Reccetear. It is so relaxing! Tending to my shop, hanging out with my friends or crawling through dungeons filled with chibi monsters and happy-go-lucky music.
Yeah, that one works for me too. Capitalism, ho!

My main game for jsut releasing stress would have to be Yosumin. I have played that for almost 150 hours which is impressive on its own.

Another is Brain Plus which is on my phone. You just solve math questions ranging from 3+7 to 13x17 or similar in difficulty. 5 points per correct question my record is 30000! You also lose time when answer incorrectly.

Oddly enough, Bayonetta on the hardest difficulty (Infinite Climax). It's pretty much the hardest thing ever but I dunno, it just calms me for some reason. I just get into this rhythm. And I never get upset if I die.

I'm a weird person...

Also, Just Cause 2. Cruising around Panau with the parachute/grappling hook combo is very... soothing.

Umvc3 . Nothing better after a hard days work than a couple of matches of marvel . While i'm not the best player , i can hold my own . I'm realy digging my team canada colors low tier team . Tron / Virgil / Rocket racoon . When there is no synergy , you make synergy dammit ! All three in red and white . And a couple of tricky step ups and a decent neutral game . Nothing is more satisfying than taking out high tier teams .

Protip : Rocket racoon > morrigan . He can hide underground for 3 seconds avoiding all incoming fireballs ( at that point the game turns into a touhou game ).

Space Channel 5 or Bulletstorm
Or if I'm feeling particularly zen I'll play Forbidden Forest on suicidal.

I either pull up Minecraft, Katawa Shoujo, or Corruption of Champions(don't judge me).

Minecraft I just play on creative so I sit back and build awesome shit while listening to the calming music

Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel and COC is a text-based... eroge, so there is really no stress in playing those games.

Civ or city builders. Love playing them and couple play them for days, weeks on end. I get to the point where I'm frustrated with other games and just pick up Emperor or Pharoah or Civ or something and play all weekend or longer. Currently waiting for Banished [http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/] and that'll be my relaxing game. Also when Folk Tale comes out of Alpha as well.

I knew my answer was going to be Minecraft before I clicked on this thread. Then I read through all your responses and was surprised it wasn't mentioned more often.

You take a block here, you put a block there. Some blocks you take for yourself so you can craft things or squirrel them away in a chest like a lunatic only to be used months down the line. And the world is literally your oyster.

I found a great little free downloadable game called Boson X, I just try to get a highscore on the first level because the last two levels are far from relaxing, but I do recommend downloading it.
Off topic: Is Skullgirls a good buy? I've only played SF4 with friends with a PS3 controller, and I'm pretty horrible at combos (I'm an oldschool button smasher) EDIT: I deleted the quote because I can't seem to get it to work properly on this tablet.
Do you get Squigly along with the PS3 version of Skullgirls or are you going to just buy it on Steam? Do PS3 controllers work with PC anyway? The PS3 hardware is a little odd to say the least. I play the PC version with a 360 controller, it's a bit jarring to have to use the right trigger and bumper for attacks but you get used to it quickly. I'm not quite sure how easy it is to play a fighting game with a keyboard but it can be done.

If you can get friends to play with you go ahead, everyone has ridiculous setups and combos online so I would get good at one character first before jumping into that mess. The game is really well made and charming, even if the story is a bit barebones the characters make up for it in spades.

*sigh* My Filia, I had to drop her. The one balanced character has no place in a cast where they're all broken in different ways... She is the one you should learn the game with though, she's easy to pick up.

I picked Peacock to spite all those guys who have swag combos. Yeah see if you can combo me from THE OTHER END OF THE SCREEN! HA! She also has the best level 3 in the game. The pure style that oozes out of that cinematic is amazing.

[sub][sub]God whose idea was it to give a keepaway character 4 teleports as well as godlike keepaway tools?[/sub][/sub]

Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise got me through at least one rather taxing afternoon.

Though it's not a game to recommend if you're easily frustrated, considering that there's a gap between requirements for a Pinata appearing and actually visiting your garden; and even then there's a chance they won't visit when they appear and you've fulfilled all the requirements. They'll just wander about the boundary of your garden.

Mocking you.

Anyway, it's great.

Probably Dynasty Warriors. Just being able to hang out and mindlessly kill thousand of peons relaxes me in some way (huh...). There really is no thought process needed except "see that blinking red dot? Go kill it. Kill it now". Plus with the recent games and their masses of characters and level ups it can be an eternity before I finally get 100% completion.

and then he said some things
I have little hope of ever playing Skullgirls online, but I certainly think it's great.

I crank up the Sinatra/Joabim, Aphex Twin, Jazzanova and Jamiroquai while I play Minecraft to soothe myself. Or just get fucking metal and play Doom or Bulletstorm and relive the old ultra-violence. Or when I feel like fighting crime, I just go with Arkham City and fire up the combat riddler challenges.

Good times.

Same here. Musou games are relaxing in the fact i do not have to worry about too much strategy, combos, or do a bunch of thinking. You, a million peons, and a map. go to town.

The Skinner Box to end all Skinner Boxes
That is fantastic

I tend to play stuff like LEGO games, Kingdom/World of Keflings, or Bejeweled on never ending mode.

Uh...

I guess Dead Rising 2 is the closest thing I have ever had to a real "chill out" game... and even then I am not quite sure if it fits..

I am always playing games to complete goals and face challenges of increasingly difficulty. If I want to "Chill out" I just go to random forums in the internet to talk about my favorite games and videogames in general, and also to see the other people reactings and the trolls and the mods and the like.

Like right now.

EDIT: Oh yeah Skyrim as well, THAT was actually a overall calm game when it wasnt glitching like mad (And even THOSE moments were hilarious).

A session of Skyrim after a hard day is the ultimate "chill" mode.

Vast expanses; calm atmosphere; exploration and adventure... a refreshing change from the way many games nowadays shove set-piece noise factories in your face.

Doesn't get much better than that.
