I am going to be so mighty pissed when episode 3 isnt worth the wait. And oh, it wont be worth the wait. Kinda like Yahtzee once said, valve seem to have missed one of the big points of episodic gaming: more frequent release dates. How long have we been waiting? 3 years? It feels like 20, and that day I played Episode 2 for the first time (twas the same day I completed it, just for the record) seems so long ago... *sigh*

The only reason i have the Gman as my avatar is because he is one of the most interesting characters in game history, and because he resembles me quite well.

Personally, I think that about a month before Portal 2 is released, Valve will suddenly announce "oh, by the way, we've finished Episode 3 and are going to release the two games together. Have fun ". It seems like something they would do. However, I realise my personal opinions are not relevant to reality and the most probable scenario is that like plenty of their previous games it will take a long time but will be a superb gaming experience. Past history is on their side.

Chell causes some sort of time slip/warp/tear/whatever-you-want-to-call-it after completing the events in Portal 2. The game ends with her on her back looking up at the ceiling (much the way the first game ended). Off in the corner is are the letters "Bor" on what appears the be the hull of a vessel, with the rest of the letters off screen. Suddenly, a very familiar voice calls out, "Holy crap! Are you okay?"
Suddenly, Alyx leans into view, staring down at Chell (and the player). She then looks off screen and yells, "Gordon! Over here!" Gordon looks down at Chell and the screen cuts to black. The End.

While YES, i agree the first portal was amazing, Half Life 2 :Episode 2 left on a massive cliffhanger and we have no idea what the hell is going to happen now. Ive been waiting for the last 3 years for any news on it and thought that after L4D2, Episode 3 was next. But no, people love cake jokes more and want another portal game.

Its not that im not excited about Portal 2, but come ON Valve, whats going to happen to the Half Life series, one of the greatest series so far in gaming?

Did people want more Portal? Yes. Are people getting more Portal? Yes. Will they eventually continue the Half-Life series? Yes.

Do you have any idea I've had to wait for the (absolutely delicious) sequel to Mafia? A lot longer than we've been waiting for Episode 3.

Are you going to keep whining about it, or are you going to accept that Valve do things in their own time and that's precisely why they're in the top-tier of today's developers? It better be no to the former and yes to the latter.

Valve have previously stated that there had been something that slowed the developement of Ep3, they wouldn't specify what it was. If i could find the quote i'd give it but i read it a while back around the same time they were talking about sign language.

From the way they were talking about it it sounded like a major addition to the game so don't be disheartened. I have nothing but faith in Valve so i'm staying optimistic.

I have two main predictions about Ep3/

1. If we havn't heard anything by the end of this year then i'm assuming we will hear it Q1/2 of 2011 possibly soon after portal 2's release, or perhaps as an in game reveal.

2. Gabe will come up onto a stage holding a red button, he presses it and reveals that Ep3 is now available for download on steam, then strolls off the stage leaving the audience, nay, THE WORLD in shock and awe.

That seems reasonable. It would be a HUGE surprise considering how long they've taken on the project. If they did that, I'd have to purchase episode 1 and 2. I was originally saving it for when they released all the episodes.

Oh come one! Seriously? There was a thread yesterday title'd "Not this shit again." My example was basically people whining about Episode 3. Its fucking annoying. I didn't like Half Life 2 or its episodes. Its gameplay was boring, its characters were unrelatable, but the thing that annoyed me the most about it was I was SUPPOSED to like it because the internet says so.

I couldn't care less about Episode 3. I just wish it wasn't crammed down my throat every five minutes with another news update on its lack of existence or more threads like this one.

I suggest you have some faith in Valve, regardless of whatever reason they have for waiting with episode 3 (perhaps figuring out a nice plot to go with it), I'm sure its for the best.

Valve does whatever it feels like doing. If that's making a sequel to Portal, fine. If it's not a sequel for Episode 3, oh well.

I agree that episode 3 really reaaaally needs to come out soon but...

Portal 2 will hopefully go some way to linking the Aperture Science bit to the rest of the HL universe and provide a stepping stone to ep3 with the Borealis and stuff. It can be seen positively in this way.

That and Portal 2 will hopefully be an excellent game in its own right.

While Portal was an excellent game... worthy of recommendation to friends and all that...

I just don't get the want of a sequel. It's not even really sequel worthy? The genius of the first game was that it could explore a quick idea and then be done with itself. Having a sequel, is just weird. Completely reminds me of Bioshock 2, and how that was completely unnecessary also.

It's also similar to the LIMBO 2 idea. I'm not even sure if that's true or not.. but anyway.. Why must everything have a sequel? Can't we just have pride in a one-time game for once, and move on to something more original? Portal 1 was original and great, Portal 2 will not be original.

They're not doing Ep 3... they're making Half Life 3 on a new engine (we can hope, right?)
