Lord of the Rings
Flight of the Conchords

There lies the full extent of my knowledge of New Zealand

EDIT: Also cricket. Being South African, it is compulsory that I know that too.

Just 2 weeks short of 111 years ago, a new country (Australia) was formed. What is now New Zealand had considered being part of this new country, but decided against it.

On the other hand, having "Australia and New Zealand" or "New Zealand and Australia" would have been a big ungainly name.

New Zealander here with a few fun facts:
Petrol is over $2 a litre, which is equal to about £1GBP or $1.20~USD.
We have roughly the same amount of land as Japan, but they have over 20x more people
Like our Australian neighbors we LOVE to drink
A brand new copy of CoD MW3 is $150 here. Disgusts me, that's about £75GBP or $120USD!
There are more like sheep and Rugby but everyone knows that

I am from New Zealand and I can tell you some basic things

1. We hate Australia (Possibly because people always associate them with us)
2. As far as landscape goes, I live in the South Island where the majority of LOTR was shot.
3. Highest car ownership per head in the world
4. Very intense about a lot of sports not just rugby (Cricket and Netball etc)
5. Strong adventure tourism

My sister lives there and is getting married in January, so I'll be going there for a month (from the Netherlands BTW).

Also: rugby, maori, kiwi, sheep, LOTR, Flight of the Conchords, The Naked and Famous.

You can't really miss it on the map since it looks sort of like a shotgun. Other than that, and that it is named for OUR province of Zeeland(Netherlands) I don't know much about it.

Being from Australia I know New Zealand well, a lovely little island as Gruen Transfer showed:
http://youtu.be/vo6fgZ-dbOw

I think its cute how you guys think you're a real country and everything, and personally I have nothing against with your ... ummm... 'affection' for sheep.

P.S No Offence intended, I'm just pointing out the typical Australian stereo-type of New Zealand, I've really got lots of love for you kiwi's, we just need to join up with you so that we have more sheep then China.

P.P.S Fish and Chips :p just sayin.....

Being English, you have the sort of insects that would make me curl up in a ball and die of fear.

I know about it. Not in depth, but the maori, local animals(sheeps ;)) and the nature are pretty known to me. Think it's pretty amazing that you have such rich and different envieroments. Recently watched the LOTR trilogy and it's hard to believe that all locations are in the same country.
I'm from Sweden, by the way. :>

It's that australian state with the sheep right? The island just below Victoria with all the inbreds? Feel sorry for you your like a worse version of NSW which is saying something.(Lets see how many of my fellow countrymen I can offend :p)

But in all seriousness I know a decent amount about NZ. About as much as I know about the rest of the australian states (the ones that arn't QLD) and I know your not part of Aus but it really is easier just considering us as a whole like with the ANZAC. Overall NZ for me is basically where all the good "Australian" stuff comes from really.

Well, to be fair, I can't point out all countries on the world map either. Try to point out 'Benin'. But the widely know things like USA, Europe... Yes, that is kind of silly not knowing.

BEST. COUNTRY. IN THE FUCKING WORLD.

I live in the US now, but I would give almost anything to live in New Zealand.

The cities, the people, the landmarks, the history, I love all of it.

If New Zealand had an orifice I would make love to it...

Sure, I've heard 'bout New Zeeland, but I'll admit I don't know much 'bout it. You're a part of the continent Oceania... Rugby seems to be pretty big down there... You qualified for last years FIFA World Cup and were the only team that left the tournament undefeated (three draws)... You had a pretty good contestant in the World's Strongest Man competition about ten years ago (can't remember his name)... Umm, sheep? Green country? I think that's all I got.

Oh, and when I explain to some New Zealanders that my girlfriends Canadian and I'm American, and that it's a 12 hour drive to her house, they're flabergasted. Not by the long distance relationship, but by the fact you could actually take 12 hours to drive somewhere! I guess in most places that would put you in the middle of an ocean should you try
Strange. My family and I went to Napier from Auckland. Took well over 12 hours. Many other people do that. I always assumed it was a Kiwi tradition.
Sorry, I have to ask, how on Earth did it take you 12 hours to get from Napier to Auckland? When I lived in Dannevirke it took seven, maybe eight. Now the twelve hour slog from Dunedin to Nelson, that is a mission.

OT: If you haven't already guessed I am a Kiwi myself, born and bred. I've lived in Nelson, Dunedin, Dannevirke and Palmerston North. I wouldn't trade this country for the world.

I know some of the country, and it's location on the world map (without the text being there -.-)
You got loads of sheep and you like Rugby (what do you mean generalisation?)
You also have the hill with the strangest/longest name and it's an Island!
A big part of Lord of the Rings was filmed there due to the landscape.

AND since the Op asked to:
Anyone know something about or where Finland is??!! ;)
