im scottish so the telephone
While that's kind of true, and Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland he spent most of his life in Canada, my home. He moved here at the age of twenty-three, meaning he invented the telephone here, not in Scotland.

So I offer you a question. What's your number two choice? We'll say the telephone is a wash and neither country can claim it.

I would have to say our greatest invention is the Blackberry, the mitochondrial mother of the modern smartphone.

Texas made the transistor and the integrated circuit. We are responsible for modern electronics.
Daaaamn straight! We also invented a thing called the "automobile" and we are responsible for all the Oldsmobile and Fords and Chevys
Benz Patent Motorwagen - Germany.

Just saying!

As for Britain, my personal favourite is the all-moving tailplane. See the Americans and the British had an information sharing pact when we were both attempting to break the sound barrier. The American models' controls were locking up at speeds just approching the sound barrier. Turns out the flaps just weren't strong enough to withstand the airflow.

The British had a solution, the all-moving tailplane, where the entire control surface tilted. We let the Americans know, problem solved, and the Bell-X1 went supersonic without killing Chuck Yeager.

Everything was cool, apart for one thing.............the Americans took our design and never offered anything in return. Pact broken!

Norway invented these:

Norwegians also like to believe we invented the paperclip, but that was in fact someone else, can't remember who though. But a Norwegian guy stole the credit. We did invent brown cheese though, a Norwegian delicassy.

Every country has it fair share of smart people, and sometimes, one of these geniuses creates something bloody amazing that everyone loves. So what is your favorite invention by someone in your country?

I'm from Sweden, and my favorites are 1. The fridge, and 2. Spotify.
Don't forget the cheese slicer!! very important. Sweden FTW!

Holy shit! I just discovered, Canada invented peanut butter. Take that George Washington Carver! Hmmm...what else, IMAX, Insulin, Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. The G-Suit that prevents fighter jet pilots from dying. This piece of kick-ass awesome:

The Canadarm (naturally), the Pager, the 56k modem, and time zones.

No, the Blackberry is still the best, I'm sorry.

That one doesn't surprise me, though I think someone needs to tell the Americans.
