I love how people think being mod means they have the power to change something.

You enforce the rules of the Escapist and make judgements based on those rules.

You can't just ban people willy nilly, and you certainly can't change any of the rules to serve your own desires.
You can, but it'd be a bad idea as you'd probably lose the position and get banned in retaliation.

Ponies! Every day! Don't like Ponies? BAN! Said stupid comment about ponies? BAN! Write a speech that takes 15 minutes about how much you despise ponies? BAN! Soon, all will fall... and the Pony-scapist shall rise from the ashes!
With the two of us acting as double agents for the Brony Collective, we shall slowly but surely convert and assimilate the heretics to the path of pony. All shall join us or perish!

Everyone who makes a thread that really should be a reply to another thread but they wanted to make sure everyone saw their clearly extra-important opinion will be dragged out into the street and shot.

...

Or banned. I guess that's fine too.

Begin issuing warnings to anyone who uses the term "PC elitist". It's one of those over used terms used to broadly describe an entire group when it's really a vocal minority. I would also issue warnings for "console tard" but I don't see people throwing that around much.

I would make it to where once somebody has reached 20,000 posts, they will have every avatar show up as Justin Bieber (like the red button) until they quit the forums and go outside.

Also, Daystar's getting the banhammer for the lulz.

I'd ban this user [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view], God I hate that guy so much. Other than that... just laugh manically at my newfound power.
Come on, guys, nobody's falling for that anymore. Besides, I knew it was a joke the first time I saw it simply because I'm too sexy to be hated.

Ban no one, allow discussion, doubt, debate and people to be offended by those with different views, with no consequences.

Lock all the big bandwagon threads like gender questions, circumcision, gun laws and friend zoning.

I'd send every topic of the month thread to R&P to decay after the first 48 hours.

I'd ban two topics from The Escapist's forums entirely.

Politics and Religion.

In my experience, making these subjects taboo in a public circle makes for much more civil discussions. No "EFF YOU, YOU PERSON OF A RELIGIOUS OUTLOOK WHICH IS CONTRARY TO MY OWN AND WHO DOES NOT ADHERE TO NEOLIBERALISM OR THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE OR WHATEVER ELSE!"

Apart from that, your standard funsies would be had.

Oh man oh man, so many options!

I think going through this thread and doing what each post says would be fun for such a person! :D

I think they should work in numerical order from the first response until they reach the end of the thread. Considering Response #2 is "lock this thread", that means it wouldn't keep bumping while they're working. :D

Systematically ban all of the staff members. Then ban myself. Maybe have a sandwich at some point while doing that.

If I've somehow become a moderator then you'd best be more worried about all the pigs that have started flying, and less about what I'd do as a moderator.
You'd have to make a pretty big turnaround to go from being banned three times to moderator.
At least you could say that you've experienced the wrath of your power.
I've seen people on several forums go from being perma-banned to being moderators or admins. Many times it even worked out, because they tend to be people who were really invested in the community. Though I can think of at least two times where a mod snapped and went scorched earth on the forums.

It's really difficult to find a good mod. :(

A mod that's less of a mediator at heart and more of a generally enthusiastic/helpful user will get quickly burnt out on the community they enjoy when the responsibility starts to feel like work. And the larger a community becomes, the tricksier the trolls get - they start setting subtler traps for the mods, which can be a bit stressful. :)
