This reminds me of an argument I had with my manager once...
Basically she had a new REAL leather jacket and this was, of course, the hot new subject of the day amongst the females of the team. Being only one of two men on an 8 strong team at the time, I probably should have kept my mouth closed. But I felt it appropriate to ask:
"Aren't you a vegetarian?"
After a reply of "So?" I continued, pointing out that she is a vegetarian by choice and believes it's wrong to eat animals, so it's rather hypocritical to wear the hide of a cow (which just happenes to be one of her favorite animals).
The argument I was given was that it's ok for a vegetarian to wear leather because the animal wasn't killed specifically for THAT purpose. It's a by-product of the meat industry, so you might as well use it so it's not wasted.
I then pointed out that you might as well just eat the meat too. The animal has already been killed, so why let it's meat go to waste?
I was then shouted at by several 'sisters doing it for themselves' and called 'stupid' until I went for a cigarette.
SO. My question is: Was I wrong to say this was hypocritical? Or was this 'No meat/Yes leather' really that friggin' moronic?
Oh and regarding the OP, I do love and respect animals, but there is nothing wrong with consuming them. It's the circle of life etc...
