If you mean Indigenous Australians, that's not actually true. They weren't counted in the census, and many felt it was as if they were considered wildlife, but that wasn't really an official position held by the government. OTOH, Australian coins feature wildlife, except for the one with an Aboriginal man on it.

Velociraptor, so long as he's big enough to saddle. Barring dinosaurs, I would say either a Rhino or polar bear.
