Replace the turn based/strategic combat system with a Devil May Cry style action system. Or at least a Star Ocean:TTEOT style combat system.

Come on! Let me use those fancy analog sticks for something other than navigating menus!

Down a very deep well, or failing that, Narnia.

Make it mass effect except all the characters are girls, or look a lot like a girl, and the main character doesn't get a gun, he gets a sword (and a chocobo).

In other words just replace the whole cast with Blood Elves?

Well, I would not make a FFXV for 10-15 years or until the company is in dire financial straights. It would be an "in case of emergency, break glass" deal.

This will be a complete nostalgia trip for all the people that played all the Final Fantasy's since the NES days. It would be pure fan service, complete with references that only die hard final fantasy players would understand.

Other than modern graphics and an orchestral score, it would be as old school as they come, with random encounters, cutscenes that take 30 minutes to watch, logic puzzles that are explained as you go through them, and grandiose melodramatic characters.

The plot would be you start as resistance to an evil empire and, unlike Western RPG's where you stop after overthrowing said empire, you go all the way and kill God.

It would also have levels: No Materia, no Junction system, no Sphere Grid, no License Board, no Crystarium system. You start at level 7 or 8 and you keep going until you reach level 99. You know, the thing Yahtzee complains about JRPGs having, but never appeared in a proper final fantasy since 9.

The main quest would be 60 hours long, but the side quests would tack on an additional 60 hours.

Characters would have one job and that is it. There will be none of this mage in name only after you break enough locks like in FFX, or classless characters like in FFXII. A character begins life as a thief and remains a thief throughout the entire story. There would be the typical ones: White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Fighter, etc. There would also be some based on specific classes from other Final Fantasy games.

Special features would be a ton of mini games along the lines of you having to play though several minigames that copy the art style, the game play mechanics, and the cliff notes of a previous Final Fantasy game. There would be 6 of these completely optional games, each one completely optional, but would add 6-10 hours of game play to this monster. Each one of these mini games would unlock a series of unique items from the game they were emulating.

The summons would also be fan service. There would be the typical ones like Shiva, Ramuh, and so on, but there would also be new ones that are based on Final Fantasy Characters: You have a 3 sisters knock off that is Yuna, Rikku, and Pain from FFX-2. There would be a 4 Swordsmen deal, where Cloud, Squall, Cyan, and Tidus taking turns slicing through the enemies and it ends with all three of them doing a signature move, Cyan does a quad slice, Cloud does his ommnislash, Squall uses his gunsword and makes one final shot while Tidus does his blitzball strike. Another one might be a needle attack, where Kain and Freya take turns poking holes into the enemy. Hell go nuts with it: Tifa and Sabin take turns beating the ever loving stupid out of an opponent, Lock and Zidane come in and steal something.

So yeah, FFXV would be complete Fan service.

Keeping all the little things that appear in each one, Chocobos etc. Thats a staple link to make it feel FFish

I would base it however on a universe where time keeps changing, so one day you'd go to sleep (in the game) and wake up in a medievil world, the next day you wake up to a futuristic sci fi adventure, I would make it based on a fictional Universe where time is always in flux for 1 character and when he meets comrades he is able to allow them to travel with him in the flux.

I'd forcefully rehire Nobuo Uematsu. He made some of the best soundtracks for anything ever.
Pretty much this, Hell just hand it over to Mistwalker, they aren't doing anything and Lost Odyssey was a love letter to the FF series.

If I couldn't do that just make it more steam-punk and make Cid a pirate who rides a giant mechanical Choccobo. Make it an affectionate parody, throw in some fourth wall breaking jokes, make the older FF protagonists summons.Keep it turn-based ATB and that's about it, I'll get some people to fill in the blanks.

That's right. Square Enix has hired you to oversee the fifteenth entry in the regular series. So what kind of game do you want to make it? Hundreds of men and women await your command. ; P
The series would best be taken in the same direction as most Western RPGs. I would give it a branching storyline like those found in the Bioware games. In fact, a Bioware game would make a perfect template for a Final Fantasy game if I were to take it in this direction. A Final Fantasy world codex would be great and companion quests would help you to get to know them better. Non-linear dialogue and a morality system would also be great additions. But, unlike Bioware, we need to have a story that is not inherantly good. If you choose to be evil, you should be doing completely different things during the course of the game. Your choices along the way should decide where you will be heading for the rest of the game.

I would be fine keeping the turn-based (sort of) combat. I would, however, have my animators add in a large variety of attack and damage animations. To put it simply, I would make the combat look more realistic, rather than the same repetitive animations. Battles themselves would be shorter, but sweeter. All of that together would help remove the grind associated with Final Fantasy.

I would hire good voice actors too. >>; I would also try to come up with some interesting characters. Not to say Final Fantasy never had interesting characters, on the contrary it certainly did, but now they're too much the same between games. Perhaps we could even go Bioware's way again and let them make their own character.

If I could direct the rest of the series, I would also start making games as direct sequels, much in the way FFX and FFX-2 worked together. This would finally give the series a proper story and setting that people will really care about. I think it would also increase sales of the game if I were able to write a good story for FFXV.

The sad part is, this would really kill what FF has always been about, and I am certain a lot of avid fans of the series would be pissed. Maybe these innovations could be added slowly instead of all at once so as not to anger them.

Pretty much what was said here, but take it one step further and hand the whole thing over to Bioware and tell them to use the Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age/Mass Effect/KOTOR formula

I would call it: Final Fantasy XV: Final Fantasy XI
I would basically remake number 9 with next-gen graphics. And I wouldn't have any fucking voice actors! They were so much better when you read all the text IMO.
