In my first house, when I was very small, there was a disgusting, dark brown, really velvety and thick set of curtains on the front window. I remember playing hide and seek and hiding behind them for ages, it was strange and pitch black behind there (even in daylight), musty and stifling, I should never have done it.

Ever since, whenever I have a nightmare, I don't have a nightmare about those curtains, but they are like a prelude, or welcome mat to a nightmare. So I have a dream where I'm in that house, and I could be anywhere in the house (because dreams have no laws of physics) and I'll see those heavy curtains billow out and wrap me up tightly into darkness and some conscious part of me will know that I'm about to have a nightmare - one that's probably completely unrelated to what's just occurred.

Does anyone else have this sort of ESRB warning letting them know they're about to have a nightmare?

what i fear is not my dreams i welcome each and everyone of them as an all too rare experience (also i'm pretty sure that i see the future in my dreams but cant prove it so what ever...)
no, what scares me is that i almost never dream...sometimes, when i get into the right mood to ponder such things it makes me wonder if i have a soul...
i know melodramatic and all but if you met me you might end up wondering the same thing...

When I was 15 or so, I always had this recurring dream of me (bear-handed) fighting Sephiroth, ending with me dying in many ways.

i used to have this dreadfull recurring dream where something or someone was chasing me trough various places of my childhood (school, park, backyard) and when i got inside any kind of building it would get dark (silent hill mode) and no lights would work, i always managed to find a gun but it was absolutelly useless (did not fire/had no amo) so i was left with the only option of running

untill one day i was running and thought "fuck this, i dont even know what is chasing me, i´m going to face wathever it is"

turns out it was megatron... but painted all in black with red eyes.

yeah... no idea were he came from

but i told him "WHAT!? WHAT DO YOU WANT!?!?, YOU WANT TO KILL ME!!?? GO AHEAD!!! IF NOT STOP FOLLOWING ME AROUND!!!!"

then he turned around and left... never had that dream again, but i still have recurring dreams where the lights wont work in a house and everything is damn dark (i blame Silent Hill)

That makes two of us.

OT: When I was little (about4-7), I had a recurring nightmare that my family was leaving me. They usually ended with me ramming head first into the wall as I tried to chase them.

More recently, I'll dream that I'm lying on a cloud and about to fall asleep (yeah, weird meta-dream) when the cloud suddenly dissipates and I fall.

I used to have a recurring nightmare about a huge bullheaded monster chasing me through a series of non-descript hallways.

Well my nightmares never have a certain person trying to ruin in me, it's always me or nature. So I guess I am my own Boogie man.

Death except death is in a completely white suit and hat and resembles the mysterious stranger in fallout3.He appears in my dreams and nightmares sometimes and kills everything by making them nothing. As in the world goes completely whtie,it scares the shit out of me.

I've only ever had one recurring dream, and it only happened 3 times I think, when I was in 3rd grade. But, each time after the first, I remembered it happening before (while still in the dream), but, it always happened the exact same way.
In my dream, I had a stuffed monkey that I apparently always took to bed (never actually had one in real life), but, this night (in my dream) it got stuck behind the TV in the living room and I couldn't get it out in time so I had to go to bed without it.
Laying in my bed I heard something creak by my door, I sat up and saw a tiny purplish-brown creature with big eyes. Instantly in my dream I realize that this creature has been disguised as my stuffed monkey all along, and that it has finally come to get me!
Like any kid, I hid under the covers and started trying to scream, but, I couldn't. I couldn't make my breath exhale fast or hard enough to create a scream. I looked out to see where the creature was and it was crawling over the foot of my bed. I hid again and kept trying to scream, but, to no avail. I looked again, and the creature was standing on my chest reaching for me!
I felt my whole body shudder with fear, only to awake drenched in sweat.

Since I was about 4, my boogeyman has always been Gollum. Specifically, the voice of Gollum from the animated Hobbit movie. (shudder)

Goblin/Basking sharks, what's worse is I'm a parasomniac, so after nightmares I hallucinate for a while on waking, still see whatever it was that was in my nightmare.

Yeah, I'm starting to love prescription hypnotics, keeps this kind of sh*t in check.
