The true final boss (in my eyes) is the server room. Screw that twat with the machine gun. Screw him.
For me it was the place with the elevator at the end of the room guarded by two machine gun guys. Try doing that without hurting anyone.

Boss fights are outdated and dull.

I'd be far happier if we had punch-ups like in AC2; in fact, that's exactly what Arkham Asylum's final fight should have been.
Personally, I think it was utte bullshit.

Now the bost fight in AC was much better done. It did have enough difficulty to kill you if you weren't aware, and it also presented the option to do it like a true assassin and just stab the sonuvabitch in the heart before he ever gets to mess with you.
In terms of the classic boss battle, it probably was better.

But since I like to think games have matured and we can focus more on the narrative, I'd like to think AC2's "boss battle" is far more appropriate for the game that it is.

The boss fight in AC did what all boss fights seem to do; super charge the villain (although at least it made sense), disregard the gameplay mechanics of the entire game, and be mechanical. I.e. He appears, you hit him with a throwing knife, then stab him with the sword, he appears somewhere else, rinse/repeat.

AND OH MY GOOOODDDD I FORGOT THAT.
Yeah, right, the last boss on Fable 2 was just...:/ RAAAAAGGGEEEE.
And it wasnt like Jack of blades was hard either but atleast he tried.
i mean just compare the way they look:
[/spoilers]
Oh, forget about the shard did we? Eugh... Lucien was not the final boss. And, to be honest, I think fable 2's ending far outstrips most modern games.

OT: Zelda Wind Waker was a little too easy...

I wish Fallout 3 made Liberty Prime turn on you. It wasn't tested yet, so it could've had a malfunction. Maybe climb a building while killing minions and dropping a chunk of metal on it. Then fight it at a weak point or somthing. That would have been awesome.
YES! THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AWSOME *turns caps-lock off* when i was finishing fallout 3 i didnt expect the "final boss" to be some guy with a strange accent in a trench coat and a 10mm pistol, i mean COME ON that was stupid. after playing fallout 3, i was expecting something like this to happen or a mega-ultra-super behemoth to pop out or somthing like that.

also, the liberty prime idea is excelent! they should have done that... maybe, but it would have come with flaws to the story though...

also also, as an added answer for mine GTA V: WORSE BOSS FIGHT EVER, one behind fallout 3...

Yeah, that punchout-talky-talky scene was exactly what pissed me off.
I found it incredibly stupid.
And the option to insta-kill
Al Mualim
made his surprise all the sweeter.

Here's one that may take you back. Wario land 3 for the game boy colour. A nice adventure game with many levels, all of which have multiple endings, and after getting to the end the mysterious figure who obviously is the final boss turns out to be a fucking clown. A CLOWN THE BASTARDS. jump on his hands then throw that at his big nose. Three hits and he's dead. So dissapointing.

Onimusha Dawn of Dreams.
Final boss is just a floating guy who isn't difficult, just has boring quantities of health. I saved up my items and magic and shit cause I expected it to get more interesting at some point. Really dissapointing.
old side-scrolling shooters like R-type ALWAYS had awesome bosses, game developers should go back and play that shit.
I love Dawn of Dreams, mostly because of the special multiplayer mode. Roberto can win in 2 seconds with that. Good memories...

Borderlands. I don't think it even had any attacks. It was the most pathetic boss battle I have ever fought.
Yeah the one time I died fighting it was when I accidentally back over the edge and fell to my death.

Really? I thought these guard parties were fun. Of course I tried to knock out and disarm every opponent possible, so I might be a bit biased. I just kicked him, took his gun and coated the room with bullets.
I was going for a gunless route on hard, and it's virtually impossible to get CLOSE to him.
Okay, that's something different then. Machine gunners are a ***** on hard.

As much as I love Half-Life, there has never been a good Half-Life boss, besides Striders. Ever.
I agree with this up to a point, there really hasn't been a good -biological- boss in Half-Life i.e. a living enemy, but they always have climactic end-games take in Half-Life 2 (Spoiler) when you must disable the Citadel's core from the inside with your ultra powerful gravity gun.
Oh,well yeah, that was awesome.

halo 3, because it spent the whole game teasing us with the possibility of a gravemind bossfight.
mass effect 1, because the final boss was lame, weak, annoying, and was single handedly killed by my teammates more than once.
fable 2, because if you've decided your game isnt going to be challenging, you could at least make the final boss fun.

Killzone 2.

Yes it was very hard but soooooooooo very repetitive and cheap. Radec kills himself in the end you just weaken him....

I'm kind of shocked no-one's mentioned the end "boss" of Singularity.

It's you carrying the Big Bad out of the fire he was supposed to have died in years ago. Furthermore, your past self couldn't see you or defend itself.

Great Thread for my first time here. I checked only the 2 first pages, and even so my memory is preety bad, I remember clearly about my desapointment regarding Bioshock's final Boss.

After suffering the hell on earth with all the Big Daddys and other bosses, I had absolutely no problem to kill the final boss, and it just got me sad.

I also agree with the guys that mentioned Arkham Asylun's final boss. That was not Joker... that was just a Joke.

Regarding FF XIV, it was not only the final boss, it was the whole game. Like I said to a friend of mine: "FF XIV is over 40 hours of just pressing the x button".

And in conclusion, I noticed someone talked about God of War 3. OK, Zeus was easy, but not as much as in God of War 2. I remember that when I finished God of War 2, I was still waiting for the final boss to appear, because Zeus was just ridiculous back then.

I thought there were some good bosses in the original half life. Remember that huge three armed tentacle horn stabbing monster you have to destroy with the test fire? That was a pretty epic boss! I agree with you on Half Life 2, though. Pretty lame.
