In my opinion if you exclusivley play an MMO you cannot be a gamer.

Same goes for only JRPG's (EG: your entire collection of games is final fantasy)

I'd like some reasoning behind this. My opinion is that no matter who you are, as long as you play some sort of electronic game, you're a gamer. If you are a twitching, 'nade spammin' curb stomper, then you're debatly more of a gamer than the guy who plays Bejewled on his iPhone. But what the frak, MMO'ers aren't gamers? I see no reason behind that, and until you supply some, I would have to thnk you're pretty assumptious(yeah, no, I'm pretty sure that's not a word).

I've had people tell me i'm not a real gamer because I like to use cheats when I get stuck... Which is ridiculous really...

The definition of gamer is someone who plays games a lot. Thats pretty much it! Saying someone isn't a gamer because of any reason other than "because you DONT play games a lot" is silly really.

MMO's.... Like I said if it's the only game you play you can't be a gamer... I just think they are time sinks. Sure they have the elements of the game but grinding isn't a game...

JRPG's are too much like Mathematics for me...

You're not a gamer if... you decide that you can apply arbitrary labels to people, turning them off from the notion of gaming in the first place. If you play Half Life, you are a gamer, if you play Peggle, you are a gamer. It all supports the industry.

Although I hate to bring religion into threads, it is the best example I can think of off the top of my head to counter this. Some people believe that to a follower of a religion you simply have to follow the beliefs, where other people believe you have to physically go to church.

Point being, it is subject to opinion. If all else, try to think of this as a fun thread.
