18 is fair. There's some talks about raising it to 21 which I find just silly. Although I find it funny I actually drunk more under-aged than legally.

You've got to be 16 to buy alcohol here in Malta :D. But I think the Government plan on changing it to 18 or 19 by the end of next year.
That sucks, my next door neighbour is part-Maltese (He lives with his Maltese Granfather), and his 17 year old brother was looking forward to getting hammered when we go next year :p

Luckily I'll still be ok even if they change it! :D

OT: It's 18. Don't think it'll change, especially not with the war on. Would seem kind of weird you can be sent overseas but can't get hammered if you make it back. At least that's my mates theory on it lol, he's 18, in the army and due to be deployed.

I guess the same beers as the Netherlands. I'd say Google it.

There is one bar in Brussels which serves a ridiculous amount of beers. I think it's near 1500 different beers that they have.

In Holland; 16 for low percentage liquids like beer, and 18 for high alcoholic stuff like vodka.

What's more, here we don't have any law that allows underage drinking under supervision. It's either be old enough or no alcohol for you.

It's 21 in the US. For no good reason. I'm turning 20 soon but 21 is such an arbitrary number.

In Sweden, we have a state monopoly on any alcohol that's > 3.5%, which can be bought at special stores called Systembolaget. So legal drinking age (at pubs and clubs etc) is 18, whereas you have to be 20 to buy alcohol from Systembolaget.
I started at the age of 14, and turned legal for alcohol at 18 (UK).

I'm 19 now and was recently on holiday in Sweden, and all my friends were immediately back in the underage mindset. I remember waiting for our one 20 year old friend to buy us all the booze, it was truly bizarre. Was nice to be able to enjoy the pubs though (unlike in New York... bastards).

You've got to be 16 for beer, wine, etc., and 18 for vodka, whiskey, and so on.

But it sucks since once I hit 18, I'm going to college back in the US.
I don't think you'll have trouble finding alcohol in college.

18, Australia (though as a culture we're pretty relaxed about teenagers starting to socially drink from around 16 under controlled circumstances). It would be absurd to have it higher than 18 - if you can be sent to war, and (more realistically for most) if we're going to demand that you take adult responsibility for crimes, then you've got to give adult autonomy as well.

I'm always amused by the irrationality of those that say 'we have to raise the drinking age / driving age' whilst also saying 'it shouldn't matter that the offender is 16, he should be tried as an adult!'. Can't have it both ways - make up your mind what age people have sufficient capacities to take adult responsibility, and then be consistent about it.

21 in order to buy and drink here in the US. Kinda irrelevant though because it doesn't stop ppl from drinking underage anyway. Also im pretty sure your not allowed to drink in public at all here unless it's in a bar.
