So, who were your ancestors? What ancient nations and/or cultures are you descended from?

For example, my mother is Australian and my father is Egyptian. I have both Jewish and Arab blood running through my veins (I'm my own worst enemy XD), and am descended from Scottish, Irish (the convicts) and English European settlers.
It dawned on me the other day that my distant ancestors may have actually fought each other during the Crusades!

In fact, just for some random fun: in which nation would you have been born, had you existed during the Medieval era rather than the present day?

English for 800 years straight I think (Give or take 50 years). Also all born in the same region on England for the past 100 or so.

And when I say 800 years straight I mean my Dad's line and my Mum's. And my Mum's Mum and my Mum's Dad. And my...

You get the picture, basically no relatives who contributed to me (And almost all who didn't) were anything but English.
(I got lucky, my Uncle is Australian)

So excuse me if I'm proud of that.

Oh, I say 800 years as I don't really know before that, it gets a bit murky. (And the Norman Invasion)

And I'd choose to live in England.

This is England! (<-- Film referance)

Edit: Correct my years if I'm wrong about the invasion and stuff, but I'm pretty sure they're right.
Also, I know alot of my relatives went on the Crusades.

England i guess...My ancestry on my mother's side is extremely murky past her parents,so I tuly have no Idea...I just go by what my father is: 1/2 Polish and 1/2 Irish.I still like England more though, even though I've never been there.

Say,as a side note:I've never tried that hard to trace my ancestry, how do I go about doing that efficiently?

I've only traced it back as far as when either side of my family came to the United States. 5th generation Irish on one side, 4th generation Italian on the other. Other than the fact that both sets of ancestors were dirt poor when they came to America, I really don't know too much about them.

I'm over half Italian. Other than that, I have a lot of Romanian and Austrian. I also have a tiny bit of pretty much almost every other Caucasian nation. I have no idea where my family is originally from. I never really cared enough to check.

I've got a bit of Irish blood from my granddad's mother, but other than that I'm pure English, although that's a bit of an oxymoron as we're a massive mixing pot of other nationalities.

For example, my ma's dad reckons his side of the family has got some Viking ancestors, as he had a condition in one of his fingers that is/ was common in Scandinavia.

To answer your question, I would have like to have been born in America. Native Americans are awesome.

I think I'm just Dutch. I saw a lineage quite a few years ago that traced my family back for at least 300 years not only in the same country, but in the same freakin' region as well. And the Netherlands already is small, just think about how small that wee little region is... Surprised there wasn't any inbreeding.

As for your question, I'd go for the Arab world. They peaked during Medieval times, blooming in science and art alike.

English and Welsh mostly. My Mum's parents are both half welsh, and my Dad's mum is welsh.
In fact, my most famous ancestor is Welsh. He's Henry Morgan [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Morgan], an awesometastic pirate :D

Right now I live in Finland and my parents and grandparents have all lived their lives here, but I think my Fathers Grandmother was from Russia and came here during the war, so I'm partpartpart Russian I think.

If i where born in the Middle Ages, based on my ancestry, half of me would be in county Connacht, and the other half of me in Lancashire....

If however the Op's question means where would i have liked to have been born in the Middle Ages- i would opt for Tahiti personally. State of Nature FTW.
