The last time I was in a starbucks, I sat at a table next to some young women who used the word "like" 3-4 times per sentence. Whenever I hear my friends or family using "like" incorrectly, I repeat their sentence and substitute "as if," or "such as."

"I am like going to the store."

"You are as if going to the store?"

I annoyed them with it just as much as "like" annoys me, and doing that actually helped some of them break the habit.

Like.

Remove like and it forces people to explain there opinions more :p i'm guilty of using like myself but if it was removed i think things would be more intresting.... like.

I also hate it as a sentance finishing blow like.

I'd get rid of the word God. Because forcing Christian people to refer to him as 'beardy sky man' would make them even funnier.
Lord and Jesus Christ, etc, etc...There are so many other names they can use.
Damn :/ stop ruining my fun.

Even though it isn't an actual word, I'd banish "irregardless" to the black depths of linguistic hell where it belongs. The wailings of the pretentious faux-intellectuals would be wonderful to hear.
It is a real word, because the Oxford English Dictionary only requires a word to appear twice in writing, in the same context (but from different writers?) for it to become an entry.
Doesn't make it any less phenomenally stupid though.

'Bootilicious' is also in there.

"Hella". If the extra syllable of "hell of a" is too much work for you, cease communicating.

Why?

If you've ever worked with or have had kids you'll understand.

Yes it'll probebly block any new dicoveries in science since we would've lost all curiosity but dammit its worth it!

To paraphrase 1984, to eliminate a word from vernacular is an attempt to remove the idea it symbolizes from human thought. Free thought. No banning words. Not even the pedantic, vacuous ones pointed out by my colleagues.

Innit.

Where I grew up `innit` was just the sentance finisher.
I've been guilty of this myself (it's bloody infectious), as well as `aint no`- I just had to stop myself writing `aint no` instead of `isn't any` about five minutes ago.
I agree with this.

Now if I could only do something about the fresh wave of chavvy slang that's engulfed my college. Off the top of my head: bare means loads of. "I had bare drinks". Something wan-wan. And people saying OJ as in Over Joked, when something isn't funny anymore.

Will people kindly stop butchering the English language?

De-plane

I don't know if it's technically a word, but I've heard it used and it makes me hate all of creation for allowing it to exist.

Although I very much sympathize with the people against the word "like"

Conquistador, because its the least used word in the English language, because it is Spanish, and only is used for the conquest of the New World.

Because the English language is already screwed up, I'm not going to ruin it even more.

Banter. Such a horrible word, and is starting to get overused a lot. I don't know if that's just where I am or everywhere but I hate it.

Honestly, people would likely just come up with a new word to replace the old one that means the exact same thing. Sure, people could just figure out a way around using it, but making a new word would be easier. Soon we'd just be having threads over the use of the word "Rayep" or something.

None of you may ever say "fuck" again.
Beat me to it. It seems all the good ones were taken already. I guess I'll remove "Yo". Sorry skateboarders and gangstas.
