There's probably been a topic like this before, but I couldn't find it in 20 pages of topics so I decided to make a new one.

Although classes are nonexistent in Skyrim and all your skills can be raised to 100 eventually, a lot of the power is in picking the perks. So what skills will you focus on, and which race will you choose?

In my first playthrough I will be a Breton (mainly for the magic resistance). My main skills will be Destruction, Illusion, Restoration, Enchantment, One-Handed, Light Armour and Smithing.
I'll probably play these skills as a battlemage, with a sword in one hand and a fireball in the other. (Frost magic is likely to be less useful in Skyrim because of all the ice-based enemies) And I'll make my own weapons and armour then enchant them because I liked enchantment in Oblivion (casting Soul Trap is a chore, though).

Female argonian (maybe Kahjit, dunno) that'll specialize in dual swords and bow. Making somewhat of a combat rogue, particularly if someone remakes the grenade mod from oblivion. <3

Edit: I'll also try and specialize in illusion and charisma skills. Surely I don't always need to go for the kill when I can simply talk my way past.

Possibly a Dark Elf with bow and longsword? Or maybe Orc Berserker, at least in this one the characters look half decent.

I'm either resurrecting my Nord sniper from my last Oblivion playthrough (Helga Bloodbane, the world's tallest thief/assassin FTW)

or

Making a Khajiit or Argonian; I really like the look of the new skins for them, even if the Argonians are a bit creepy.

My Nord character really worked for me; they were an expert in both swords and archery and used stealth to get in close undetected before starting a bloodbath, but I also used Restoration regularly too.

As for an Argonian/Khajiit, I've considered using a stealthy magic-user, with a dagger in one hand and invisibility stuff in the other.

Hmm, my first playthrough will probably be with an bosmer with a stealth/combat mix, so sneak, security, archery, light armor(unarmored?), maybe some alchemy and illusion mixed in there.

Thats been my basic setup for previous elder scrolls games and it has served me well.

Sticking to my Elder Scrolls tradition, I'll be a redguard. Now, I forgot what're the skills in Skyrim, but nevermind that. A heavy warrior type, with a sword and shield. Restoration and alteration included.

Either a Dunmer or Nord, and either a Swashbuckler type of class or just straight up 2h dps warrior. Of course Dunmer for the former choice and Nord for the latter. But I haven't decided yet, it probably depends on which race's character creator I like playing with more.

I'll pick any race and be good at everything, since there's no reason not to be. Let's face it, unless you gimp yourself on purpose you end up as a Spellslinging Sneaky Warrior with maxed Armor, Magic Resist and a ton of fortrified stats in every Elder Scrolls game. Yeah, you can play your Sneaky Archer or whatever for the first few levels and that's cute, but eventually you'll either branch out into other skills as you start to cap off your primary areas of interest or you'll be deliberately ignoring them for roleplaying purposes...

I will gimp myself on purpose. Games like this lose me the moment I become a jack of all trades.

I find it pointless to ignore a chunk of the game's mechanics for no apparent reason. I can try to play, say, a pure mage in Elder Scrolls games, but soon I'll pick up a sword and figure I might as well hit someone between spells. Then I'll strap on some Light Armor, since why the hell not? Then I'll start sneaking through a dungeon because it doesn't cost me anything and might give me an advantage. Before you know it, I'm wearing full Deadric armor, wielding an Infinity +1 Sword I made myself and casting carefully custom crafted spells optimized for the most efficient application of suffering. The game lets me, so I don't see why I shouldn't...

Not sure on the race, it's gonna depend on my current mood when the game comes out, graphics (f.ex. in Morrowind/Oblivion I wouldn't consider a Khajjit in a million years, but I love their new look in Skyrim from the screenshots) and probably most of all, racial bonuses.

As for my class, gonna start out and focus on being a sneaky archer (along with the spells to boost that), but with everything that's changing in Skyrim, I might do a complete 180. Magic for one looks like a hell of a lot of fun and the inclusion of actual assassination moves with the dagger might make me go melee a bit as well.

