I did name Boo in honor of the animal companion of Minsc.I think when I started on ME3 I must of searched that ship for hours before I gave up and went online. Was the only thing I looked for in a walkthrough of that game :p
