There is a strong possibility that I am also decended of the O'Neills (given my great-grandad's surname, O'neill).Furburt said:I'm Irish, and I've traced it back quite a few centuries, I'm essentially 95% Irish Gaelic, and 5% Scots Gaelic. I'm actually directly descended from the O'Neills and the O'Rourkes, two clans that were both high kings of Ireland for quite some time.
So, not much travel going on in my family, but it's nice to know where you come from.
As for your question, China. They were very innovative at that point.
Hey, that'd make us some sort of very distant cousins lol. For your mother's side, look around the city of Nauvoo Illinois, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nauvoo,_Illinois during the time your family would have set out. As it says in the article the city was close to chicago in size before the movement west. Plus most morman pioneers started from there.PhunkyPhazon said:Alright, I don't know the details but apparently my brother traced back our lineage years ago in school. According to him, my family is descended from a now extinct branch of medieval British royalty. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Lancaster] If my grandmothers maiden name is of any significance, then my family must have moved to Ireland afterwards, and then eventually came to America. Though this is all on my fathers side. On my mothers side, all I know is that one of my ancestors joined the Mormons trek to Utah in the 1800's. I don't know anything beyond that.
I'd like to confirm all this for myself, but I don't even know where to begin looking <_<

Oh great, ANOTHER cousin!? Lol, I kid. Seriously though, I have a ton of cousins on my mothers side. Mormons multiply like rabbits. Anyways, I'm not even sure where my family lived at the time. I *think* they joined up after the pioneers had set out. I could certainly be wrong.NEDM said:Hey, that'd make us some sort of very distant cousins lol. Well I meant the Royal line thing, You being a Lancaster, me being a York... sure they fought bitterly, but they had a lot of common ancestors. But honestly, there are some good websites that you can use, and people always seem to find interesting things when they look. Of course, I knew someone that found out he was dating his cousin... that happens too from time to time.PhunkyPhazon said:Oh great, ANOTHER cousin!? Lol, I kid.
