When you look up at the ceiling and see Dwarven Axe Throwers tossing axes at a Mûmakil. Or when you see a bunch of Elites charging you. Or Arkantos and the rest owning a myth unit.

When I'm playing Airsoft and I look for my remaining ammo count.

Also, slightly unrelated... I see an Angel statue and refuse to blink for 15 minutes after.

When you get halfway out of your car because the other one stopped at the lights looks faster, that's time for a GTA hiatus.

When you turn quite fast and wonder why you can't see your tail, but carry on trying to wall run around people anyway, that's too much AvP.

...and of course, when you double-take because you looked down and saw your legs, and they even seem to be really pushing you along.

...you have the words "Respawn in 8..." etched onto your family member's/friend's/pet's tombstone or request it as your epitaph.
That's a good idea.

....you hear the Xbox 360 Achievement Unlock sound at work. Maybe i should get that seen to at some point :S
When I first played Metal Gear Solid: Portable Op+, my characters were low on stamina so often, I heard the beeping noise all the time (only when I played, though). I don't hear it any more, though (except at the obvious times).

When you believe that holding a knife makes you run faster (who wants a cookie?).
I gotta know what game are you talking about!?

Battlefield and Turok are the only games that come to mind that let you just hold a knife (and I've played little of both).

When quick time events haunt your dreams and turn them into nightmares. Seriously I would have a nice dream then suddenly see a pres X at the bottom of my vision and if I don't press x on my imaginary controller I just conjured I'll stop dreaming or something will kill me.

Once I was sparring with a friend of mine. I (somehow) disarmed him with a ludicrous, yet fabulous, flourish, and then tried to collect all of the experience orbs with right trigger.
Then I laughed and laughed and laughed.

....when u think taking a whole bottle of advil will boost ur health for a temporary health boost.

....when walking into a room full of people u hear the anouncer from Halo say, "Slayer."

....when u think u can chug a bottle of orange juice in two seconds to fill ur health bar.

....when u blame ur personal clumsiness on crappy controls.

... you try to cast Dark Matter on someone who annoys you.

... you try to jump over buildings and climb on them.

... you try to throw a ball at a wild animal.

... you try to sneak by people by crouching in the shadows.

... you start drifting while driving your car around a corner.

... you wake up in a bathroom and realise you've murdered somebody.

Wait...

Lol Legendary! Gonna use this one..

OT: You know you've played games too much when you hurt yourself and you look in the pantry for something to eat. Preferably mushrooms.

I knew I played too many video games when I had WWII flashbacks in the seventh grade from playing CoD1 too much. The faint *Tink tink teh-teh-te-tink* sound of metal slamming into the ground from a grenade thrown, bounced, and finally rests. The background noise of Howitzers firing mortar shells with the soft report of gun fire of various calibers. I still believe I'm slightly autistic, but I guess I don't show symptoms aside from daydreaming so hard I can't hear nor see the world around me for about five seconds. It then just becomes audio, a shake of my head, and awkward glances from people around me.

OT: can anyone calculate about how old I am just from the release date of CoD1 being in the same year as when I was in seventh grade?
