I don't know a whole lot about NZ besides the whole "Lord of the Rings" thing, which does make the place seem epic and beautiful.

I've know about it for as long as I can remember, however.

One of my best friends actually moved here with his family from New Zealand when he was very young. So I know a few things about New Zealand though I'm mostly ignorant. If Flight of the Conchords is any indication of New Zealand attitudes, I like the way you guys think.

Of course I do. Lord of the Rings! In all seriousness, it is a very gorgeous, scenic place, and infamous for having fruit dogs instead of drug dogs at the airport.

Born and bred in Auckland, baby! Lived in Mairangi Bay, but most of the folks were from up near Whangarei. Was dragged from my home at the age of six and made to live in Australia by my uncaring parents, but one day... one day...

The All Blacks are awesome, Dan Carter should have been FORCED to play the last match against France and Waitangi Day is always a problem wherever you are in the country.

LOTR is awesome, but Whale Rider was really cool. Also, Karl Urban. Living proof that not all NZ badasses make the rugby side. ^_^

I'd also like to point out that I am a kiwi girl. I'm not stuck up. I'm actually pretty nice. Thing is, most (but not all) kiwis are the same - blunt, tactless, wary about who they become friends with and relaxed. Once you ARE friends, however, there's no shutting us up. :D

U.S. citizen here. I know of your country, I can point it out on a map(an incredible feat for most Americans), and your country seems like a pretty fine place.

Kind of tucked away from everything, high standard of living, great scenery. I'd definitely go there sometime.

Deadly animals? Beware of the terrifying Weta. Did I mention it's a survivor of the cold? [http://www.cracked.com/article_18471_5-animals-that-are-terrifyingly-hard-to-kill.html] But don't squash it because it's endangered :)

Oh, and when I explain to some New Zealanders that my girlfriends Canadian and I'm American, and that it's a 12 hour drive to her house, they're flabergasted. Not by the long distance relationship, but by the fact you could actually take 12 hours to drive somewhere! I guess in most places that would put you in the middle of an ocean should you try
Strange. My family and I went to Napier from Auckland. Took well over 12 hours. Many other people do that. I always assumed it was a Kiwi tradition.

I don't know a whole lot besides 'next to Australia', 'lots of sheep', and 'stereotypical stories of romantic relations with said sheep'. thats about it.

huh.. I gotta wonder what that has to say about a country and its standing in the world when one of the few things I am familiar with of the country are jokes of the people being romantic with the local livestock...

I know things like:

New Zealanders think American money is weird and awkward to use (what the fuck kind of money do you use then? just coins? just credit cards? HOW DO YOU LIVE ?!)
That Google Chrome doesn't consider "Zealand" a word... well apparently anyways, as everytime I type it there's a red squiggly line under it.
that ya'll must have really small houses because EVERY FUCKING TIME I PLAY WITH ONE OF YA'LL THERE'S SO MUCH NOISE IN THE BACK GROUND!
That ya'll are very peaceful. One of the Playstation Network buddies was telling us Americans in our clan that there was this big celebration in some big city square that in NZ. Apparently, there were enough cops and "facilities" for around 300,000 people but ONE MILLION people showed up. It was totally, TOTALLY peaceful and apparently like a gargantuan party with a bunch of friends - no crime reported whatsoever. Us Americans agreed that if that had happened ANYWHERE in America, it would have turned into a riot.
That ya'll are very homely - and by that there's nothing particularly extravagant about you. This is a good and bad thing, as the good thing is there's nothing infamous attached to your name. But the bad part about it is that there's nothing particularly extraordinary either.
Rugby.

GOOD GOD RUGBY!

Oh, and when I explain to some New Zealanders that my girlfriends Canadian and I'm American, and that it's a 12 hour drive to her house, they're flabergasted. That's all I can think of now...

OH and giant penis' in the ground... http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/865692-student-penis-art-captured-by-google-earth
Ok I live in New Zealand and you have brought up a few things that I can explain.

1) I expect other kiwis find American notes confusing because they are all green. New Zealand dollar notes come in different colours according to their denomination ie 10 dollars is blue while a 20 dollar note is green.

2) That gathering of one million people would have been 1/4 of New Zealand's total population in one spot or all of Auckand city.

(From USA): I think of NZ as a cross between western and polynesian culture, kind of like Hawaii. I believe the native people are called maori, and unlike say australians/aborigines the native culture has more of an impact on modern life and there is a larger population of native people, but they are still a minority.

In terms of geography, of course the New Zealand landscape appears in the Lord of the Rings movies, and also in the Xena/Hercules shows from the 90s. I thought the climate was warm and tropical, but thinking about the sheep I'm not sure. I guess that means there is more variation in temperatures than in other places in Polynesia.

Well I live in Australia so of course I've heard of it.

Plus, that's where Middle Earth is and it's where the Kiwi bird majestically flies roams.

Know where it is. Know a couple facts about it probably. Mostly cause my old best friends step father was from New Zealand.
