I had a map that was pretty unremarkable. There's literally only one tile on the surface I broke on the entire map. You'd think I hadn't started playing yet. Underground however, I used glass to make something like a greenhouse under every piece of water, most of them with a ring of lava for illumination.

That's what I liked most. You see nothing of the entire construction, unless you're in the water and look down.

Getting trees and plants to grow down there is somewhat problematic though. Especially trees just refuse to grow.
Have you tried using Bonemeal to get your trees to grow?

Well i haven't been playing long but here 2 projects which done/ongoing;

The first one is from my first server (i host my own), and i was a tad tipsy when i did it so it's not completely symetrical.. a watercooled computer (the desk isn't complete so ignore the wood on the floor).

And then my castle with a giant quarry off to the right.

I love the second map. Do you have a download link for it?

Er i don't but i can always upload it for you, you would need to install the buildcraft mod but otherwise it's fine from standard, i'll get you a link in a min.

Yes, and that works, but the whole point was making an underground environment in which things grow just like on the surface, but apparently that doesn't work, even with only one block of water between the sky and my glass ceiling, and plenty of light around it.
How high is the ceiling of the room? I read somewhere that trees normally from if there's a about 6 block of free vertical space?

My map is unremarkable.

It is a little fort. Built out of practicality, not visually. It is still my pride and joy. I am always expanding it with new rooms. Just installed a garbage disposal.

If u want pics here they are

I built the Colossus of Rhodes. I was only a third of the size of the real one because I hit the top of the world. I was able to make it mostly out of dirt (it was actually made of bronze) so resources were plentiful. I think once in creative I made the 7 ancient wonders of the world.

I would say either my failsafe, its a bunker underneth my home that if someone choose to play i am badass and tried to invade, he would trigger The TNT i had tatically placed around my house, destrying it, causing a mountain of sand to fall on him. While i was safe in my obsidian bunker(it was the strongest material i could find)waiting with my diamond pick,if he came for seconds, i had my portal to hell ready with power rail system to another potal linked to a differnt location, with a boat ready to take me away.
I got kicked off the server when it happened to the guy. >_> left one hell of a mess 2.

I'm trying to build a plain old two story brick house but clay seems ridiculously hard to come by. I therefore created a train line to take me a long long way to give me a new area to explore for clay. It leads from the site of the house to the edge of an ocean where I decided to make a dock of sorts. I'm also gonna need to make a lot more maps.

Probably my current project, creating a hollow glass sphere of 60 block diameter, placed at the bottom of an ocean, and within that sphere I'm creating an entire biome. Trees, rivers, mob spawners. It's taking a while.

It's hard to say, I've built everything from a massive Eva unit 01, to a giant Pikmin, to a Dr. Manhattan so big it goes from the very bedrock to the top of the world (complete with shrine and monastery). But I think the one I like the best might be my Big Octo, from Zelda: The Windwaker

I made a tower.... Well that doesn't sound too impressive does it?

Here let me go get a screenshot

Dang it still not impressive enough

Still lacking!!!

Took me about a month of digging and building to make this thing, only thing I used INVEDIT for was the glass and tools. Everything else was excavated by hand.

it goes a bit further in all directions, and underground too.

I built a hollow yin-yang out of glass. 64 units high, half filled with water, the other half with lava.
