It's not so much that I don't trust it as that I don't feel any loyalty towards it. My friend is an asshole, my country is an asshole and frankly, the person my friend killed is probably an asshole too. Thus given a choice, I would choose my friend since I have a vested interest in keeping them out of jail. Why should I turn them in for the sake of a society which disgusts me and a person I didn't know and probably wouldn't have liked.

I'm not saying that I have the moral high ground over the state. Quite the opposite. I'm saying I'm as bad as both the government and my friend, and I see no reason to pretend otherwise. I also wasn't saying 'x is of no consequence because everyone does it'. What I was getting at is "state sanctioned x or morally acceptable x isn't any better than an individual taking it upon themselves to x, in that they are all equally unacceptable".

Seeing how my best friend is my brother, the answer would be easy. "Let me get my kit, and I'll be right there. Which shoe are you wearing, and where is your second one?" (He is an amputee, easy way to make a crime scene not look like it was him, both shoe prints).
Actually I think the different imprints from the pressure would actually point the finger at him...just thinking out loud :p

Out planet is way overpopulated so I'd probably help my friend. The damage is already done and all that would be left is deciding if my friend would suffer or not. It would depend alot on the situation though, who he killed and why, but unless my friend was just plain insane and a danger to others, I would probably help him.

That being said, If I killed someone I would never bring a friend into it....I mean it's one thing to kill someone (supposedly with good reason in this thread), but it's a whole different story to drag a friend (someone you supposedly care about) into a situation that might land them in jail/prison for a very long time.

I would be more likely NOT to help my friend because he or she tried to drag me into the situation then because they killed someone to be honest.

Huh... well I wouldn't turn my friend in. My only best friends are extremely precious to me so I could never turn them in but I'd definitely tell them to just keep their mouth shut and keep me out of it.

If anything I'd try to convince them to turn themselves in as running only makes it worse and they'll find you one way or another.

Obviously, specifics matter! But no matter what happened, I'm gonna help dispose of the body. Chances are, that'd be what she came to me for lol. But we're best friends for a reason, chances are she was right to kill this person and I would probably agree.

I am surprised at the amount of people who would just turn in their friend. Do you people not like your friends?!?

Hey, specifics ARE neccesary. If he/she killed my family member or someone I deeply care about, then I am calling the cops.
If it's someone I don't know/care about, then I'll try to help him/her. I won't lie to officers of the law (kinda weird to use this term to my countries inner security), but I will avoid direct answers as much as possible.

Yeah...there are some fucked up people posting here it seems. You are also guilty of a crime if you help that person.

I would say whatever it would take to get away, and call the police immediately. Tell them where the body is, or where my friend decided to hide it.

And if I get banned for saying people who would help cover up a murder, no question, are fucked up, then I would lose all respect for the Escapist and gladly leave. The reason doesn't matter. It was not self-defense. I don't care if they were a child molester bragging about molesting your best friend's child right to their face, once they murder someone, they are effectively, in the eyes of the law, worse than him/her. And deserve any punishment they get from that moment on. I am not going to risk my life and my future just because my best friend is a murderer who asked for my help.

So you would be totally cool being around a friend who has proven themselves mentally unstable and ready to snap at any moment, and not shown enough remorse for their actions to turn themselves in?

Okay, have fun going to jail being an accomplice to murder.

i pity the fool who would trust a human enough to call them friend. i'd never find myself in such a situation as i'm not a sucker. anyone who does find themselves in this situation should have seen it coming. this is what humans do, after all. primates.

Like someone pointed out earlier, the specifics matter more than the general issue here. Was it a person who had wronged my friend deeply? By that I don't mean "He slept with my girlfriend" or any of that nonsense, I'm talking about stuff like raping their children or something. Because if it was anything like that, I'd propably help my friend kill the guy :/ On the other hand if it was something trivial like the above mentioned "slept with girlfriend", I'd call the cops.

I mean no disrespect when I say this: I think YOU'RE the fucked up one. I respect that you stick to set principles but I gotta be honest with, murdering a child molester does not make you worse, morally speaking. Yes, your sentence would be higher but, in the long run, they're a better person.

I mean, what if this guy admitted, with a smile, right to your face, that he had raped your child. Would you really just calmly tell him he's a bad person? And, also, this friend came to you because he/she had nowhere to go and they see you as a shining light in their darkest hour. And you turn out to be really mean! lol

Like I said, I mean no disrespect. I just disagree with you.

Some wouldn't see morality as that black and white just because the system dictates it as such.

Actually, one cool thing about this guy's statement is that he's pretty much Judge Dredd now.

I would consider the situation as a whole, with all its aspects, ties, possible outcomes and then choose the course of action that would yield most benefit to me.

The only correct first reaction is *Shall I put the kettle on?*, then come the details, because as mentioned, they bloody well are important and then if all is clear, we move on to other matters as there are a lot more variables then just the fact that some poor shmuck bit the dust. Should things not go well ... hope there is pig farm nearby.

Depends who they killed, either tell the police (if I liked them) or walk away, don't tell the cops and tell them to bleach everything (if I don't know them or hate them). Do not go anywhere near them, the body or the crime scene.

Ask them where, at what time, if there were any witnesses, and if they remembered to set down tarps first.

Or we could do a Weekend at Bernie's thing, whatever works. We could probably take the carpool lane on the way to the pig farm.

I'd calmly reassure him that everything will be okay and then promptly turn him in to the police as soon as I was away from him. I have plenty of really close friends, one less is not going to affect me too much.
