Not really ... I certainly wouldn't join the army ...due to the the way I see how an invasion would look. From a rational perspective ... wouldn't it make sense for a nation to have *no* 'uniformed' armed forces? Seriously....
To illustrate my point, lets say you are invaded .... if you have an acknowledged large military force, the enemy will bomb the living shit out of you ....
if your country *pretends* to not have *any* military force (such as just training 50'000 people in secret) then the enemy won't bomb the shit out of you, and attempt to occupy you in order to spare some of the assets and infrastructure that costs money to repair.
So by having these 50 K soldiers undercover, plainly clothed, in regular day jobs the enemy won't suspect, you also have the ability to maneuver these select soldiers and infiltrate enemy assets overseas.
In one fell swoop you could instantly mobilise these soldiers, on multiple fronts, with a complete element of surprise ... simultaneously targetting *many* enemy military assets ... whilst leaving them none the wiser about the attack.
I've never understood why military numbers and personnel are advertised by nations ... from a rational perspective it's far more tactically useful to have your potential enemies have no idea about the formation of your troops, exact numbers, or even who they might be.

But getting back on topic ... no I wouldn't join the army if my nation were invaded ... I'd join a resistance organization ... no way in hell am I wearing uniform.
