Honestly? This...this thread actually pisses me off a little. I watched the video, and while it isn't a pillar of intellectualism and thought, it doesn't seem that bad. You've got two people who say, "See, my understanding is that this is making our people violent; can we talk about that?"; maybe I'm reading too much into it, but they only seemed to be listening to the guy who was telling them they were wrong. What's more, the detractor seemed to be portrayed as crazy; I very much doubt that was done on accident. All in all, it seems to be in favor of an open-minded mindset, and encouraging actually thinking about what you've been told. And the guy on our side? He seemed to win. He had solid arguments and spent the most time talking; the blond woman's argument was "Games are violent! Violence is bad!" and the third guy didn't even make an argument, he just pointed at her and said, "Uhh, for the purposes of argument, can you prove she's full of shit?" Which he does.

What's more, whoever made the captions for the video is a moron. Would you let your child watch Saving Private Ryan? Would you let your child watch Akira? Would you let your child watch Inglorious Basterds? No, because they're not for children. That doesn't mean that they're bad, just that they can be traumatizing if you aren't prepared for them. What's more, he seems to assume everyone is lying about...well everything, continuously calls people "retarded" and misspells "currupted". No, really, it's right at the beginning. And did you miss the part where he censors the guy? Did you all miss that? A detraction video like this makes people like that blond woman look right. That's not what we want.

So...maybe you all have no priorities. Or I'm completely missing the point; is the stupid person narrating what everyone's pissed off about?

An aside, an aside: I thought the average age for gamers was mid 20's-30's. If it wasn't, why would all these violent games be being made in the first place?

Hehe as for the annotations, it's the best video of it I could find. There was a normal one but it got taken down. I agree they are also annoying at times because he also doesn't know what he's talking about. Even more annoyance eh?

Suprisingly I was taught that the average gamer age was infact 32,33 or 35. Can't quite remember.

Edit: Yes - Average age of 'gamer' is 33 year old male. At least it was last year, it's from a lecture so I assume they've gotten some evidence.

Well, what about the video makes you foam at the mouth? The only gamers I can imagine actually getting angry over someone sucessfully defending video games is someone I would compare to a hyper-feminist or PETA: the sort of person who would be angry that all three people weren't declaring the saintly aspects of games, and that Halo wasn't mentioned.

Well I just finished downloading The Witcher (thanks cheap-ass Steam deals!) but after playing it for like 10 minutes it crashed. That made me rage quite a bit, though silently. And it doesn't seem to be very good either.

Also, that video is the usual anti-game nonsense that we keep hearing for quite some time now. Nothing new to see here, doesn't even slightly bother me nowadays.

Well first and foremost Alan Titchmarsh messes up straight away with the games 'Call of Duty 2' and 'Modern Warfare' and the whole setting just clearly comes across as it being a show for the middle-aged who don't game. It's then stupid comment atfer stupid comment. The woman puts forward a fact which doesn't seem very factual and the defender of games brings out another fact, and is boo'ed by the crowd. Very rage-worthy material.

Yeah, that kind of funny stuff you will keep on hearing till the end of time I guess. But we can't take the time to shoot or beat the crap out of someone when we are to busy playing games now can we?! My father never undrstood why I play violent games while I am a very easy-going peace-loving person in RL. But I think I would or could be a bit more agressive if these things were around, as long as I understand the difference between a game and RL, there is nothing wrong with it.

I also see this in lots of you Escapists out there (tip of the hat ) for being fun loving persons that show that they can be very social and sensible and have a gaming bond on sites like this!!!