So yeah, really, it's still very much up in the air. I loved my Dark Elf assassin in Oblivion (latest playthrough) and might well go with it again, but I'll have to see when the game comes out and even then might go for it the way I often do in Bethesda games - do the main quest playthrough with a bit of side stuff and then make a new character with a good idea of what I want to RP as and go explorer on the game's arse.

Im not sure which I wanna run first a Nord or Kahjit. Ive ran Nords in Morrowind and Oblivion and they kicked ass. My Morrowind Nord was supposed to start out as stealthy archer that could wear heavy armor and get into melee with large weapons, but turned into a complete beast of a tank that carried all the power weapons, had the most powerful armor but was also fast and agile. Oblivion I played it more how I had planned, ended up throwing some destruction skills in their to throw fireballs, so I had a Tank that could strike at range with powerful magic and arrows and get in close with shield and sword.

My Skyrim Nord will be Thor Odinson XD, one of the default character models looks just like Chris Hemsworth's Thor. I figure heavy armor, two handed and one handed, and destruction. I can definitively see it after the demonstration vid showed dual wielding Lightning and one of the special shout powers is "Storm Call" which literally lets you summon forth a massive thunderstorm to strike at your enemies. Picture it: A horde of beasts races to strike him down, he raises his mighty hammer and calls to the sky, suddenly the sky turns black as pitch an mother nature's fury is unleashed, what creatures remain are struck down by the lightning flowing from his hands and the might of his hammer. Badass :)

However I for the first time want to play as a Kahjit. I never played them before because they where even less respected than the Nords in Cyrodil and they didnt seem to fit my play style, but I found a character model that I really wanna try. I wanna model my Kahjit after Panthro from the Thundercats (80's) why not Lion-O or Tygra you ask? Because Panthro is the sh- thats why!XD. After seeing the skins I saw a couple that looked almost like him, so with some tweaking i should make him just right. Only Im having trouble pinning down what his skills should be. I was going to try my model in Morrowind since I redownloaded it to my new computer but Im having trouble getting the new graphical overhall mod to work. Lets see i know he's a builder, a scrounger, is super strong(threw the Thundertank around like a tinkertoy) and is very agile for his build. So Armorer(if thats still around) High strength and agility, gotta have mid-high intel, enchant to make super powerful weapons, and since "blacksmith" is a profession of course he'll be the best blacksmith in Skyrim. Weapon skills im not sure of though.

Gosh I wish I knew so it won't take me hours just to figure out my first character, let alone name him/her and give him/her a face.
I just know I'll get alchemy. Yeah. I'll alchemymize0r the crap out of my first playthrough. And light armors and sneaking. But apart from that, nothing is decided. Just loved playing Fallout and Oblivion "Dark Project-style". So that's the plan

Yeah, I understand you. I just enjoy having weaknesses, if that makes sense. And I know I'm going to replay the game a different way, so I don't feel like I'm missing out if I don't mess with swords in favor of archery this time. I get into playing a role as a professional at a particular combat style (or no combat style. I went with a pure social skills character for New Vegas recently). It adds a lot to the experience for me. I understand that's not something everyone will be into.

Imperial rogue...
Jeb Feer, a character I implement in all Elderscrolls games.
He is high in personality at first with a tendency for sneaking and ranged weapons.
Picking locks becomes a hobby but not so many pockets...

But the demo has me aspiring to magic... specifically, calling down storms of lightning.
I played with the idea in Dragon Age where I had myself and the two other mages casting the AOE lightning at the first sign of danger.

I imagine my enemies fearing that the thunder god may be lurking in the shadows. Not to mention casting that big ass lightning storm from the demo.

I want to be an Orc-Mage. I wanted that in Oblivion as well, but never tried. The name will be something like Ag gro'Khan and I'm aiming to be the First Orc Archmage in the history of Cyrodil (or has there already been another?).
Need to be a politican to be that, so I will focus on Speechcraft, Alchemy and Destruction. And if all magic or persuasion fails I just tear the ribcage of my foes open with my bare hands...
