Jim Raynors pistol, it's an antique that he stole during his bandit times, he only pulls it out when necessary, since the old style ammo is rare an expansive in their time and place.

The pistol from "Darkwatch: Curse of the West" (Games too obscure to get a good pic of it)

Obviously has to be this

In all seriousness definitely another vote for Mal's pistol [http://store.qmxonline.com/assets/images/firefly/MalPistol_MP/MalPistol_MP-1.jpg] from Firefly/ Serenity although you can already get full scale replicas so I'm not sure if there's much to be gained from making your own.

Also the Red 9 from Resident Evil 4 is one of my favourite guns ever

And the bladed handgun from FF7; Advent Children (the film) although I could only find one half decent picture:

Actually, yeah...they played it for laughs, but having the monster recoil for a gun that makes quite a mess of its target makes a lot more sense than the way it is usually depicted.

Technically not pistols, but I thought the brute weapons in halo 3 had really awesome designs

Also surprised nobody has mentioned this beauty yet

Okay, here we go...

The most efficient deadly killing machine in Fallout: New Vegas. It's a laser pistol that's been souped up to a degree where it reaches damage levels similar to an alien blaster...but it runs on ordinary energy cell. Two shots a pop before reload, and most targets will die in ONE. All you have to do is hold onto a big load of energy cells and you can kill ANYTHING. It repairs using perfectly ordinary laser pistols too, so it's essentially the most broken and unlimited device in the game.

Only thing that outmatches it is maybe the Solar Scorcher from Fallout 2, nigh infinite shots so long as you've got decent lighting.

Deckards gun from Blade Runner is pretty sweet and inspired one of my favourite weapons in Fallout New Vegas, That Gun.
Aw yiss, now THATS what I'm talking about! Definently looking into this one, gona have to run to the store and get that movie... What a gun! Do you have any clue which parts it is made of, or what it is based off of? If I could get a base gun to work from that would be great, although I can already see it will require a lot of uniquely crafted parts to come together. I'm ok with that though, as long as the potential for awesomeness is there!
It's based of this model http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Charter_Arms_Bulldog mixed with parts from a Steyr-Mannlicher Model SL rifle so something similar would be fine, hope you do this it would be awesome :D

If I may slightly abandon thread rule to reference Supernatural's 'The Colt':

And I'd also like to say people saying revolvers don't count will burn in hell along with people who get their knickers in a twist over the difference between clips and magazines. :D

I have to say the 10mm pistol from Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I have never seen a pistol that looked cooler in my eyes - the perfect fusion between a normal pistol and a martial, sci-fi looking front. And the sound it makes! I just love it.

EDIT:

How about the BFG from Doom or the light sword from the Halo series?
Pistols. It's about pistols.

Maeda's gun from Parasite eve. from puny 1 to 9999 damage. What a tricky little biological exploit.

AND I ALMOST THREW THAT THING AWAY! ERRRGH!

Ebony and Ivory, hands down. Not only are they absolutely gorgeous and stylish as hell, every customization they've got serves a valid purpose. More than that, the two guns are customized for two different purposes.

Ivory is all about speed - rounded, low profile combat sights for a faster draw and rapid target acquisition, a rounded trigger guard and a smaller beavertail.

Ebony on the other hand has high profile marksmanship sights, a nub on the trigger guard for an improved two-handed grip, an extended beavertail for stability, and a spur hammer. Everything done for the sake of accuracy. Odd that its the left hand gun, then, right? Actually, no. In the first game, Dante used all of the other guns left-handed (but he used his sword in his right, which I thought was a cool detail). So the accurate gun was in his primary shooting hand. That was changed later.

Both guns have full profile compensators with heavy mounting hardware to reduce recoil, custom weighted magazines, and custom ergonomic grips. And to top it off, Ebony is built from the ground up for left handed use - there aren't many handguns that eject casings to the left, despite what counter-strike would have you believe.

These guns were obviously designed by a gun person, and one who had an eye for aesthetics at that. Custom weapon perfection.

The best.
Just when I thought I couldn't possibly love dmc any more...

OT: besides the ones already shown I'd like to add mary's collection of handguns in devil may cry 3. Not so much for the look, heck I wouldn't even know their real life names, but more for the way they're wielded. You see, unlike ebony & ivory they're not demonically enchanted or whatever to hold infinite ammo. So with most demon encounters requiring far more than just a few magazines to handle, you might be wondering how she approaches that particular issue. Well...
With apologies for the quality, it's a playstation 2 game after all.

Feel free to continue using the wrong terms for things and the rest of us will continue to ignore what you say based upon your willful ignorance of the subject. Deal? Deal.

From New Vegas I personally think A Light Shining in the Darkness is a handsome gun but probably not iconic enough. People who haven't played the game wouldn't recognize it.
Isn't that just an M1911 with some Greek text on it? A lot of people know the M1911. But not as Joshua Graham's gun, yeah.

I'd have to go with Corvo's pistol from Dishonored. A self-loading wheel-lock that shoots exploding whale bullets? Yes.

Nordberg's pistol from the Naked Gun 2 1/2. At first glance it looks like pretty basic model,
but its upgradability is unparalleled!
o_O What the hell? Pistol on crack. I really don't have anything to add that can compare.

What about the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space? I know that it's technically a tool, but it's used as a pistol throughout the franchise. It has an awesome industrial look, it feels weighty and powerful, it has that cool rotation ability and it is oh so satisfying to use.
