Yep, I got booted from a firefight because I attempted to shoot some plasma on an enemy and a teammate dropped in the path of the explosive and got killed.

This game attracts idiots, plain and simple.

Rocket reflected off a guy who armor locked and killed a team-mate. Insta-kicked.

Unfortunately the world is full of petulant dicks who take themselves too seriously and throw a strop when their favourite toy is taken away - or they are accidentally killed by a teammate in Halo.

I'd hate to see these people in real life - what'd they do if you jostled their drink in a bar? Stab you in the gut? Get the management to chuck you out? Actually, probably not, because they wouldn't be able to do it at a click of a button and remain largely anonymous afterwards.

I have kicked out one person. That was during Firefight when this kid had systematically gone around and killed all of his own team mates until the other two players quit in frustration. Maybe he didn't understand the difference between Firefight and the rumble pit, but after the third sticky grenade to the face at point blank range I decided to kick him for betrayal before quitting myself. I know I could have just left the game and left him to do... whatever the hell it is he wanted to do, but I'd rather make a point to him that I considered his actions wrong, and I couldn't do it through speech because he clearly wasn't hearing any of our "What the fuck are you doing"s, or just ignoring them.

All this being said, I think there should be some watching-the-watchmen kind of situation making sure that people self-moderating aren't abusing their powers. Like questioning the umpire in tennis, you should only be able to kick people a certain number of times, which would force people to consider whether the offence was truly worth it.

I also think its a bit nonsensical to be able to kick people out when they are system linking with you. I did it by accident to my friend, and it made me wonder why I even had that option. I mean, I was in the kids house sitting next to him on an adjacent TV, how exactly was I going to get away with booting him from the game and continue on my own?

I just slapped him across the back of the head every other time he 'accidentally' ran me over...

All this being said, I've betrayed quite a few people by accident and also generally sucked as a team mate (I'm not playing this to a professional level, sorry people), but no one has booted me. Maybe I'm just hitting the Matchmaking at a time when more reasonable people are playing?

Exactly, but 99% of people will kick you even if it was a blatant accident.
And it is very difficult to tell if it was a accident. If I got hit by a warthog and I didn't see the warthog coming at me, how can I tell if it was an accident or not? I can't see if the Driver is flipping his Warthog due to a large blue screen appearing covering my television now can I?

This can apply to about everything. I can't see if you were aiming that Rocket at me or at an enemy and missed. The only way for me to check is to go into theater and even then, I'd rather play it safe and boot the player.

Somehow, that reminds me of this clip..

Because they don't like being killed obviously...

I boot if I think it was incredibly stupid or on purpose. If it was a blatant out of control accident I'll let it slide.
You sound like the team I had in L4D where I did a "Boomer Bomb" from the top of the elevator and straight down just for the fun for it. Got booted <_<
that's actually probably one of the funniest halo clips I've seen in AGES. It's like a Rube Goldberg Machine.. the fates aligned in just such a way that lead to his death.. When watching that clip, I hum the Breakfast Machine song from PeeWee/Family Guy

Because the Halo community Sucks? Halo and COD aren't exactly known for having the nicest people online.

Also, only one teamkill and you're allowed to be kicked? I've never played Halo but unless it's REALLY REALLY HARD to Teamkill someone that seems a bit trigger happy of Bungie.

If it helps you, I wouldn't kick you if it actually was an accident. I mean, I once kicked the rest of my team in a rocket match because they kept teamkilling (on purpose) and still won.

But, I don't play Halo, so you're out of luck, I'm afraid.

The kicking system is retarded in Halo. A dude can team kill me 3 or 4 times without me getting an option to kick. Then I decide not to ruin my killing spree for this and just beat him down like the noob he is. I get booted. WTF

My favorite was in invasion in the beta. As some of you might remember, spartans where even mre overpowered back then. So for once, we had gotten the generator out, but it was being returned. I hijack an enemy tank and get an overkill. One of our dudes takes generator and happily walks towards landing pad and then BOOM I get kicked because some idiot was in the way of my carnage. Actually, he drove in front of the shot with a ghost. So what could have been a rare elite win in invasion for me ended up with me getting booted. Hahaha.

I usually don't kick unless it was deliberate, and it's usually pretty obvious when it is. Random grenade happens to hit you from across the map, probably not intentional. Flying warthog of death...prrooooobably not intentional. If someone behind me decides to peg me with a rocket randomly, BOOOT

Shit happens to me all the time on Halo: Combat Evolved. me and a friend of mine log on to someone Else's game, were having a good time, we start killing each other (even if were on the same team), were laughing. But then we both get booted. im like wtf? Me and him have the highest score on our team, were winning the game for the Reds, but the asshole Host is a dick and kicks us.

The thing about the boot system in Halo is that boots carry over. If you betrayed someone in your last match and do it again in the second, you'll be insta-booted. 2 betrayals in a game also can get you booted, but the thing about Halo is that it is REALLLLYY difficult to accidentally kill someone.

You have shields. A single accidental shot isn't gonna kill you unless I'm using certain explosive weapons like the Plasma Grenade or Rocket Launcher, even then, using those weapons would encourage me to be careful with them. Even then, there is a very rare case where you will actually accidentally betray someone. If you see your teammate fighting an enemy and fire a rocket at them, do you expect your teammate to survive? If you fire a rocket and the rocket is batted away by an explosion or something and it goes off to kill someone, then yes, that would be an accident. But as I said earlier, it is really difficult to tell if it was an accident given the betrayal system in place. If I'm hoping around without an enemy near me and I get blasted by a rocket by you, I'm gonna assume it was on purpose.
