Probably freak out and cry. I play one peaceful mode since all I like to do it build things and a creeper showing up under those circumstances would be nightmare inducing.

I put logs down in front of my doors and set them on fire at night, as well as a log-parameter around any strong hold I build, which is constantly on fire.

Have you played 1.3? Logs seem to burn up really quickly now, which means I can't stand and look out upon the remnants of a fire-stricken forest any more, because all the trees disappear...
